Issues with coach Mike Rumph

I just don't get all the Rumph hate. We got some really good DB recruits and because there is a Bandy Band wagon they all jumping on, taking it for granite he's the "absolute" one that got those players to commit. Rumph's job at Heritage was to coach, develop kids and win. He did that without question! The "best" coaches aren't always the most liked. Yet the best players kept showing up at Heritage to play for him. If they don't like him so much that they won't commit to their "favorite school", then I guess going to Miami is less important to them than not being around Rumph. Only one of the guys we want from Heritage would have much interaction with Rumph, that's Marco Wilson. The 2 OLinemen, Slaton, Herbert and LB Houston wouldn't really. Point is, if The U was really, I mean really in their HEARTS, then that's where they would commit. I don't see these kids hatred for Rumph being so intense that they would not play for the school they dreamed of playing for. Instead of bashing a coach so early, consider the kids possible lack of desire to play at the U. Maybe it's less Rumph's ability to recruit his former players and more a fact that they just don't want to play at Miami. Accept that their are some SoFl kids (many we've come realize) who would never play for the U and it has nothing to do with Rumph or any other coach for that matter.

Imo it has to
Do
With how he bad mouthed MIAMI while he was at AH. He imo pushed kids away, and Richt hired him as a thanks for delivering Sony to UGA, while Richt also needing a south Florida recruiting guy.

It ultimately comes down to the fact that people, myself included, wanted a bigger name as CB coach. A guy with a proven D1 track record for coaching kids up. Then we get Rumph and we think well that will help with Burns at heritage and their other playmakers and again we get nothing. They have one of the top OL in the country and we don't seem to be getting a sniff. It's frustrating in the least.

He may turn out to be a top notch coach people just had higher expectations for that hire.

Why the fck would a head college coach hire a high school coach for delivering a player to a school he was just terminated at? That makes no sense. If Brian Burns commits and then Rumph is hired (or vice versa), I might buy the argument, but the logic used in regard to Michel is illogical.

And I hope Richt is smart enough not to hire a position coach based solely on any "ties" to south Florida. Folden had a stable of south Florida recruiters on his last staff and it all went to shlt, both on the field and on the recruiting front.

There is no other way to slice it - even being part of a transition staff, Rumph closed extremely poorly to end the last cycle. To not even be in it for Burns was disappointing. Byrd flipping, while also being at a prospect at a position of dire need is something we are going to feel negatively as early as next year.

I haven't given up on Rumph yet, but given how thin UM is at CB, he needs to prove it on the field as a coach and land some game changers recruiting.

Much of the hate is because Mike Rumph is not perceived as a 'savage'. Miami hired one of the best DL coaches in college football and fans wanted a DB coach of similar reputation. Rumph does not have a resume comparable to Kuligowski. At least he has a deep connection to success at Miami and was a very successful at Heritage.

Did he bad-mouth Miami while coaching at Heritage? Can you blame him for advising young men who played for him there are better options than playing for the disaster known as Al Golden? Would you have recommended Golden's Miami to players? Be honest.

A lot of recruiting analysts were not surprised Byrd flipped to Tennessee after his best friend committed to the Vols. I doubt he will be a loss in the long run.

You're correct, Rumph needs to prove himself, but let's give him more than a month.

I don't perceive most of the criticisms as anywhere near hate level. Sure, he wasn't perceived as a great friend to the program while at Heritage. Sure, I hated the way he went out of his way to praise a sissy that chased his boyfriend to Tennessee. That said, I think almost all of us are withholding judgment on the guy until the season starts and until he has actual time to recruit. Some people are just sensitive to ANY criticism of him because he's local and/or because he's a Cane. Believe me, we ALL want the guy to succeed.

And the hiring of Kool will make Rumph's job sooo much easier. Our secondary is going to look very, very good because our D-line is going to be beastly.

Not from what I've seen from some posters on this site. Posters were scrutinizing rumph over Byrd flipping to Tennessee when that was already in the works... On top of that in his position we picked up a big time commitment from Chris Henderson, Gilbert frierson and are in a great spot with Shawn Davis and Marco Wilson who spoke Highly of Miami from the rivals camp yesterday

People mad because Rumph wasn't sending his kids to UM. Would you honestly send someone you cared about to play under Golden? Why? So he could make them all fat and teach them horrible technique? My jury is out on Rumph as a coach and/or recruiter until he has a little bit of time to show he can or can't do it. However, I don't hold it against him that he wasn't pushing kids towards UM under that dumpster fire of a coaching staff that was here.

Rumph stunk it up with my Redskins. I just hope he's a better coach than player. Think Richt hired him because of his SFL ties and because he couldn't get anyone better at the short time he had to find someone. I doubt he lasts more than one season because I bet he's as clueless as a coach as he was as a player. Also, he isn't much of a recruiter, either. His own players at AH aren't coming here even though Golden is gone.

If that OLine is so dominate maybe we should start throwing rocks at the our OLine coach...
