How Does Golden Move Forward?

Big time college football has so many variables and dynamics at work its laughable that people try to point to singular issues to explain their points.

This program under Coker and Shannon was on such a ridiculous decline in so many different ways it should almost be criminal what they did. Add to that the NCAA mess and u have what we've witnessed over the last decade plus. This program has a lot of unique dynamics to deal with that take the right people to understand and navigate through. Some people are so **** naive to not realize what a cluster**** this place has been, and what it will take to get us back to consistent national prominence.

I've lost faith in Golden but haven't given up on him. This year will say a lot about the direction its going under his leadership. Time to win.

What has occurred over the past decade has me bearing on how this team performs on Saturdays under this hc. It has been shown through out cfb history that a team can suck for years, a new coach comes in and wins.

The condition of the program inherited by Golden is greatly exaggerated by message board folk. Though not ideal or perfect Golden inherited better talent than almost all his opponents on the schedule in 2011. A decent coach could have managed but Golden has proven to be nothing but a below avg coach. That's the real issue here.

Even with a talent advantage Golden has lost games at a **** poor rate. You can look at nfl draft, players making nfl teams , all confernce players etc and see this has been an issue with Golden through out his hc coaching career. There's no reason to think that saturating this team with talent will change anything with this staff.

Sure, there are peaks and valleys with regime changes or perceived rebuilds but where are the peaks in Miami's situation ? I haven't seen any on the field examples. Saban in his first year at mich st lost some games but he slap beat a pretty good mich team with way more talent. Jim Jarbaugh did the samething at Stanford when he beat USC.....numerous others examples that occur on a yearly basis.

In short, Golden isnt the answer. He isn't going to do anything this year to prove himself and will end up getting fired due to the fact that he is a below avg coach......at this point it looks like he's worse than Shannon. That's not an easy thing to do but when you consider quality wins and on the field performance Golden actually looks worse.

What a ridiculous statement, based on what exactly, I get it, you don't like Golden, but you have no idea the quality of players on those other teams.

Well put.

The bolded statement is absolutely ridiculous. Like I said, if u don't realize in how many areas the entire football program had declined and fallen so far behind in the times from everything like nutrition and facilities to marketing and program access then your just being naive. Not to mention the recruiting shortcomings for years under coker and shannon and the incredible roster imbalance. These things take multiple years to overcome. You sit here and use examples of coaches (2 incredibly elite coaches mind you) who came into situations and were successful early on, but these situations outside of a coaching change are not comparable at all to what this program had to go thru.

The University of Miami is unique in almost every way, to sit here and try to use other situations to make your point without pointing out any of the variables involved is just wrong. Understand that I am in no way trying to explain away all the issues with this current team. Simply trying to show some perspective on how far the program had fallen. I find it laughable how easily people dismiss all the issues we've had to deal with.

You bring up some very valid concerns, and ones that I share. In the end my loyalty is to the program itself and not any one coach. I want the coach to succeed bcuz I want the program to succeed. Last season would've ended very differently had Duke not gotten hurt (he is easily our best player). This upcoming season is the make or break it year for Golden. I love how u've already declared this upcoming season a failure and we haven't even had spring practice yet lol.

Thanks for backing up my point. Nutrition? How much do you, a message board poster, know about what these teams eat and did t eat? Was it any different in 2001? What did they eat? What did the 2002 team eat? I wonder what Duke football is eating these days? Must be better than what Miami is doing.

Imbalanced recruiting classes? Lmao.

Anyways, none of this has nothing to with the main reason why Miami lost games goldens first year. Coaching.
My comment was mainly directed at players. Golden had good enough players for a better showing but his own coaching was a hinderance
The other popular excuses made famouse by message boards like nutrition and imbalanced recruiting classes have very little value to my point.

A player making an NFL roster gives you an idea of what kinda player they are or what quality of players a given team has. Other things like all confernce players, nfl draft also are an indicator. I'm willing to bet Miami had more players make Nfl rosters than a lot of teams they played in 2011.

He moves forward by claiming 2014 is "really, my FIRST season".

He moves forward because until the fans do a USF 2010 boycott, he is coach for life.

He moves forward because the administration is pleased with a losing football program.

Notice, not even Pedo State wanted ANYTHING to do with him.

Lol are you either a sports nutritionist or a football coach? I am a football coach (defensive line) and if you're willing to hang your hat soley on this than you're very wrong. Even the most relentless Al Golden hater on this site will admit there significantly less talent on this team when he took it over than now. So yes the above bold statement is in fact ridiculous. As for coaching... Th actual teaching isn't where it needs to be. I'm not in agreement with the defensive scheme either. I understand why he wants to run the 3-4 & 50's because the 50 is a solid defense against spread offense teams. Unfortunately you have to have very good OLB'ers & Armbrister & Cornelius ain't cutting the mustard! How do I know? Because we run the same defense at my school. If you want discuss this scheme I'll be more than happy to.

Comgrats on being a coach I'm sure several kids look up to you and you serve your community well. I've played the game at a high enough level to be able watch and make my own judgements. If the board agrees fine fine, if not..that's fine too.

Golden inherited better talent than a lot of teams on the 2011 schedule including Atleast 3 he lost to.

Golden has shown through out this career as a hc that even with a talent advantage he will lose games at a signifigant rate. He did that in 2011. He did it at temple. The trend will continue. I don't see any signs of it letting up.
