If the SEC offered, would you want Miami to join?

Miami is a horrible fit in the $EC. They all despise Miami. Every single cawksucking $EC fan hates Miami

I'm surprised more Miami fans don't know the extent of this. Those fans hate/resent UM and its history far more than any other conference. It's a southern conservative hick mindset. Culturally, we'd probably fit well in the PAC12, where fans and refs don't seem to be filled with so much Cane hate. Since that's impossible, the ACC is actually a good fit, especially with FSU in it and the other private schools. Our downfall has been our own doing, not the conference.

Its a yes no question. One of the main reasons they edge us in recruiting is they are in the SEC. Put Miami in the SEC and we don't lose kids with a good staff.

I don't agree. ACC hasn't hurt FSU's recruiting. Hasn't hurt Clemson's. Why isn't the SEC magic helping McElwain recruit at UF? They are sitting on just about every recruiting advantage you can have, yet our current class outranks them in Richt's first year. Richt has a good rep as recruiter. We just need to win some more games and create more of a buzz nationally. Recruiting will improve with that. We haven't been a top destination for quite a while and it takes some momentum to shift that.

The question is hypothetical of course.

Yes, there are long-term contracts.

But ESPN — which is driving these things — is hemorrhaging red ink and it's not likely to get any better with millions of subscribers cutting the cord.

Regardless of what those agreements might say (and who here has seen the fine print), I don't see any way the four-letter network is paying the likes of Wake Forest, Boston College, Pitt and others $20 million per year in this environment for ... a handful of football games, a dozen or so basketball games and a bunch of sports friends and family will be streaming through lheir laptops.

It will be a lot more economically feasible to fold a few of the ACC's top brands into the existing SEC Network infrastructure.
Those pussies up in Gaynesville would block us from joining the SEC, the same way Texas & Oklahoma blocked H-Town from joining the Big XII...

Miami (even hypothetically) ain't leaving the ACC... Our Basketball & Baseball programs are also fairly lucrative for the conference along with Football.

Plus, we shouldn't want to leave anyway, it would make us look incredibly weak if we left before we ever won a Conference Title.

Texas blocked UofH because they think of them as High school and always have going back to the SWC..

That & because they were plotting to snatch Herman from them, from the start...

If Houston would've joined the Big XII, Herman would've gotten a guaranteed salary increase...

Plus, Oklahoma after having just had their asswhooped by them wasn't about to welcome them in the conference, with Herman as their HC either.

They blocked them mainly because of recruiting & because Texas & Oklahoma wasn't having it.

UT will always be the big dog in Texas with A&M a distant second.. Even if houston got in the big 12 UT still would have gotten herman if they wanted him at a higher price.. Houston will never be a major power in college football.. Nothing more than a stepping stone for HCs.. I seriously doubt UT and OU were ever worried

I think Miami in the ACC is the most ideal fit.

Anybody clamoring for Independent status has no idea how college football works or how these programs actually make money.

That's comical considering how bad UT has been. And you're opinion about Houston ever being anything are ironic considering you're posting on a Miami site...I'm sure UF and FSU said the same thing about Miami.

Admittingly losing Herman kills them for now.

The SEC is an unhealthy mix of toxic perpetually insecure fan bases that expect to win at higher levels than is actually possible, and who will cheat and throw outrageous sums of money toward the kind of winning that's just too hard for most of them to do. Someone always has to lose.

Then Miami fits right in the SEC.

Why would the SEC or its fans hate Miami? They haven't been relevant in a long time. It's not like they fear the Canes coming in and winning anything significant. You guys over estimate the value of Miami's football program currently on the college football landscape.

Just stop. No one said they "fear" Miami, but most sure do hate them and if you really think they would want to have to play Miami every year then you're fooling yourself.
Miami is still easily one of the 20 most relevant programs in the country even with their struggles. You can't equate "value" based on wins/losses alone.

You don't see the absurdity of the "everybody fears Miami in every corner of college football?" It's played out dude. So I guess you guys want to be in a friendly conference? Does that satisfy your fragile souls?

Why would we leave the ACC at this point? We roughed it out for nearly a decade when the ACC was crap in football. They are now a very solid football conference with a manageable path to the playoffs. Also, still the best basketball and baseball conferences and unquestionably the best academic conference (outside the Ivy League). Leave all this for what reason exactly? So we can start rivalries with schools like Arkansas and Ole Miss? no thanks.

Based on our last decade and a half, it's fair to say that the SEC would love to have the opportunity to beat up on us every year. We are irrelevant. Hopefully this changes.

not gonna happen, ESPN has too much invested in both SEC and ACC, they'd be shooting themselves in the foot. Besides academically we are superior to almost every SEC squad

If push comes to shove, I see schools like Miami, FSU, VT, GT and Clemson banding together with Texas, OU, Okie State, and a couple of other Big XII schools to form a conference, and go from there. Tobacco Road would be the ones left in the cold.

If the college football playoff stays at 4 teams I definitely envision something like this happening. I imagine it will be reorganized into 4 power conferences with 16 teams each. ACC and Big XII dissolve and the football powers from each create a new conference. The teams left out would get absorbed into the SEC or B1G. Or maybe just the Big XII will dissolve and the teams will absorbed into the other conferences. Possibly something like this: 15110353_10209222224846144_4226436448117495433_o.webp
