How Does Golden Move Forward?

You wanna know what I think?
Everything I see w this staff says we are fcked.
But I still hope I'm wrong.

Not gonna give money till I'm wrong.
Not gonna call names to anyone who disagrees w me. Your opinion.

We real fans want the same thing. We only disagree on whether we are headed that direction

Let's Go Canes

It's beyond clear that Ohnofrio is in well over his head, beyond clear. At least to everyone but his best bud.

Then, isn't Golden also over his head?

Butch wasn't. I saw the technically not lying phrase earlier. Ive also seen, from sAme crowd recently, that Butch lied to us so fck him
Let's assume neither or both lied. Who would you rather have as coach right now?

If people are going to spend five pages comparing Shannon's W-L record to Golden's, why wouldn't we be allowed to use W-L record to show an upward trend?

Some people routinely do really stupid things, does that mean that you're going to follow suit and do really stupid things too?

Come on now.

In three seasons Golden's beaten only one FBS school that finished with a record better than 7-6, that was GA Tech and that was in his inaugural season.

You're right, he went 6-6 to 7-5 to 9-4, but he also inherited a team that finished 7-6, a half-game better, and that also went 9-4 the year prior. Shannon's prior season was also 7-6, so if you're comparing Shannon's last three seasons to Golden's first three, Shannon went 23-16 and Golden went 22-15.

I don't see much of an improvement, particularly since Shannon's team beat the 10-4 Hokies and 8-5 Wake in '08, 11-3 GA Tech and 8-5 OU, along with 8-5 Central and South Florida in '09, 8-5 Pitt and NC and 9-4 Maryland in '10.

That's 7 wins of which Golden only has one of in the same number of seasons. I have no idea how anyone can classify that as an improvement, much less a significant one.

Golden appears to be yes, but again, if he ditches D'Onofrio then I'll give him another season of the benefit of the doubt given what he's been thru. But if he's not even willing to make the glaringly obvious moves, then the only two logical conclusions are that A), he is in fact in over his head, or B), he's so committed to his buddies at the expense of the program and frankly, his job and what he should be doing, namely axing the parts of the machine that aren't getting it done, that he's useless as a result. In fact, worse than useless since he'd know the right thing to do yet doesn't do it.

As I've said, how he handles D'Onofrio IMO will determine his future. Apparently he's already decided however. The Shapiro debacle's going to seem like chump change if recruits properly pick up on the fact that he talks one thing and walks another. They'll go to FSU, UF, and other schools before playing for a coach like that. JMO I wouldn't play for him right now if he's not even committed to making the tough changes at the top. Why should anyone? I would have little respect for anyone taking it up the wazoo like that.

This is no longer a program that players want to play for regardless. In fact, it's quickly beoming a program like Wake or Duke.

It's simply win the coastal or gtfo. Just like most of y'all. If he does this, he buys himself another year. He better win the ACC that year.

That's ridiculous. FSU's a powerhouse, perhaps the best FSU team altogether all the way around, and from what I understand, will be returning a good number of starters including Jameis.

I'd just like to see us not go in and lay down like a cheap ho. Just make it competitive and show that you belong. But we're so far from that right now that it won't happen, especially not if D'Onofrio is retained.

It is pointless to compare records between Shannon and Golden. They tell only a little of the story.

Shannon inherited a program on the way down and hastened the collapse. He left the program in the condition of a dumpster fire.

Golden at least is fixing that part of it. We're in much better shape as a program now than when Golden took over. What I mean by that is, if a coach that everyone agrees is quality took over at UM, he would have less to rebuild taking over now than if he had taken over when Golden did. We're at least recovering there and Golden did that through the NCAA mess. That gets credit from me.

That said, we have not the off field improvement translate onto the field. Golden made the decision to keep his DC, despite unforgivable defensive performances. Heck of a bet to make. I hope he and we don't regret that decision, . . . but I have no confidence that we won't.

Headed in the right direction? ZERO improvement over three years.

9 is greater than 7 which is greater than 6

Firm **** is better than diarrhea.

And if you think this year's team was actually better than last year's, then you're one the super smart guys on here. Last year's team would have whipped this year's team in the Rustled Bowl.

Right...because numbers lie and your hypothetical situation is fact. The defense stinks but the team overall has definitely gotten better.

Yep. And Larry Coker was better than Butch Davis because he improved the team according to your criteria for "better".

He can move forward by demoting himself to a lesser role and allowing a better hc coach take over the program.

Seriously, the only real way Golden can move forward as a hc is by firing his entire staff and replacing them with much better people. In most cases this would mean hiring guys who are better than him. Golden just isn't good or dynamic enough to win here trying to carve his own niche.

Big time college football has so many variables and dynamics at work its laughable that people try to point to singular issues to explain their points.

This program under Coker and Shannon was on such a ridiculous decline in so many different ways it should almost be criminal what they did. Add to that the NCAA mess and u have what we've witnessed over the last decade plus. This program has a lot of unique dynamics to deal with that take the right people to understand and navigate through. Some people are so **** naive to not realize what a cluster**** this place has been, and what it will take to get us back to consistent national prominence.

I've lost faith in Golden but haven't given up on him. This year will say a lot about the direction its going under his leadership. Time to win.

What has occurred over the past decade has me bearing on how this team performs on Saturdays under this hc. It has been shown through out cfb history that a team can suck for years, a new coach comes in and wins.

The condition of the program inherited by Golden is greatly exaggerated by message board folk. Though not ideal or perfect Golden inherited better talent than almost all his opponents on the schedule in 2011. A decent coach could have managed but Golden has proven to be nothing but a below avg coach. That's the real issue here.

Even with a talent advantage Golden has lost games at a **** poor rate. You can look at nfl draft, players making nfl teams , all confernce players etc and see this has been an issue with Golden through out his hc coaching career. There's no reason to think that saturating this team with talent will change anything with this staff.

Sure, there are peaks and valleys with regime changes or perceived rebuilds but where are the peaks in Miami's situation ? I haven't seen any on the field examples. Saban in his first year at mich st lost some games but he slap beat a pretty good mich team with way more talent. Jim Jarbaugh did the samething at Stanford when he beat USC.....numerous others examples that occur on a yearly basis.

In short, Golden isnt the answer. He isn't going to do anything this year to prove himself and will end up getting fired due to the fact that he is a below avg coach......at this point it looks like he's worse than Shannon. That's not an easy thing to do but when you consider quality wins and on the field performance Golden actually looks worse.
