Head Coach Candidates

It says a lot about Young and Murray that people at UConn are already talking about one of them being a successor to Hurley.
It's interesting because it's not like Hurley is 70+ years old and I don't know if any health issues he has had.
That is enough proof that they know those guys are good and will be in high demand.
That's more than enough for me to hire one of them at Miami.
There's talk Hurley will move to the NBA eventually. Although he did just turn down 1 job with the Lakers.

At some point, he'll have to ask himself if he's accomplished everything at the college level and if it's time for a new challenge

Another name with a pedigree is Ritchie McCay from Liberty. He's coached at New Mexico and was AHC under Tony Bennett at UVA, so he comes with ACC experience. He's coached Seth Curry as well.

Liberty has mostly won 20 games every year recently (outside of last year) They're also off to a good start this year winning the Paradise Jam (beat KSU).

I am curious how this parallels the people here praising Caputo, but you are closer to it than I am.
Caputo, Fisher or Jay Larranaga are sentimental names for those who want to keep a connection between Canes Hoops and Coach L.
I understand that perspective and I respect it but I am not one of those people.
I merely want the best guy who I think can get the program to a consistent winner that sells out the arena as they compete for conference championships as they make the NCAA tournament.
If you think those guys fit that criteria then I respect your opinion.
In my opinion, if I was making the decision, I would hire either Luke Murray or Kimani Young.

It’s beyond comedy. You have no actual knowledge of Luke’s specific contributions at UCONN and you want him. Luke is a very good very sharp guy who has the potential to be a good head coach someday. He is not in any way, shape, or form the secret to UConn’s success and it is almost preposterous to throw out his name as HC (he hasn’t even been an AHC in his career).

People who actually saw the inner workings of Miami and Caputo’s specific contributions talk about Caputo being an attractive option because of his intelligence, work ethic, and NIL and program building skills (and the program coincidentally collapsed after he left)… and you dismiss it as a connection to Coach L.

I mean I know message boards are supposed to be crazy and irrational, but… still wow.

Initially I was against any Caputo talk. But he deserves a look. Not saying he’s my first choice but he’s gotten his feet wet enough and is very well connected

It's beyond comedy to compare the success of Miami with Caputo on the bench to UCONN with Murray on the bench.
So crazy that I will not discuss it.

I like Ritchie McKay as he is definitely in my Top 3 after Luke Murray and Kimani Young.
The only question with McKay is if he is to leave Liberty for a HC job in the ACC, would he come to Miami or go to Virginia?
Honestly, either school would pay him more than he gets at Liberty so now the question becomes, if you leave, which direction does the moving van go!

I want a coach who will bring this type of offensive philosophy to the team. One who can recruit players to fit this type of offense.
FYI, Broome for Auburn is from Plant City, FL.

Good source.

As I said, Luke is a very smart very good guy. Has a very bright future. He’s a second assistant right now. Not ready for a high major HC job.

On the other hand, Caputo has taken his lumps and learned the painful lessons you have to learn as a first time head coach. And the knowledge of his core skills comes from firsthand observation for the UM admin.

Of course Caputo needs to win to validate the infrastructure and team building that he has been doing on the back end (their program and ad was a mess when he got there but he’s built a nice NIL structure and is getting ad support for the program).

Good win over Dayton today too.

We could do worse than Grant. But we could do better.

Reality is he's bound to be in the conversation. Probably at the expense of someone like Bob Ritchie, Mark Schmidt, Russell Turner or Brian Wardle

Don't see what Anthony Grant has done that's very impressive? His best season ever was the Covid year, so we'll never really know there. Aside from that, he hasn't exactly taken Dayton to some new heights. Nice wins over Uconn and Marq this year, though.

Caputo is on a nice track this season with GW... That's a huge win for them.
