Golden interview after scrimmage

I suspect that the backs will probably end up being about like the 1999 unit. After Ed James left we had James Jackson (steady, not spectacular) and an unheralded guy named Clinton Portis. Davenport was supposed to be a factor but got hurt. I am not sure that James/Clements can give us what Jackson gave us (probably, honestly) and I doubt that Duke will far exceed Portis but he has the advantage of being a known factor from the outset. With a solid, unspectacular lead guy and significant contributions from freshmen, we should be decent there. We have to hope Duke does not have fumble-itis which is a freshman tendency, and we have to hope that our passing game is enough to back people off of us.

He had a bum shoulder for half the year. No biggie.
So you're saying the current core won't match or better a player that his play was affected by a bum shoulder?

Maybe Duke Johnson. There have been 6 (I think) 1,000 yard rushers in UM history. Chances that one of these guys produces like Miller isn't very good.

I'm talking "Collectively" as a unit.
You know the 2010 rushing unit led by Damien Berry performed better as a whole than the 2011 one led by Miller right?

So it comes down to can Duke best Miller's RS Freshman year and can either James or Clements best Berry's SR year. I don't see why not.

I bet Mike James will have about 800 yards rushing with 12 TDs.

zone3cane...you have said Payton is a better Rb than Miller, Miller is a better Rb than Payton, and Miller and Payton are equal.

You're not dwight schrute. stop saying FACT before things. And if you do say FACT, make sure it is in fact, a fact, and not an opinion, which seems to be what you're doing. Trying to be clever and analytical isn't your strong suit.

Stop trolling the FB board. We use this to get good information without the trolling and have real discussions.

This is make believe. Lamar Miller is a better running back than Jarrett Payton anyday of the week, bum shoulder or not. And i find it HILARIOUS to see people claiming he was soft. Lamar Miller lowered his shoulder and ran thru people before his injury. Go watch the gametape.

Your opinions are welcome here, as everyone's is zone3cane, but please make them logical and in this realm of reality.

Duke > Portis
James > James Jackson

C'mon mane....we beat Tenn with any other Cane RB not named Moss in the OB that year.....Payton had abot 30 yards and got gunned down. Payton was in no way better than Millertime

Maybe I can't say Payton was better than Miller but nobody can tell me that Miller was better than Payton.

IMO I just think Payton ran the ball way tougher than Miller did last year.

Paging SF , it looks like you might actually be needed .

I also think lamar was overrated last year, now idk about all 3 being better than him but i think altogether a better running game for sure.

Miller who ran for 1000 yards was overrated? He was our first 1000 yard runner in how long? Is this real life?

This. Miller was a very good running back, and not at all overrated.

The canes had a lot of problems last year..... running back was NOT one of them.

Get it together man. You are bringing down the quality of the board.

You can't really compare Clinton Portis to Lamar Miller

H-ll No you can't.... Miller is on the Payton level as far as comparing what he brought to the Canes.... Now Payton wasn't an NFL draft prospect but that's completely missing the point.

Actually that makes my point.... A player, who didn't even get drafted, had, at least, the same amount of production and effectiveness, as someone who was suppose to be a 1st round pick.
same production? Miller averaged 106 yards per game. Payton 76 yards per game. Miller 5.6 per carry. Payton 5.4 per carry.

Thanks for the extra info; I was going off the OP. No mention of Dorsett, Scott or any of the TE's doing much.

Nothing from Dorsett, the TE's or Scott. Guys that have been talked up and no mention during the scrimmage.

On the surface it sounds a lot like last year, and trouble stopping the run remains an issue.....

Dorsett had 3 for 27 and a TD, Dye had 2 TD's, and I wanna say Scott caught 3 balls as well.

That's a funny quote....

Let me clarify my position to the rest of the confused on here...... I NEVER said Payton was a better Running back than Lamar Miller. I was basically trying to say that his last year was better than Miller's last year, IMO, b/c he was tougher and more consistent running than Lamar Miller.

I think Miller was and still is a better OVERALL running back.... my position is ONLY about how I saw the both of them look throughout their LAST year running the ball for Miami. (My personal opinion)

I dont understand the confusion.... It's like if say Kenny Phillips freshman year was better than Sean Taylor's freshman year. Does that mean I think Kenny Phillips is better than Sean Taylor.... LMAO why do I even have to go there to get my point across????

Maybe I said Payton was a better RB than Miller there respective final years..... b/c that's how I feel about it. and So

The rest of that is me understanding everybody's point and trying to come to a happy medium about it. I could really careless about the argument b/c Miller is a Hurricane and so is Payton. You all sound like I'm saying a Gator or Seminole is better which would be blasphemous. I am talking about two players wearing the same uniform.

See I don't trash players who play for us. I have love and gratitude for every Cane that played his role. Miller was my guy last year, my guy this year is Mike James. So there it is nothing more nothing less.... let it go.

This entire thread is a ****ing disaster. I came here to read about Golden's interview and then there's 4 pages of Miller/Payton talk. Those dudes aren't even here any more, who gives a ****? Christ.

I agree.... everybody should move on. I wasn't even trying to make it a war about who was better than who. I said my point and other said there's. My bad for my part in messing up the "quality" and point of this thread.

:stormwarning:

I'm convinced if Miller hadn't left for the draft early, all these haters would be saying how Lamar Miller is going to rush for 2000 yards this season and may go down as the greatest UM RB ever. The fact that he left early seems to have angered all these fans for whatever reason. He was the best player on our entire team last season and I don't think it's even close. Maybe Spence.

And someone please explain to me how the exodus from canesport has been good for this board? It's a bunch of cityboys. Jesus.....

hey guys let me know next time your gonna.....

- Hey look guy..... you don't know anything about football. If Lamar Miller hadn't left early, he would automatically be better, b/c that's what happens when a HC runs an effective program. Would that still make him the greatest RB at UM ever. HAAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA how old are you 15?? A perfectly healthy Miller and 100% improved Miller, couldn't sniff Frank Gore, Edgerrin James, and definitely Willis McGahee. Kill yoself chump.

- Even if he did come back I would stay say that Mike James could take his spot.... and so.

- I've been a member of this website since May but new about it WAY before that. I wasn't a part of an "exodus" from canesport. I'm still over there from time to time. I am a member of the free board never anything that I would have to pay for.

- There are lot of things I could say to little girls like you really....

Lets try to keep the personal attacks to a minimum. You've been warned about this before too bruh. Attack his statement, not him.
