Golden's First Press Conference Notes (Long)

does anyone feel that Gray will be here..I think Al is keeping us upbeat

Gray should be in by now...just saying.

with the Mess with Blue/ Figs

Olsen BS

my guess is get camp started..get the natives happy and drop the news that gray is not getting in this year..

JUST MY OPINION...HOPE THE **** I AM WRONG

I believe he was finishing up an online class for the final credit he needed to make it in. Does that mean he's through the clearinghous who knows, but doubt Golden would do this as a PR stunt.

Gray just posted that he passed his online class yesterday. He said he'd be on campus by the 6th at the latest.

Q: What do you see that makes you think the defense will be better?

Golden: Well there's a lot of things. Certainly coming out of the spring in terms of our tackling, yards per carry, three and outs, things of that nature. We're attacking more and we're stronger. We have seven guys now on the defensive front that do 225 (pounds) 30 times or more. Mike Wyche comes in and gives us great size and strength, (Calvin) Heurtelou gives us the same. (Anthony) Moten, Chad Thomas - in terms of depth that's the best we've been there on the defensive line in quite some time. We're stronger. The biggest difference I hope is the experience and the quiet mind that we're seeing in the secondary. Everybody is back, everybody is stronger. The belief in each other, the accountability, and we have great leadership, the best leadership we've had in quite some time.

Q: What are the most important factors you want to see improve?

Golden: Tackling is up there. Third down differential, your offense minus your defense - when that's not good your time of possession is not good. We need to get off the field better on defense and convert better on offense. That was a bad matrix for us last year, caused us to be on the field too long. The defense needs to attack more, get more three-and-outs. It's hard to say we'll get more sacks and turnovers than last year. Hopefully we will get more but if we can continue to get to the football those are all things we need to see early on.

---------
If big if the bolded part happens (not just talk), the defense should improve a lot.

Matt Porter ‏@mattyports 41s

Golden asked how to narrow the gap between FSU and UM: "Again, I'm not worried about them." Excited about #Canes' direction

Manny Navarro ‏@Manny_Navarro 28s

Golden says he's not worried about #FSU "we're on a different course, a different path. We're excited about the direction we're going."

**** what?

Also said he doesn't have time to worry about other programs...

This Golden Comment ****ed me off.

He got mad at The question and then proceeds on talking about we didn't have the facilities and training tables and turf practice fields. I'm like Wtf are you talking about.

***** answer the question we don't give a **** about what facilities we have and don't.

I went to several of the spring practices but missed the spring game..

yes more talent and depth....but this D in the spring basically faced a wake forest or UVA type team with Dorsett and Duke missing..

I am one of the few that think this D gets a whole ton better but not in time to make everyone feel better..

If we can beat UL it will impact these kids and how they gel...

@CanesFootball: Golden anticipates Trayone Gray to open at RB. Says he can play WR or wildcat QB, too. "Very good athlete. Big, strong kid."

Interesting

Its amazing how many plans they have for a kid that wasnt even here the whole year. shows his true value.

that's the beauty of him, we can use him in multiple places this year. Can you imagine him late in the game coming in fresh, after the backs we have and the receivers have done their thing. Gore coming in after McGahee and Portis and maybe even Jackson.

Just hope he doesnt become Jason Geathers. Teased us with brilliance for years but never reached his full potential because we ****ed him around too much.

Grace on 3rd down is going to be a nightmare for opposing teams

Spot on. His speed and agility underneath is going to be huge. I've heard AG say that Perryman has been working on his drops as well and knows its a weak point. Hopefully the improvement of those two alone will cut out so much of the BS underneath.

It also sounds like they aren't going to give Chad anything but to get to the QB. Sounds god to me.

This is what golden had to say about kevin from 247.......In my mind, sure. Absolutely. Kevin has made a lot of progress this summer, he really has. He made a lot of progress and grew a lot as a person so I’m anxious to see that tomorrow. Just how much he’s grown. Just in being in meetings, I can hear him, he’s more vocal, more confident, understands the system a lot better, and has had a lot of opportunities to grow since the spring and I’m excited to see what he does tomorrow.”

If we can get AQM, McCord, Thomas and Grace on the field all together there is no reason there shouldn't be a QB on the ground.

See stuff like this is why golden comes off as an excuse making clown. Why is he attacking the facilities?

Q: How do you catch up with an FSU?

Golden: They had a great team last year, deserved to be champions. We're on a different course, a different path. We're proud of the way we do things, excited about the direction we're going, about the resources and the commitment we've gotten from the administration and Blake James. We sat here a year ago and didn't know what the future held. We didn't have the fields, a medical center going up, the training table. So there's been a great transition here in the last 12, 13 months. … as bleak as it was a year ago, we're equally excited now. … I don't have time to worry about anyone else's program.

That Comment ****ed me off, all he had to say was "We are an elite program and not scared of anyone and will beat anyone" or something like that but to have a rant about facilities is beyond me.

It's what he does. He makes excuses and makes disparaging statements whether at the players or school or facilities in a way that makes it seem like he's saying something positive. He basically said the facilities were part of the reason the program is not where it should be. **** is ridiculous how often he does this.
His woe is me schtick is tiresome. If it's so bad at Miami then he should simply resign. If he's so handcuffed and so miserable then put in your resignation and move on.

Holy cow are none of you familiar with coach speak?
Blaming facilities is not coach speak.
