It's time for Golden to post a signature win

It is clear that the 7th is the most important game of the season, until the ACC title game. It is also clear we need to win it for countless reasons not the least of which the picking rights in the talent rich recruiting grounds and the hope to end of SEC dominance. It is also clear you want to hang Golden on the nearest sharpest hook available. I'll grant that winning the game will mean more than can be imagined, losing however is not the end of the world. JJ lost 5 games his first season including the losing end of the greatest comeback ever and the cursed Hail Fluitie with Bernie Kosar at qb and unbelievable talent almost everywhere. The next year he choke against a second class TN team in a game that would have brought us another NC with a guy named Vinny at qb and some all time great Canes on the field. The next year is was the great choke job of all--PSU beats the greatest or second greatest team ever with a Heisman winner at QB and Playmaker at WR. JJ won lots of big games those first could not win a Bowl game to save his life. Three years with NFL 2 first round QBs and more NFL pro bowlers than can be counted including the greatest DTs we have ever had and could not win the big one. Golden has maybe one player who could have played on JJ's first three teams--Duke-- and love him I do but would he have been first team. I certainly doubted JJ after 86 PSU loss and still wonder why he did not win at least 3 NCs. This is Golden's third year and I think he has a chance to win his first NC in the same time as JJ--year 4. When you weight JJ's record by the unbelievable talent and momentum he got from Howard and compare to Golden's and the garbage he was dealt I think you have to just shut up and wait until year 5 or at least 4. And remember we are talking about Hall of Fame HC Jimmy Johnson.

Al has to win the ACC more than he "has" to win this game.
Although I'm picking the Canes to win, if they don't I aint losing any sleep over it. Unless it's like the 2010 FSU game romp.

its an interesting construct to say he has to have a signature win. i don't necessarily disagree. i think we are significantly better as a team and program than we have been in at least 8 years. we have the best returning offense since the Dorsey days. I also feel we have a lot of the right leaders in the locker room. all of this indicates to me that we do indeed need a signature win. however, it is too simplistic to think this way.

what if UM loses to UF and FSU but wins all other games? would it have been a successful regular season?

or what if he beats UF for his "Signature Win" and UF ends up a 7-5 team. Would it still be a signature win?

So forget all this nonsense about getting a signature win. When he beats Clemson or FSU or whoever for the ACC championship game, that will be it. Until then it don't really matter.

UCLA was Butch's first "signature" win and that was in year #4.

But Butch has had 3 times the tougher circumstances than Al Golden. 96-98 was the lowest the program got since the 70's. 1997 team was one of the worst in school history... If we weren't in the big east we might have only won 2 maybe 3 games that season. We could barely field a team in those years with the sanctions.

Look fellas. All I'm saying is that this game (UF) is (to me) the most important game of the season for one reason and one reason only- CONFIDENCE. These kids lose that game and it becomes psychological....they can't play with top-tier teams...then they take lesser opponents lightly...and fck around and lose because that "lesser" team was turned up to play the "U". Then we become labeled as "mediocre"....we go on to drop another game to a scrub and then "get up" for FSU, but lose a squeaker. We end up 8-4....and you will have stupid biches saying sh@t like "brick by brick"...."8-4, Al has these kids getting better and better"... "Next year when Kayaa gets here....". Gag me with a fckg spoon! Rinse and repeat. Fck. That. WIN, Al!!!! You mofos know I'm right, but the mere thought of this makes a real Cane fan lash out and attack a "troll". I get it, but If Al gets out schemed by a one dimensional team, we have a straight bum on our hands folks. Hate to say it, but I saw it with Randy early on..and I see some troubling signs outta Golden as well. I could give a fck about 3 Penny films and good speech, give. Me. Wins.

I think the UF game will be a day that all CANES fans remember as the start of us officially getting back to dominance. This is very important for the players confidence. I really hope we win this game because I'm from Baton Rouge & all of my LSU friends will be watching for the resurrection of the canes. They all talk so much sh*t about Miami because they beat us in the Peach bowl years ago. I just hope we can show them that the mighty SEC can be had.

^^^^ this aspect also increases the odds. It is our destiny to put an end to all this SEC bullsh@t. We are the only program that can consistently feild enough 2 deep/3 deep speed that can knock these teams off. What is Alabama without Cooper? What is LSU without PJ? Jean-Louis? Arkansas without AC? Etc. etc.. My point is that if Miami can win on the feild, these top kids stay home. Then we become stronger. Then we win more. Then we get more top kids. Then we win more. Then we get more top kids. Then our coach leaves for the NFL... This Game is important boys....

Developing an asinine algorithm that gave him "3 times tougher" when comparing circumstances.

Another indicator that this delusional fanbase has no clue as to the disaster the previous coaches left for Golden.

Lol the OP thinks the world revolves around him and Al needs his approval. But yes, he needs signature wins obviously.

Lol @ the world "revolving around me". It's not about me, it's about healthy dissent/ discussion. See, I don't get caught up in the circle jerk that has become the "Golden era". Fck all that. I've been a fan too long... Seen too much. I've heard about how big these kids have gotten in the off season.... Only to watch those same kids get pushed around during the season. I've seen the hyping of freshmen before they step foot on campus....only to see fans call that same kid a JAG less than two seasons later. I could go on and on, but you get my drift. Cane fans get labeled as some of the worst in sports because of our ability to tell the truth about our team, but that's the same thing that makes this fan base special. We are real, and I feel like there's a certain sect that wants to muffle any real discussion about some of the things we are seeing out of this current staff. They are not beyond reproach. Moreover, they are not beyond criticism. That's what being a fan is all about- being fanatical..... But not delusional. We are not Gator fans, nor are we Seminole fans. We don't hide behind fandom and pretend to not see things that are there. Duke disappears in big games. Stephen Morris can't throw an intermediate/short pass to save his life- not to mention his lack of pocket presence. Our OL can't run block for ****. Dionofrio can't scheme his way out of a wet paper bag. My point is that all of the above can be fixed, by either growing some fckg nuts ( telling dionofrio that this is it- get it done or get it packing), and "coaching" up these players... They have talent. They need direction. Perhaps it's the delusion of all fans that if enough of us point out the glaring, obvious shortcomings of this squad, the coaches will see it too and focus intently on those shortcomings and we all will be pleasantly surprised. But reality has bitten us in our collective azzez lately. If we sucked at something last year, odds are, we'll suck at those particular things again. Perhaps it's the delusion of us fans that maybe-just maybe..Al reads these threads and takes our cynicism as some sort of challenge??? One can hope, can't he? But I guess I'm just being a true fan, huh?

Look dude. If we can't beat a weak UF team at home... With a senior QB.... A Sensational RB (both of whom are being haled as Heisman hopefuls)....the biggest, most experienced OL in the country....a solid group of Wrs, etc., then what in the **** makes you think we beat FSU later in the season? Just askin'. Tell you what- we get our asses handed to us by a one-dimensional squad.... You feel confident we "run the table"??? Shiiiiiiiiid, I don't. I'm just being real with the ****.

And of course you mention nothing about our Defense... the worst part on this team... plus a weak *** florida team??? didnt they go 11-2 last year. Stop putting so much pressure on the guy who is building a monster (2 rated recruiting class) and enjoy the ****in ride!!!!!

To be fair if the defense is still bad in year 3 then it falls on Golden. You can only blame Shannon for so long. The fact that we were so bad last year but did not make a single change in the coaching staff on that side of the ball. Hope he made the right call but heads usually roll when a team is as bad defensively as we were.
