Issues with coach Mike Rumph

Rumph not being able to get his own player to just visit the campus is an early red flag. It's an undecided 4 star DE at that.

Our tight end and special teams better be on point. Because I honestly never really understood why Larry Scott wasn't brought back.

I wasn't going to make it a big deal. But now that Scott has chumped our staff and stole Byrd right from under our noses I wonder if anyone thinks this might have been a mistake.

People can say whatever about him wanting to play with his brother. This was not an issue for a whole year. But then all of a sudden Scott gets a job at Tennessee and then he wants to play with his brother.

What do people not understand about this :

It's been well documented that Larry Scott was NOT let go. He was offered TE coach here. He chose to go to tennessee on his own.

He didn't deserve OC over richt obviously so that's the best opening we had. He could have stayed

If Larry Scott stays, Byrd still leaves. He pretty much said Fils was the reason. Said ya, Scott was a bonus.

While I felt it would be best for Scott's own development as a coach that he leave UM, I also felt he would be a thorn in UM's side on the recruiting trails.

Why is Byrd 20 years old? Did it take him that long to get through HS? His academic life will be a piece of cake at UT. What DB's have they ever put in the league? I think he made a mistake. Could see it if he bolted for Bama or OSU...but UT? Bad part is the disrespect he's shown for UM coaches with his 'announcement & his buddy laughing in the background'. UM is better off without him.

If our CBs play a whole lot better this season I think we will all be happy. I will take a good coach over a good recruiter any day.

Obviously all of u people crying about following your highschool coach never played highschool football. Str8 crybabies.

I know guys do not want to hear about it. But for these kids instead of seeing Miami dominate, these kids have only seen year after year of broken promises from this program. Let alone all they see on ESPN is SEC SEC SEC blah blah blah. I think its much like Michigan, it will take a year to build up the relationships, and a successful year to truly begin to undo the presumptions of the program.

So because you never had a college coaching job, you're not coming in to coach. I guess playing at the U and in the NFL doesn't give you anything to pass on to the youngster. The retardation in some statements is at epic levels. Just stop while you can.

Wow, short honeymoon, even for Miami. I question why all Mike's players went elsewhere, but we have to give him at least a year. Personally, it is on the field I am most concerned with. We passed on greatest Miami recruiter ever in Butch, so Mark's staff, Rumph included, need to kill in on the field to make up for that. More picks and big plays on D. More scoring from the D. More pain delivered from the D. That is what we have been missing. That will hopefully fix the recruiting.

Someone please enlighten me on this guy.
1. kept his top players from playing at the U.
2. Gets the job as CB coach (probably Richt paying favors from sending his top players to Georgia)
3. Cannot get his players to even visit Miami (Burns)
4. Cannot even get one recruit onboard.
5. loses our best recruit (Byrd)
6. following 141 people on twitter mostly family, friends and former UM players.
7. first Interview in WQAM says he wants to be more involve in coaching since as a head coach he was more involve in the administrative side, talking to parents etc..
this guys comes across as lazy (point # 7), he should be following the top CBs in the country (freshmen - seniors..all of them...following 141 people on twitter!!!) need to build relationships. Did he even try to a build a relationship with Tyler Byrd?
This guys should be on an 8 month probation...need to prove himself as a good coach (highly doubt it) and he should get us the best players from American Heritage next year. He does not get anyone by October/November need to make a move... So far, this guys is leaving more questions than answers.

Caught some s*** earlier for jumping the gun on Rumph criticism, which I admittedly deserved because it was a kneejerk reaction in a transition year to our inability to draw any interest from Brian Burns, Miller staying at Pitt, and concern about Byrd flipping. But there are no excuses for 2017. Rumph needs to land 3-4 premier CBs next year when their potential competition for playing time will consist of...

Mayes
Redwine
Jackson
Henley
Young

That's it. That's all we'll have at CB once Elder heads to the NFL after next season. The new staff inherited that mess because of Golden's abysmal CB recruiting in the previous two cycles, and they didn't help the situation by failing to hang onto Byrd. But with the first-year recruiting bump combined with the alarming state of our current CB situation, we need to land several stud corners next year or else.

That's some scary **** right there.

23 Days, first time coaching in college..
The Bartender guy got a commit who dreamed of playing at UM and would have ended up here if paul williams was coaching the secondary. In addition, the bartender guy, -who you will at least have the respect to address as Coach Banda or at least his nickname Panda-, has been an assistant of some sort in college for 3+ years before taking this job.
