Heisman Race

Typically if there was a Power 5 QB that his Heisman worthy they'd get the bump over any G5 candidate. Cam checks all those boxes but its early I think if he continues this pace and we keep winning then he'll get the nod in the end.

An undefeated season, includes a win in the ACCCG over Clemson, a ranking no lower than #2 IMO, and 1st round CFBP bye.

In that case, if Cam or Gabriel keep doing what they're doing, either one will get it regardless of what Jeanty does. Right now Cam's odds are hurt because of the soft schedule and the closeness of the last two games. But he has a chance to pull away with statement wins against Louisville, FSU, and Duke and then showing out in the ACCCG

Since 2000, only three RBs have won it (Henry, Ingram, Bush) but they all came from the #1 team at the time. Bush and Henry had two of the best years for a RB in recent memory. Ingram had weak competition (Gerhart, McCoy).

The closest a non power conference got to the Heisman in that span was LT (4th, TCU) and Rashaad Penny (5th, SDSU)

Jeanty has considerable hype right now, but I imagine the heisman part of it dies down as the season goes on. He will need to approach Sander's rushing yards or hope both Ward and Gabriel falter down the stretch to keep his lead.

When is last time a non power 5 school player won the heisman?

Jeanty having a **** of a year stat wise..... but also not playing any good teams.

Try saying this to anyone, they will say you need to be medicated instantly, Oregon is the only good team they've played.

How much do they take into consideration a teams performance and contention in the playoffs?

History says “a lot” when you look at the winners in the playoff-era, but there’s been a few that didn’t make it (Daniels last year, Lamar Jackson in ‘16). Those guys had numbers so good that it was tough to deny them. But regardless, if Boise finished the year as the top-ranked G5 they’re automatically in the playoff, and if you look at their schedule that appears to have a good chance of happening

I think Hunter is the best individual player in CFB and likely the only top 5 lock of any of the candidates at this point. But the Heisman has always factored in and considered who you play for, your role for that team, and how the team is doing. If we continue to win, I think that should push Cam ahead of Jeanty and Hunter. I won't call it hate because I don't think that's fair, but I sense some skepticism among the national media about Cam and the Canes. We win and I think it'll be hard for them to put Jeanty ahead of Cam, unless Jeanty breaks numbers. (I think Hunter is injury prone and Colorado stinks so I think he falls as season progresses.)

ESPN is helping by putting him in TV. GameDay at Cal, FSU (lol) in primetime. Near universal positive coverage.

Not a big year for superstars so they are pushing the ones they think can be great.

Gotta help that his Celly is blowing up too, you have NFL, Hockey other college teams all doing it

This is Jeanty's remaining schedule and their rushing yards allowed per game.

UNLV - 99
SDSU - 167
Nevada - 146
San Jose State - 166
Wyomning - 177
Oregon State - 197

This is who he's played and what they allow.
Hawaii - 139
Jeanty - 236
Hawaii's average against everyone else - 123
Jeanty = +113 yards above average allowed

Utah St - 232
Jeanty - 186 (on 13 carries)
USU adjusted - 241
Jeanty = -55 yards (in a game he averaged 14 ypc)

Washington St - 166
Jeanty - 259
Washington adjusted - 148
Jeanty = +111

Oregon - 108
Jeanty - 192
Oregon adjusted - 91
Jeanty = +101

Jeanty's schedule isn't going to slow him down and it gets easier in each of the final 3 weeks.

If he breaks or gets anywhere close to either of Barry Sanders records, he SHOULD win the Heisman regardless of schedule strength.

Jeanty is having a great season.
If they say he's ahead now, he'll be tough to catch given BSU's schedule.

That being said, Cam's projected 4500 yds/40 tds would be 5,000/50 vs Boise's Schedule
Jeanty is going to suffer from a lack of marquee games, literally one bad game and/or an L will be enough to end his chance. Especially if any of the quarterbacks not named Cam Ward produce multiple heisman moments for a conference champion.

Cam is the leader in the clubhouse for the heisman race right now, every game has been a Heisman level performance even with the couple slip ups sprinkled in there. The media has already admitted that those plays are going to happen with his “gunslinger ” style but won’t detract from his dominance, until it costs us a game. Everyone knows if he takes Miami to 13-0 and produces an offense that rivals 2019 LSU that there will be no reasonable argument to make against him. They are really ****ed about this but know it is the truth.

The media really enjoyed not having to talk about him this week but it’ll be back to reality when he hangs half a hundred on the ‘ville and the whole country is doing his celebration and tweeting/talking about him for 12 straight hours of football coverage on Saturday.

That being said if Jeanty has a historic year and it’s him vs Cam Ward I could see the haters trying to justify the mental gymnastics it would take to snub Ward. Personally, I hope they do cause then he will win us the natty no doubt and we would take ownership of “The Snub” in our lore as the day the U came back.
