I feel bad for Al and the players

Dear Shalala, give me a 50K seater in tropical park. They already have bleachers, it wouldn't be hard to do. Please, it's all I ask

You have 300-400 million you can contribute?

It wouldn't take that much to retro-fit the Marlins stadium.

Root for those ******** to lose every game, scrimmage, and organized competition. Eventually ownership will pack up and leave...there are other cities that would die for a MLB team.

I don't like the idea of losing a professional team. Other cities that have done it regretted their loss sorely years later. Look at LA and their football situation. However, this is a trade I might be willing to make

It wouldn't cost that much to retrofit it into a really horible football venue with a small capacity.

It would cost a lot to make it into a football stadium. I don't understand the infatuation with that site. The OB is long gone. It doesn't matter that it used to be there. It isn't any more.

Having caught red-eye flights on Friday nights to fly in from the West Coast for the Florida and Georgia Tech games this year, I find this thread more than a little irritating. People do what they can do. If we're not in Florida, we watch or listen to every game, our UM gear needs its own closet and we pay for banners over the stadium.

I will say that I haven't been able to walk through one airport yet in my orange and green without getting stopped by at least one Canes fan who is as rabid as I am about the possibilities for this team. And we are so **** grateful for Al Golden, it's almost funny.

We may be few, but we are one **** of a group. Go Canes!

because finding an appropriate site for any stadium is very very difficult. Much easier to use the space of an existing venue

And I have zero problem with that. I'd take that scenario over the current one 1 million times over. The stadium would be much closer to campus and the lower capacity would be a GOOD thing. Tougher ticket and a much more passionate setting.

ANYTHING to get out of that garbage stadium.

Been going to games for 30 years and yesterday was by far one of the worst student turn outs I have ever seen! It really blew me away how empty that section was! At one point I thought maybe all the bus drivers were on strike and the students were stuck on campus. And to make it worse, it was friggen homecoming. Sorry students, epic fail.

1) we don't have a lot of students
2) we don't have a lot of students who really care about college football
3) we ask our students to go a long ways to get to and back from the game (it truly is the worst venue in college sports imo)

Completely agree with you 100%. But that said, it was still one of the worst student showing I've ever seen

It isn't the stadium.....its the in-home experience.

There are tons of pro teams having trouble getting butts in the seats (in more than just football too). Miami isn't some small college town. For stuff like this, we fall into the same categories as the pros, unlike Bama, UF, FSU, and tons of other BIG schools in SMALL towns (yes, I don't consider Birmingham or Tally to be big cities).

Is it embarrassing? Of course. But I don't know how you solve it. And I don't think its a money issue, or a facilities issue. You can fix up the stadium all you want AND cut the ticket/parking prices in half.....I still think a large percentage of people are going to prefer to gather in air conditioning, with their food/drinks of choice, and watch the games with friends on their large high definition TVs.

I've read the future of stadiums for pro teams in metro areas is smaller, more intimate settings with luxury accommodations. Maybe we need to start planning for that as well.

WHAT????? these are major metropolitan cities...center of international business and trade

The student section looked horrendous on tv, worst I've seen ever. However, this is going on at all stadiums across the country. Someone link the pic of the USC game at kickoff and late in the first quarter. I'm quite certain the AD probably had an ulcer.

Yes, we need our own cozy 50k seat stadium with some luxury seats. That'd be nice, I hope it is at least on Blake James radar.

Yes, our international students are great for The U, but are bad for The U in things that dont matter, like football attendance.

I've got news for everyone, the situation is not good for the owners of the 100K+ stadiums, even Alabama has put a few student sections on notice for leaving early or not showing up. The sports world is quietly freaking out about empty stadiums. AD's and Presidents are quietly freaking out about the students not "caring" about their football programs. They've done the math, the baby boomers are eventually not going to be buying tickets in large quanities and there is literally nobody on the waiting list anymore or the waiting lists are dwindling. Student surveys about the situation are vague at best, but my own intuition on the young guys I work with probably have to do with HD tv, partying, and texting/facebooking/instagraming/tweeting ad nauseum.

Now on our own situation, that stadium is absolutely abysmal. I dont know if Miami fans are WOAT, because there are factors into fan behavior. I've lived on both coasts and in San Diego, LA, and Miami, the attitude is eerily similar. For sports events people show up late, leave early and for the most part, the vast majority of people in the area just dont care about sports. Bars in the stadium sound like a good idea for the money makers, but they have one very bad affect: Its easy to leave your seat for the whole game and get a better view munching on your nachos and kicking back your beer in a more comfortable seat. Put bars in any stadium and I guarantee that any scorching hot game, people will leave their seats and go to the bar. At that point, what the **** did you buy a ticket for? But I digress.

We cant do anything about the students. That stadium is about an hour from the stadium and if every school across the country is having a hard time dealing with kids who cant text and take pics inside the stadium so they leave and go back to the tailgate/party, I dont know what we can do? They already moved them to the hottest part of the stadium (I know, thats where my tickets were for two years) so what to do? I knew that move was going to backfire as I've had to seek shelter a couple of times. So, what to do...No easy answers.

The amount of fans at yesterday's game was ridiculous. This "Operation Sellout" was a complete failure, with employees taking tickets knowing they weren't going to use them. From the posts I was reading I expected 65 or 70k there against Wake. We had maybe 35k there to support the #7 team in the country. I know the stadium sucks, but jeez... the excuses for there's things to do in Miami is getting old. These guys work there ****s off each and every week and they deserve more than this. At least they'll get to experience an actual crowd against F$U and Famous **** Saturday Night. It'll be closer than most think.

**** out of here with this soft bull****. We're never gonna be the program with the most attendance, it's not what we're about.

Miami was built on the backs of men who don't need validation from some clapping fanboys, not sissies who need fans to powder their bottoms and tell them they're special.

This is football, not a ******* group hug. Soft ************.

I know A LOT of people that regularly turn down FREE tickets to games.

The reality is that people have different preferences. As you get older, the heat, long lines, drive/traffic, crowds, **** food/beer......well, they just detract from the experience of going to games. Some people prefer to not be there. Doesn't mean they aren't fans. Doesn't mean they don't care. Just means they enjoy the game in a different way. And, unfortunately, I don't see what can be done to entice them so that they go to the stadium more often.

To be honest, its happened to me with Dolphin games. At this point, not only would I not go with free tickets, you'd pretty much have to pay me to go. Yet I still watch every week (because I'm a *********).

Honestly, watching on TV, I was pretty **** satisfied with the crowd. I've seen it 10 times worse over the past few seasons.

You know what? I don't think the stadium is great but then I don't come to see the stadium. I come from 4 hours away with 3 of our kids every game to see the team we Love. If we played in the middle of the street in Overtown I would still be there.

you nukkas need to STOP PONTIFICATING ABOUT OUR "WORST" FANBASE WHO "DOESN'T GO TO THE GAMES".

**** got old years ago. if you still get upset by it, you just enjoy giving yourself heartburn and making the rest of us suffer through your menstrual *****ing. everybody has gone over this a thousand times. it's not an "excuse" that we exist in a city with lots of immigrants who come from places without a football culture. IT'S A FACT. if you don't like it, MOVE TO NEBRASKA AND ENJOY BEING PART OF A BIG GROUP, because when it comes down to it, that's what you want.

I. who are you even ******* blaming? who are these "fans" that you're blaming for not coming to the game? THE ACTUAL PEOPLE WHO FOLLOW THE TEAM AND PROGRAM AND CONSIDER THEMSELVES FANS ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE OTHER MILLIONS WHO HAPPEN TO LIVE IN THE CITY WHO HAVE OTHER PRIORITIES IN LIFE. those "civilians" are not reading your internet menstrual *****ing. get it? they AINT LISTENIN to you. and if you're blaming miami for having a lot of people who dont care about college football, then you're more retarded than danny.

II. let's list the biggest cities in america, and see what THEIR college football teams draw in terms of attendance:

1. NYC. lol if you can even FIND a ******* college football team here
2. LA. USC gets 80k and UCLA gets 68k because EIGHTEEN MILLION PEOPLE have no pro football teams
3. chicago. northwestern: 35k
4. dallas: lol
5. houston. uhouston: 27k
6. philly: temple gets 26k
7. DC: lol
8. miami: we get 48k
9. atlanta: GT gets 44k
10. boston: BC gets 37k
11. SF: see NYC, closest would be stanford at 43k
12. riverside: lol
13. detroit: lol
14. phoenix: see NYC
15. seattle: UW gets 58k

so out of I-A colleges in the top 15 largest metropolitan areas in the US, only USC, UCLA, and UW beat miami in attendance. UW and UCLA has 3 times our undergrads. UW and USC have on campus stadiums. LA has no NFL team. LA's immigrant population (mostly mexicans) is a lot more assimilated than miami's (from all kinds of ******* banana republics), and of course seattle doesnt even have this problem.

but all yall nukkas knew this **** already. you just like to *****, at these imaginary "bad fans" that don't show up, instead of growing the **** up and accepting what it means to be a university of miami fan. we're frankly LUCKY with how ****ed up sun life is and how far it is and how small the UM student body is, that we get almost 50k tickets sold per game. if it werent for the vviggers who loved our success in the 80s and come out to party in the noon sun, we would have WAY worse attendance. i bet if you did a census of the crowds at all I-A football games, miami's would be near the top at RATIO OF NON-ALUMNI TO ALUMNI.

so in fact, our vvigger fans are GREAT. i ****** love our fans. the rest of you bleeding vaginas can eat a ****.

Great ****** post

Almost all you internet posters were not even there... Shut up and show up.

We did...it was a good game. I would have preferred a blow out, but I take the win.

Probably 55 k +

Espn is reporting 66k.

Lol!!!! There were 25 k um employees dressed as Orange seats for Halloween. It was pretty ugly on TV. Sorry I couldn't be there due to child care issues.

God our fans suck....first they don't go, then we **** on our board about them not going constantly. I'm not sure who's worse the media or our own fans....for ****s sake, our 55k fans that were there yesterday fill up Stanford's stadium. STOP ACTING LIKE WE ARE A LARGE PUBLIC SCHOOL.

And Oregons stadium and Kansas St. stadium and so on and so on...
