How talented is this team really?

mccord is an undersized dl who was converted to lb. aqm is not strong enough. deon is not healthy. I am sorry but i dont think chick is as talented as the rest.

Tez McCray, Antonio Dixon, Dwayne Hendricks, Joe Joseph, Lugman Abdullah, Josh Holmes, Chaz Washington, Chris Perry, Marcus Forston, Jeremy Lewis, Curtis Porter, Luther Robinson, Tavadis Glenn, Darius Smith, Olsen Pierre, Corey King, Jacoby Briscoe, Dequan Ivery, Micanor Regis. These are the defensive tackles brought in since Butch left. Not one all-star among this bunch. If McCray was 3 inches taller, he would have been a force. A total 10+ year epic fail of talent evaluation and coaching.

Andrew Bain, Cyrim Wimbs, Jon Rochford, Derrick Morse, Tyrone Byrd, Tyler McMeans, Chris Ruteledge, Jon St. Pierre, Chris Barney, Matt Pipho, AJ Trump, Reggie Youngblood, Joel Figueroa, Orlando Franklin, Ian Symonette, Harland Gunn, Tyler Horn, Ben Jones, Brandon Washington, Malcome Bunche, Jared Wheeler, Jermaine Johnson, Jermaine Barton, Brandon Linder, Jon Feliciano, Shane McDermott, Seantrel Henderson, Taylor Gadbois, Danny Isidora, Ereck Flowers, Alex Gall, Sunny Odogwu, Hunter Knighton. These are the o-line we have brought in since Butch left. A few good ones among the bunch, but the success rate is awful. Again, epic 10+year fail. Poor coaching and talent evaluation.

We need a master talent evaluator, as well as a position coach that knows what he is doing. Look what North Carolina did while Butch was there. Multiple 1st round picks on defense, and the offensive line. Until we can get Dline and Oline help, we are in for another 10+ years of mediocrity. Skill players grow on trees around south florida, and we have never had a problem finding good ones. But we all know football is won in the trenches.

There are huge talent deficiencies on this team, but the coaches need to do a better job coaching what they have.

I think were more talented than we look right now. And, unless you're literally in midst of implementing a new system, that is the one metric every coach should be measured by:

Is the whole greater than the sum of its parts?
Yes --> good coaching.
No --> Is it a new system?
Yes --> Give time.
No? Deficiency - are there extenuating circumstances?
Yes --> What the **** are they?
No --> Address coaching decisions.

I keep having this argument with friends. We overrated our talent. Look at the defense for example and how many difference makers do you see?

Many of our guys were not highly recruited and for good reason. We have nowhere near the level of talent we should have at Miami. It's going to take time boys.

When he was hired everyone praised him ad nauseum for being able to develop talent. "If he can win with Temple players then he certainly can with Miami players". 3 years in and now the excuse is that we have no talent. What happened to him being such a great developer of talent? Good coaches make the most out of whatever talent they have to work with.

You don't think having this current team at 7-2 is impressive considering the defense doesn't have a first day NFL draft pick on that unit presently?

Our best WR statically is Allen Hurns who is considered a day-2 at best (obviously could change when teams see him work out)

Not when you look at our wins and how we won some of those games. We'd be struggling to be bowl eligible if we played the schedule of most top 25 teams.

name em

Obviously that is where you are wrong, we got blown out because we didn't have the talent to stop their QB, simple as that. He had a great game it happens.
Talented enough to win the coastal and 10 games with a soft schedule.. Talented enough to not get raped by VT worst offense ever at home with them having 8 turnovers against Duke and BC

It's amazing how talent shines in certain schemes & under certain tutelage.
DP, Deon, Chickillo, Gunter, Howard, Jenkins, AQM, McCord

^ That alone is enough to hold VT under 300 yards of total offense
Can you even imagine some of that talent in the hands of a real DC.

lol @ McCord playing less than 1/4 of the game. Disgrace.

obvious it's not enough when DP, Deon and Jenkins all missed tackles on the same play. And later Deon whiffs on a tackle that goes for a TD.

DP is the defense version of Morris outside of a few highlight hits he disappears for long stretches at a time. Letting WRs run across his face unimpeded was hard to watch Not saying that the scheme is perfect but there isn't a single guy outside of T. Howard who is dominating.

I don't have any agendas. I hope as a fan, that Coaching and Player execution improve.

We are not that talented in the trenches and that's where games are won and lost. I would rate our front four on D about a 3 out of 10. Our offensive line on paper is a 7 out of 10 but they play soft so I give them a 3 out of 10 as well. We get manhandled by physical teams on both sides of the line. It's been a common theme for a while now.

you do realize he was fired for the way he got those guys and his career as a CFB is probably over... but go ahead crown him

This offense is crippled by poor QB play...absolutely crippled. You can't throw over the middle with any consistency and there is no pressure on the linebackers to cover. It's a domino effect on our entire system and destroys any consistency.

I do crown butch...,that guy can evaluate talent....say what you want about the shady recruiting tactics or whatever, but nobody finds more 2 and 3 star first rounders....nobody.

We have enough talent to not let the 100th ranked offense in the country curbstomp us at home with a championship game on the line.

But not enough to withstand 3 straight turnovers in your own territory leading to 21 points

Another way to look at things: How many of our players would start for FSU?
Duke probably. Perryman and Howard maybe. Flowers and Linder maybe.
So out of 22 starters, we'd have only 1 to 5.

Well, they were at the 45 and 48 of the ore team...so two weren't in our territory. Not sure why those are automatic TDs.

Take Linder and Perryman off that list. Flowers would definitely make the 2 deep and challenge for a job. Duke would start and Possibly Tracy.
I would say Duke is a lock. Tracy is a near Lock. Flowers would challenge. Linder and Perryman would be competing for 2nd string.

We are right about where we belong. The 23rd best team in the country. Simple as that. When we have a second year starter in Olsen or Kaaya and big time seniors all over the field like duke, Tracy, deon and rayshawn..that is when we should expect to play in bcs bowls.

We are not the 23rd best team in the country. We just have a ****** schedule.

It was a 8-9 win team coming into the season. Appears they will exceed my expectations. Overall, the team has some talent, but it has very bench strength. Another recruiting class of 30 stud kids will help!

This is not a coordinator debate so please leave that to the other 50 threads. I just looked over the roster and I am not sure that we have one player that will be drafted in the first two days of the draft. Henderson is probably it and that is questionable as a guy who doesn't start and has been suspended numerous times. Has there ever been a good team without one draft elgible player going in the first 3 rounds? I am talking about power conferences only. It's truly amazing that 3,4 and 5 years ago we didn't sign anyone that is still on the team that is an nfl talent.
