Shady reputation to say the least at Arizona. Another Will Wade. You would say no to Sean Miller?
Yes. Norm Roberts. I'd interview him. Didn't say he's my only (or even top) choice.
Excellent pedigree under Bill Self, well respected, and an outstanding recruiter. He'd be savvy enough to outwork and delegate as needed. Plus the whole Kansas brand recognition would bring credibility.
Did he light it on fire at SJU? Of course not. But he inherited a mess from Jarvis. Not to mention that was over a decade ago. I'm sure he, like anyone else, has gotten better
How would you feel about Sean Miller? Some interesting names on this list
5 potential candidates to replace Jim Larrañaga at Miami in 2025-26
Miami coach Jim Larranaga is stepping down, who are college basketball head coach candidates the Hurricanes could target to replace him in 2025-26?search.app
If Caputo has a good year at GW, we won't be the only big school to come calling. If he flames out we have no business considering him.If Caputo is the best we can get, then this program is in worse trouble than I could’ve have ever imagined. Not saying he’s not worthy, just don’t think he should be our first or second option.
Miami is 2 years removed from back to back Final 4 and Elite 8 runs. Surely, we ought to be able to draw more experienced guys with winning track records.
We’re in the ACC and although it may not carry the same weight it did a few years ago, it’s still one of the top conferences in all of college basketball.
If our administration is serious about basketball, it’s time to put up the money. go get us a whale and leave the minnows for someone else.
GO CANES!!!
Not sure what you and some others are alluding to in regards to poor reputations concerning Wade and now Miller. College coaches have been cheating and bending rules since the beginning of time. All winning programs at one point or another have done it. It’s probably the single biggest reason why NCAA gave in to the NIL. If paying players is the bulk of our concerns in regards to these “shady” coaches then we’re good. Paying players is now fair game.Shady reputation to say the least at Arizona. Another Will Wade.
He's done OK at GW, not an easy program to resurrect. If Caputo has a good year at GW, we won't be the only big school to come calling. If he flames out we have no business considering him.
Like this as an initial potential short list. More often than not my preference is to target an up-and-coming mid-major coach that at least has some experience running a program, rather than either a retread or a sitting assistant coach. (Wade doesn't count as a retread, he wasn't let go by LSU because he failed there). And while I think you have to at least kick the tires to see if there are any sitting Power 5 coaches that are interested, I generally think the ones that would be receptive are the ones looking to escape a situation where things may not be going well, and I'm not interested in those cases.1. Will Wade, McNeese St. - The man is a program changer and a winner. Has won everywhere he's gone and knows how to go from last to first. With NIL now in play, shouldn't be any worries on NCAAA and illegal payments.
2. Ben McCollum, Drake - Hottest name in college basketball right now. Great track record at the D2 level, but super impressive the start he's gotten off to at Drake.
3. Bucky McMillan, Samford - Bucky Ball in Miami wouldn't be such a bad thing. A winning, uptempo style of play in the ACC could do wonders in recruiting. Has turned Samford into one of the top mid-majors in the country.

The one Power 5 coach where maybe there is an outside shot would be Wes Miller at Cincinnati, and that is only if he desperately wants to coach in the ACC. Otherwise I assume he would also be content sticking with Cincy.
Two names I'm at least intrigued by are Russell Turner at UC Irvine and Alan Huss at High Point. Turner is the more known of the two and is contending for Big West championships every year, and he might have his best team yet this season. He's spent the past 25 years on the West Coast, so I don't know if he's waiting for a job out West or if he is willing to come east. But he did work under Dave Odom at Wake Forest in the 90s, so it isn't like he has exclusively coached out west.
Alan Huss is a longer shot than the others because of a limited sample size, but he's piqued my interest. He was at Creighton under Greg McDermott starting in 2017, and that lines up well with when Creighton took a step forward as a program after a couple down years after Doug McDermott left. Then, he took over a High Point program that was in the tank during Tubby Smith's final seasons and the one G.G. Smith season. In his first season there, he won 27 games (the previous program high while in D1 was 23 wins) and is off to a strong start this year. He's probably a year away from being a hotter name, but his team should win the Big South which would get him more exposure nationally.
I'm well aware, it's why I singled him out among all the Power 5 coaches.Played at UNC and grew up in Greensboro, so I'd imagine he'd want to coach in the ACC
Any way to get Mark Few out of Spokane, WA? Spokane isn't known as being such a great area, though it's not too far from more "pretty" areas in ID and MT. Like Gonzaga, Miami is a small private school. According to the internet, his salary is $1.8M, that sounds more than doable. And understood that he's 61 which isn't young. I'd tell him, just be in the Miami area basketball season and the rest of the year enjoy your downtime fly fishing back in WA.
A pipe dream, I get it, no more than seeing about Jay Wright who also quit after getting tired of the grind and start of NIL & portal world.
