Golden Slurpers vs Golden Haters

I'm a slurper as well. You can't understate the cloud over the program. He took a program that was bottomed out, and has built a great foundation. Nobody can say that the program isn't miles ahead of where he inherited it after 3 years. Undeniable progress is being made. You can't compare him to Malzahn or other guys who have had early success because this is a different gig. ****, after last year we were wondering how Muschamp got his team to 11-1 and a #3 ranking in the allmighty SEC and now he's the worst coach in D1.

So maybe we don't actually know a ******* thing. We are fans so by nature we are crazy. But if you don't see that the program has a clear direction and is in much better hands than it was, I don't know what to tell you. You don't change a culture, install new systems, and build quality depth and experience in 3 years. Its a process and I enjoy where we are right now, with confidence that it will improve.

Why is everyone's solution to fire Donofrio? How about we give the guy a chance to play guys they recruited for the system they want to implement instead these jags that they felt compelled to play because how they stuck with the team and were good sports through it all.
And why are we not allowing them the opportunity to correct the mistakes they've made. 3 years in and I'm sure they learned a lot. Golden and Donofrio are not dumb contrary to popular belief. Maybe they came in a little to sure of themselves and their system that worked for them at Temple but maybe they also have it in them to tweak it some.

There is no middle ground. It doesn't exist. But that's half the fun of sports. What would be the fun if we all agreed and sat down in a circle for a rousing chorus of Kumbaya? No matter what Golden does, he will have his lovers and haters. If he wins 5 consecutive titles, then we can sing Kumbaya, until then, let the debates go on!

I say fire Donofrio because the defense looks putrid. I know the front 7 there is not much quality depth and towards the end of the year the secondary was a little beat up, but with that being said there is absolutely no reason #51 should be dropping back into coverage or a LB covering a WR. That is scheme with the 3 corners we have Howard, Gunter, and Burns there shouldnt be a lineman or a LB on a wide out it is crazy. That is my main issue if the defense is stout in the bowl game maybe give him a extra year to see how it goes. ( by stout I mean less than 10 points 250 yards) Wont happen so I am on the fire Donofrio bandwagon. Hope he proves me wrong though.

Anyone sitting too far on one side is a **** fool

Nail, meet head.

I definitely disagree with those saying Golden should be fired but then coming back and saying he is a great CEO and great recruiter etc. We went from having the worst gameday coach ever who didn't even know how to coach practices (and make kids actually work out and run and get better), to Golden who came in and elevated kids draft stocks in one year by actually making them work and get better (McGee).

The program is finally heading in the right direction, and I hopeeee people can come to terms with that. Recruiting is very solid, talent is starting to fill the depth chart completely, practices are efficient as we all got to witness first hand the other day (which translates to players getting better), and we might have a 10 win season for the first time in 10 years.

While I totally want D'Onofrio gone, that by no means at all has any relation to Golden being gone.. I want Golden here 100%. Really hope he pulls the trigger and lets Coach NoD walk (or pushes him to a HC job at a ****** program). Maybe I'm putting too much stock in Golden, maybe not. If Coach D is let go and we change our defensive philosophy from this read and react **** to an attacking D (a la ex-Defensive Coordinator Jim Johnson of the Philadelphia Eagles) I will cream myself and the sky is the limit for this team. We will ******* take off and spew confidence out the wazoo as we'll be unleashing these athletic freaks onto QB's and racking up sacks and turnovers hopefully.

Yet to be seen. I'd rather see the D change in philosophy rather than someone be fired. Coaching continuity is the name of the game in college, but AL needs to accept the fact that his philosophy has not worked and mix it up. I don't care how long the "NCAA cloud" has hovered, any program or coaching staff worth their salt does not allow DUKE to blow them out. Change it up or go, is what I say to AL. In my eyes it's been 3 years, another year with opponents gaining 400+ yds/gm is an automatic termination.

Slurper here.

For me its quite simple. If coach Golden doesnt make a change at D coordinator this offseason and dorito runs his same back peddling scheme next season then I will begin to call for Golden's firing...repeatedly.

yep. and it will be too late for him at that point. he will lose the team and the fans. probably throw some coordinators under the bus. but it will be a year too late.

AG is signing his death certificate as HC at Miami if he doesnt make a major change on defense in the offseason. meaning at least a new DC that gets full control. preferably a DC that doesnt run this ghey *** 3-4

There have to be very few outright "Al Golden haters."

Thats the thing, if you point out ANY one thing about Golden or even as much question it you are a evil and should be banned. Its quite comical actually. I had to read it multiple times here but we actually have people post Donofrio deserves a raise. You cant discuss things with people like that.

was this post machine generated? poor attempt at hyperbole.

AG has said repeatedly that he wants an attacking defense, but I think you answered the main issue in your closing statement. I don't think AG has felt that he has the horses to run the defense he really wants. We can debate whether or not that's true until we're all blue in the face, but it doesn't matter unless AG and Coach D are comfortable with it. IMO, we'll see the level of aggression increase as the talent and depth improves, but time will tell. I think we can all agree that the coaches need to do a better job bringing in top-level talent and teaching whatever it is they're trying to teach. No scheme is designed to allow 500+ yards of offense, so there's a lot of work to do. I don't get into the calling for coaches to be fired crap because I don't know what they're trying to do or who is ******** up. If AG fires Coach D, then that's fine with me. If he keeps him, we'd better start seeing some improvement.

I'm an advocate of Al Golden. Even if he doesn't bring this team back to greatness, I appreciate his loyalty to the "U" and to the players even after the administration deceitfully failed to mention the Shapiro scandal -- but ultimately, I am already sold on his ability to have Frank Beamer-Like Results i.e. perpetual 10 game winning seasons and the occasional BCS game -- here's to hoping he can take us a step further...

If you don't have faith in this regime, root for whoever wins the national championship in any given year -- the rest of us are sick of your constant complaining and whining.

No coach is going to come out and say "I want a slow, on our heals defense". If they wanted a single gap penetrating defense, or a zero blitz 46, or a Jim Johnson (eagles) zone blitz, then they'd be playing that. They all would be easier to adapt to, simplify, and coach than an Okie front cover 3 base (IMO)......

They need to adapt their playbook to make it easier for the athletes to excel.

Jury is still out on Golden. but let's appreciate what he has accomplished after the mess he was left with. No one should be satisfied, but all signs point to improvement based on the talent level that has been recruited over the talent that was left. Even though many on the board thinks he should be out, at least his peers think otherwise as evidenced by the recent Lombardi award. It is very hard to have patience, but IMO it is required. We are who we are and want to be who we were!

It seems to me that Golden has been hitting everything out of the park, EXCEPT his horrific defense. He does everything else extrememly well and is great HC. But if he cannot fix his defense by whatever means neccessary then he must go. The only thing he has done that I do not like is he has thrown players under the bus while excusing his coaches. I assume it comes from the one flaw he has, blind committment to a failed D and a BFF. I think Al needs a DC with his own system, like he has with OCs. The DC needs to have competed successfully at the level we seek, not Temple. Al is so great at so much, it would be a shame to see him fail for pride. That is my middle ground, I want Al: I do not want a horrible defense. If he changes DCs, I would want to give him 3 more years. If he insist on Mark and defense does not show HUGE improvement next year, fire Mark and hope Al quits so we don't have the payout.

Couple things here, first good posts. You are right that Radio was the worst, the absolute worst. The thing for me is that things got so bad with RS that people kinda forgot what excellence(which is what we should strive for at Miami) actually. We saw any signs of improvement, and there was tons at every facet of the program and many would mistake it for excellence. Did Golden handle the NCAA mess about as well as it good have been handled? Absolutely. Is he an ace when it comes to media relations? Once again yes. But that is where we kinda hit a fork in the road.

I think Golden is a very good recruiter, but Im not ready to put him in that elite category just yet. 2012, on the surface he did about as well as anyone could have hoped for by getting pretty much every local stud, and the big time pull of Howard, and all of this under the cloud. I hate that term BTW. We never had a chance with OOS kids because of the investigation, so I never faulted him on Goldman or Diggs. What I think doesnt get brought up enough is the rest of the class. That whole year all I heard, was Golden found diamonds in the rough at Temple left and right, Wilkerson! Wilkerson was a 2 star!!!!! Well he started the Al Golden camp, which according to what I was lead to believe, would be the ace up our sleeve against the 'cloud'. Yeah maybe we couldnt get every super stud like UF or FSU, but Golden was gonna use his eval skills to bring in these unheralded studs that S Fl produces every year. Well the camps came and went along with the commits and how many of those evals actually were on the mark????? I only bring it up because, whenever someone that was just trying to raise some legit concern, they would get labeled this hater, when they were just raising a concern over something that they ended up being right about. Then we had the debacle of 2013, and now 2014 looks great but lets see how we close. Bottom line is that I still dont see Golden as elite, and that is supposed to be his strongest suit when it actually comes to the team. Yet if I say Golden isnt elite in this department, I get labeled a hater, but the reality is that these same people have been brainwashed(maybe the wrong word) into believeing that anything better than what we saw from RS is somehow elite.

Lastly comes the Dorito, and this one is pure and simple. Dorito is an extension of Golden, he is running Golden's system. We can get a new guy in place, but what evidence do we have right now, that it would make a difference? The evidence I have is that Golden has run this very same defense his whole coaching career, and that he himself has shown signs of being stubborn. Does that sound like the root of the problem is with NoD or the HC? Yet if this gets brought up you are labeled a hater......

Bottom line for me is that I sympathize with the supposed haters a lot more than the supporters, why? Well Ive been smart enough to pay attention to what happened with the previous 2 regimes. More often than not, the haters, have a better pulse on what is going on. We are at a crossroads with Al, lets see what he does and how he adjusts, cause if he does turn the corner I will be the first in line to give him props, but if he keeps shetting the bed(Duke this year), then I will call like I see it and not try to rationalize in my head why its all okay.
