The NCAA was a cloud but it had no affect on our on field production..

How anyone can think that having players suspended( you know ACTUALLY MISSING GAMES), having bowl bans, threat of death penalty looming doesn't affect ON FIELD RESULTS is unimaginable and just plain dumb.

On top of all that, Golden was dealing with an as ***ed up roster with 2 duds at QB, no depth, no real high caliber talent except for 2-3 players and I'm being generous here, AND HE STILL HAS A BETTER OVER ALL RECORD than SHANNON during the same time span.
And save the coastal being better during Shannon's era and that Pata's murder or ST's murder was a cloud. That's straight up BS right there. Only cloud was SHannon himself.

Are you kidding dude. Do you not realize how badly ESPN was trying to make us look with all the shooting related incidents, especially with the FIU incident passing. I think you're forgetting how bad we looked after the FIU crap. I still remember reading recruiting stuff at the time with lots of speculation that recruits parents didn't want them going to Miami because it was not safe. To say it's as bad as the cloud is is exaggeration imo, but to say that those incidents had no effect is denial.

As far as the coastal thing, no wonder you by into Al being such a great savior for turning around Temple against MAC level opponents. SOS doesn't matter at all so we might as well just become the gates and play a bunch of Ga Southerns, because all that matters is we win right? Please. GT finished ranked twice while Shannon was here and have only one season with 8 wins since Golden has been here. VT never had a season worse than 10 wins when Shannon was here, but they just had their worst season since 1997 and first time with less than 10 wins since 2003 and we still got smoked. UNC was a 8-5 team nearly every year Shannon was here and were primed to get good (they potentially could have given us a run for first round talent in a small window with that team if not for the NCAA stuff). Since then, they are 7-6, 8-4, 7-6. That 2010 season, I truly believe they had the talent to make a title run if not for having to suspend half of their starters. It makes me laugh how fast the NCAA investigates an SEC team (less that 2 weeks for Cam and Manziel, but about 2 years for UNC and 3 for Miami)

We can even go cross division. Golden has not faced Clemson since he has been the coach. Randy faced them twice and even won one in 2010. They weren't elite, but they had some good players. This was around the time when they had CJ Spiller and Dabo was first rebuilding that team.

Saying SOS doesn't matter is like looking at the SEC from the 90's and saying its just as good as the SEC from the late 2000's.

+ 1 for Randy for taking the time to recruit Miami Central High. Oh wait...

+1 for Golden for taking the time to recruit DT's. Oh wait...

/Oh, he recruits them and nobody wants to play for him.

Except the 4 that we signed this year. Don't let pesky facts get in the way of your agenda.

We're relying on Corey King and Earl Moore to carry the load next year at that position next year.

We sign three 3* DT's last year and one 4* and suddenly he's absolved for previously failing to recruit this position?

A big reason our defense has been shredded throughout the Golden era (and why we have huge concerns at the position for next year) is that we've failed to recruit difference makers at DT.

Don't let your agenda of slurping anything Golden get in the way of the harsh reality that failing to recruit (and develop) the position for that matter has been a big reason our defense has struggled.

Golden has faced better FSU teams. Better Duke Teams.
UNC has been about the same. SLightly worse VT and GT teams.
Every other was about the same.

It all evens out. It's really a desperate reach by the Shannon brigade to argue the schedule was harder to justify having a worse conference record.

Golden just signed the best DT class on paper ever and Chicagnego says DT's don't want to play for Golden and has the gall to say others have an agenda.

Yeah makes total sense buddy.

It doesn't even out, he'll he left off nc state when they had Wilson, what about wake when they were better, what about virginia when they were better, and even Boston college when they were better with Matt Ryan. Did you forget about a better ohio st team. What about Oklahoma and tamu and flordia. So strength of schedule is not even close.

So a better fsu and duke team does not even out the strength of schedule. Please don't reach again.

Don't let your agenda of hating on Golden get in the way of understanding that most rational, normal people are waiting to give him a chance to prove himself. Critics will be critics, and facts will be facts. And the fact is he's improved his win total every year. Anything less than a 9 win season and I'm calling for him to be replaced.

Signing Moten and Wyche was a pretty good haul. I'm putting my money on Pierre and either Wyche or Heurtelou to be the starters. We still need drastic improvement at the position, but Moten and Wyche were a **** fine start.

NC State was 5-7and 6-7 with Shannon losing both times LOL/
Texas AM was 7-6 and 4-8.. WOW powehouse team he faced.

You failed to mention KSU twice and ND that Golden teams faced.

Again this is an exercise in futility. Whatever minimal differences there may have been schedule wise doesn't excuse Shannon's worse overall record. He didn't have suspensions to deal with. Wasn't changing schemes, wasn't going through a player learning curve. He basically had every advantage over what Golden had. SHannon had better local recruiting knowledge/contacts... AND THE GUY STILL UNDER PERFORMED compared to Golden.. Deal with it.

lol@ Save a Ho CaneAlmighty swooping in on his ***** stained cape to reply rebuttals to every Al Golden reference in this thread

No reason to be torn, Golden is better. Does that mean golden is the guy to lead Miami back or win big? Not sure.

For those that say Shannon never lost to Duke, well Golden hasn't lost to
uSF. Golden beat Ohio State. Shannon was embarrassed on National tv by getting blown out by GT, while giving up the most rushing yards in Miami history at 472.

Shannon's last 2 classes were a joke.

He signed 3 QB's in 4 years. Shannon didn't have to recruit against ALL the negative scandal press that golden did.
If golden left Miami this year, he leaves it better than he found it.

If you go team by team the teams golden faced are way easier than Shannon. There is no if ands or butts about it. You don't get to say its a wash cause your wrong. The league was better, with better players, and we face tougher out of conference compettion.

Let me ask you this whose fault is it that he changed schemes? Who fault is it players had a learning curve? So no excuses.

Deja Vu. This must be a Miami Nights thread on Canestime.

I'm torn between Radio's first four years, and what Golden's first four years will be. To date, it's looking like they're neck and neck, but I'm giving the win to Radio since he at least had a hint of a defense.

On game day - Randy had the thousand yard stare, and Golden while not staring, seems unable to catch up to the game.

Recruiting is tanking, as these young guys aren't stupid, and can see what's going on. We're losing all the top recruits to other 'winning' programs. How many four stars does Bama have? 12? 14?

Wow a 1 game improvement with a weaker schedule in a 3 year span... Al inherited the 2nd and 3rd all time passer in the school's history... He inherited a record breaking wideout... The only 1k Rb since McGahee... Most of the suspensions was for 1 game stop exaggerating the facts... Most on here didn't like ray Ray anyway and considered OV a bust(flawed perception) and we still had enough talent to do better than 6-6... The cloud didn't have an on-field impact... Who loses games because of a threat?

I don't see why I debate with you because you're not a fan anyway... ST's and Pata's death is BS? Get out of here... We were marred with the unfortunate circumstances of murder and violence... That's a cloud... Not players going on boat rides and taking drinks... And after all that it wasnt a reason for us underachieving then and the "cloud" isn't a reason now... The livelihood of an athlete is more valuable then the speculation of a bowl invite.... That was scenario them compared to now... Haha at your insistent denial... You know good and well VT, GT(both ACC champs and BCS players, who we beat) and UNC was better than they are now... Duke and Wake Forest had better offenses back then as well... The coastal just became watered down...

One would think I would be dealing with intelligent people. Scheme meaning 4-3 to 3-4.

But since u bring it up, maybe golden should have offered his wife to Shannon for his playbook since his seems like ****.

Sorry Nikola Tesla, guess I'm not as bright as you. You're right though -- a guy who's previously been a defensive coordinator should drop his defensive playbook in order to copy his predecessor. Is that how you do your job?
