Golden's First Press Conference Notes (Long)

He wasn't blaming facilities, he was talking them up and saying how far the program has come in the last year. He was deflecting from talking about FSU, not using that as an excuse to why they won the NC and we didn't.

See stuff like this is why golden comes off as an excuse making clown. Why is he attacking the facilities?

Q: How do you catch up with an FSU?

Golden: They had a great team last year, deserved to be champions. We're on a different course, a different path. We're proud of the way we do things, excited about the direction we're going, about the resources and the commitment we've gotten from the administration and Blake James. We sat here a year ago and didn't know what the future held. We didn't have the fields, a medical center going up, the training table. So there's been a great transition here in the last 12, 13 months. … as bleak as it was a year ago, we're equally excited now. … I don't have time to worry about anyone else's program.

I don't get why this ****es you guys off. The way this reads for me is that he's legit excited about the way the program is going; the new facilities and resource allocation is a big part of forward momentum. He says (for him) it was bleak a year ago, and now we're (he) is excited. Sometimes the guy might just be relaying his true feelings. We are on a different course, a different path, from FSU. The way UM is doing it is different, and he's excited about it. For that matter so am I. Let's go canes. I think it's going to be a breakthrough year.

Holy cow are none of you familiar with coach speak?
Blaming facilities is not coach speak.

At this point I do not care about each point that Golden expounds upon - I just want to see results on the field and wins.

However - one can look at this from a different perspective - Golden has heard the sports media (ESPN etc) attack UM about facilities etc over and over and has heard from recruits over and over and has seen/heard negative recruiting about this over and over - maybe from his point of view - he is trying to emphasize how much better and improved everything is with regard to facilities to stop all the negative press and recruiting etc around them.

Nevertheless -at the end of the day - all that matters at UM is #6 & #7 .... etc

There is a difference between blaming something and pointing out facts. He stated the facilities were sub-par which is true and also noted the big improvement in that area over the last year or so. Dont have a single problem with this statement

I will agree to disagree about his comments. I don't want to veer the thread off track.

You guys don't understand that as the coach he's constantly negotiating for improvements to the program. You want him to say that he has everything needed to lead us to a title right now? Then what leverage does he have?

Bro, I respect you, bro. But you're the one who called him an "excuse-making clown" which seems like Intent to Veer the Thread off Track...

Yes there is nothing wrong if that was the question that was asked. He was asked if we can compete with FSU this year. Saban, Fisher,Briles would have said we could compete with anyone in the country. He pretty said the facilities are why we aren't where we are and that's why we are not focus on them. That makes no sense.it's a huge rival game.

I really would like to see Gray excel at QB. It would be great to have a real, athletic dual-threat. His high school tape shows he can throw. Split him out wide and in the I from time to time, it'd be great to see this kid earn some stats and help us get wins. He's a game-changer.

It's quote parsing season!!!! It's quote parsing season!!!! YAY!!!!!

I hate how Al blinked twice after he mentioned Olsen. Makes me think Olsen is ready to transfer.

He was asked "How do you CATCH UP with an f$u". Did you miss the last sentence, he ain't got no time to worry about other programs.

Would be a great option to have. Hope he really does make it in within the next few days.

He was asked about closing the gap between FSU and us, to which he responded with: they are on a different path and we are on our own path. He then started talking about the improvements in the program acroos the board.

Did you read or listen to the interview? How you came up with this nonsense is baffling.

Matt Porter ‏@mattyports 41s

Golden asked how to narrow the gap between FSU and UM: "Again, I'm not worried about them." Excited about #Canes' direction

Manny Navarro ‏@Manny_Navarro 28s

Golden says he's not worried about #FSU "we're on a different course, a different path. We're excited about the direction we're going."

**** what?
This Golden Comment ****ed me off.

He got mad at The question and then proceeds on talking about we didn't have the facilities and training tables and turf practice fields. I'm like Wtf are you talking about.

**** answer the question we don't give a **** about what facilities we have and don't.

Golden should just spend every press conference talking about how awesome FSU is and how much we suck. That is his job as the HFC at UM, right?

What if he smirked or gritted his teeth? What would that have meant?

@CanesFootball: Golden anticipates Trayone Gray to open at RB. Says he can play WR or wildcat QB, too. "Very good athlete. Big, strong kid."

Interesting
Gray in Wildcat with Duke and/or Joe in backfield with him--lot of home run threat without even throwing the ball.

If he smirked, I would have blasted him for not taking this situation seriously enough and that's why Olsen's doing what he's doing. If he gritted his teeth, it would have told me he's scared of his QB situation and really hates Olsen.
