How Does Golden Move Forward?

We are talking about a coach who wanted to desert The U. What's to stop him next time?

Keeping him on is pointless. How can anyone on the team, the U admin, etc have any faith in him. You can't.

Golden moves forward one foot in front of the other and one step at a time. It's not hard to support Golden, the team or the staff, they are all good people trying to do a tough job. If you can't see that and support them, then why waste your time on this board or as a UM fan.

He doesn't move forward without a major change in the defense. That could be just the players playing better, could be being forced to get rid of Mark D'Nofrio, whatever else. The defense is embarrassing.

I do think they become more aggressive, because the talent is getting alot better.

I've been asking myself that a lot lately.

I don't have to support your coach, in order to support this program. I have seen em come, and go. The ones who though the grass was greener, and the ones who were fired.

And yet, how many people around here were clamoring for Butch (deserted us once before)? Petrino (deserted his team mid-season)? Or any other coach (who would have to desert his team to take the job here)?

Corching is a tough biz. So is fandom. Bearded clams need not apply.

Seriously. Losing Powell really did it for me, just gotta put in perspective and remember we love this school and program. Our frustration is natural but we can't lose site of the fact that through thick and thin we should support the coaches who are trying to win here and the players who are giving it their all (most of the time...). Not worth getting angry and stressing over lol.

You wanna know what I think?
Everything I see w this staff says we are fcked.
But I still hope I'm wrong.

Not gonna give money till I'm wrong.
Not gonna call names to anyone who disagrees w me. Your opinion.

We real fans want the same thing. We only disagree on whether we are headed that direction

Let's Go Canes

he did not lie because he never said he was not leaving. he was technically honest.

i have no doubt that he would have left if he received an offer, but no offer equals no job.

i do not blame him for trying to leave. it would have doubled his salary and he would be going home. he is loyal to himself and to his family and then to his job. that's the way it should be. most of us would have done the same.

time to move forward. he has 2 years to get things right here. he's heading in the right direction, perhaps more slowly than most of would like.

next up? recruiting. move on!

Headed in the right direction? ZERO improvement over three years.

9 is greater than 7 which is greater than 6

Firm **** is better than diarrhea.

And if you think this year's team was actually better than last year's, then you're one the super smart guys on here. Last year's team would have whipped this year's team in the Rustled Bowl.

Golden is going to have the last laugh.

He's making millions off UM. He'll fail here, but he's a smart enough guy to learn from the experience. The jump from Temple to UM was too large, and his background (UVA, BC, etc.) hadn't prepared him properly for UM either. He's failed here because he wasn't equipped to adapt to this level of competition. But I expect that three or four years from now, when he's at some other school, he'll be one **** of a coach.

LOL, hardly, not if he continues to drag his incompetent buddies with him. He could be a helluva coach right here if he hired a decent DC. The problems on O were explicable, particularly after Duke went down, at least largely, but the D is beyond blatant at this point.

If he's too stupid to help himself he'll never succeed anywhere, at least not at this level. You may be right if he goes to Akron or some $hitty school in some minor conference, like Temple, but otherwise, IMO if he can't get past the Ohnofrio issue he'll never succeed at this level. This issue is mind-numbing easy to correct.

Right...because numbers lie and your hypothetical situation is fact. The defense stinks but the team overall has definitely gotten better.

Failure at THE U is not the road to another HC and a real school. He has shown to be stubborn, narrow minded, and married to his BFF. Those are not attributes for new jobs. If he wins big here then he will be a HC a major school, if not here has killed his career as HC. Al needs to show something on the field justify his attitude. He needs to beat FSU and win ACC. Otherwise, the only the his has proven is that he did okay with a ncaa investigation. He might get a job at another school that is in trouble and needs someone to take the crap for it.

Moving forward, Al must reverse the bleeding on defense AND beat FSU. To protect his BFF, Al has stepped out on the ledge and will be pushed off if he fails. Hopefully, his statement the NO CHANGES were needed was based solely on the fact that he was still hoping to get the PSU job and now he is going to sweep the trash out of staff. I don't care that he lied, I care that his defense stinks and he is blind to it.

I fully concur.

"definitely" not. They had 2 extra wins because instead of playing 12-1 Notre Dame and 11-2 KSU, they played 4-8 UF and 2-10 USF. If they had played a schedule similar to last year's, they would have been 7-5 again.

Ohnofrio is clearly an idiot that doesn't know what he's doing and should be a coordinator at an FCS school tops.

For that reason and that reason alone, after three seasons with the same dam issue, it's very easy not to believe a/o support Golden.

The onus is not on fans and boosters to show loyalty to Golden, the onus is now on Golden to make the blatantly obvious decisions that jibe with his rhetoric, if he can't do that then it necessarily makes him either a liar or simply disingenuous, or both. That's hardly the mark of a leader or someone that anyone wants to follow, except losers, much less someone that deserves anyone's support.

He works for The U, we don't work for him.

As a Bills fan on hiatus, I'm sick and tired of Friends & Family hiring, I really am. If you want to build a solid program, either in the NFL or at a top notch college, then you have to have the wherewithal to do and the heart and integrity to do what's best for the program! The second that you start treating the program as a jobs program for you and your buds, it's over.

If he fires Ohnofrio soon then I'm sure this will all blow over, but you simply cannot preach some sort of jersey system to the players giving them different colored jerseys and calling them out for how well they play while completely ignoring the patently blatant among your own coaches. We're not that stupid, nor are the players.

It's beyond clear that Ohnofrio is in well over his head, beyond clear. At least to everyone but his best bud.
