The 2019 season for Vandy was supposed to be centered around Darius Garland, and he got injured and was out for the season in the opening minutes of the fifth game of their season. Once he was out, they didn't really have a good PG option and the offense cratered when they played anyone with a pulse.

When they had a healthy Garland, they showed some good signs. They were 4-0 with a win over Liberty (eventual 12 seed who won a game in the NCAA Tournament) and at USC (not a good USC team, but still a road win against a top 100 club).

Obviously you can point to roster construction on not having a good backup for Garland. From the first four games of the season, Drew wanted to play Garland 35-37 minutes a game.

Kick the tires on another coach, because he aint leaving NY.

Mike Repole will pay that man anything to retain him.

Now if you want a solid ******* coach from the Big East, I suggest looking at Shaheen Holloway at Seton Hall. **** good coach, but seems to be loyal to The Hall. He turned down an offer from Louisville to stay, but money talks, and Seton Hall doesn't have the money Miami does for hoops.

This season isn't indicative of his ability to coach and/or identify /develop talent.

His best player, Kadary Richmond (preseason All American, etc.) portalled to to Saint John's to get paid. The Hall couldn't compete with Saint John's in NIL, hence his departure. Nor could he attract top talent from the portal because of it. Money matters.


How about last season?

- Seton Hall got jobbed by the selection committee, only to win the NIT
- He performed well enough to be offered the Louisville HC position.


How about in 2022?

- He coached St. Peter's to the Elite Eight

Truth is Shaheen is extremely loyal to Seton Hall. This goes back to his playing days. He turned down offers from Blue Bloods to play in Newark.

Pretending he isn't a solid choice is laughable. Miami may be able to do better, but he is a really good coach.

Can’t hire a guy with a losing record in the year you’re hiring him. 6-12, 1-6… not good, even though I believe the Big East has been the best league in basketball the past few years.

Miami is not a place you just walk into and get money thrown at you in basketball. It took Jim and Chris years to cultivate financial support for basketball, and the next coach is going to have to put the work in to keep it going. If he couldn’t do it at seton hall I’m not sure there’s any reason to believe he could do it at Miami.

If he took St. Peter's to an Elite Eight, he can absolutely win at Miami.

The Hall got screwed out of an NCAA at-large last season; went on to win the NIT.

Again, Louisville (top 25) just offered him the HC position. That should tell you something about his pedigree.

He turned it down, because of his loyalty to The Hall.

Agree to disagree. That's fine. Just know I'd take him in a NY minute if he's available when Pitino retires.
