Geo's Mega Canes Recruiting Buzz 10/10 - Football Edition

Not sure thee age of some of you but you must not remember Bobby Bowden. He closed his top guys on. NSD every year. Dude was a CLOSER.

Mario is a closer. Who cares if it’s late, last minute, flips or whatever as long as the end result is good. Mario has proven his whole career he can recruit. Recruiting is the last thing ppl should be worried about.

Enjoy the actual football season and then see who signs in December. If Miami misses on some top guys then I’m sure they will spend big in the portal. Cam comes off the books after this year and will free up a lot of cash.

Also if Miami wins the ACC and goes to the playoffs, I’m sure more cash will be funneled into the NIL to spend for next year. These recruits and ppl donating need to see success first in the field. 6-0 isn’t enough.
Speak it

Bowden would reel in 9 guys on NSD and enter the top 5 all the time.

Just being honest. If we had ANY QB other than Cam Ward, we would be 4-2 right now. We would have lost to Va Tech and Cal. We would be eliminated from the ACCCG already. It's a 7 or 8 win team without him.

We lose Ward next year. I'm sure we'll land a good portal QB but the chances of landing another Ward are extremely small.

So the way I look at it is we can't just be getting replacement level players, we need to get players that are difference makers if we want to take the next step or even just avoid slipping backwards next season and the following.

One might say we wouldn't have needed heroics with better game management from Cam against Cal, and if we sort out the secondary next season Va Tech isn't an adventure either.

Our team will be better next season due to roster development and talent infusion. The QB has to protect the football and distribute to playmakers. We should be able to play behind our defense & running game next season, no matter who we have under center.

I hope and expect you are / will be proven correct. We haven’t even tapped into most of our young talent and I expect the portal will be huge for us as well. That said, I also know we’re going to swing for the fences for an elite QB to transfer in, too. What top QB wouldn’t want to come to Miami knowing we’re willing to let him sling it behind our OL passing to our TEs, WRs and RBs?

some positions are more important than others in recruiting. It’s like your GPA vs your core GPA. How you did in your elective pottery class isn’t as important as how you did in Calc 1. Critical positions to recruit out of HS: DT, CB, WR. I think all the other positions can be bought in the portal, especially QB.

Duck for cover, but….

*whispers*
…I agree

Although, I’d bet on us having some December fireworks if we keep this season up. A lot of high floor guys, but I agree we are lacking some top end immediate high impact guys that get us in that top 5 range. Which is what we need, JMO.
Yeah you’re both right

Right now this class needs to be better but based on what we saw last year after an extremely ****** year on the field, I’ll absolutely chill and wait before I say anything. So much time left to flip.

I honestly think this is a below average hs class in general. Not too many generational types this year: Jeremiah Smith, Cedric Baxter, David Stone, Francis types. Not seeing those wow level dudes like the last two cycles and even looking ahead to 2026 it seems WAY more stacked compared to this year's.

OSU and Bama really cornered the market early in the game too. OSU bought a lot of commitments to ease the tension from the Michigan losses and I’m assuming Bama did the same to ease the transition of coaches

We will see if that holds up but felt like a ton of guys were off the board really early but we know Mario is working in the background

Feels like it's less quality but a lot of quantity of solid not spectacular guys. Luckily it's a strong year in the secondary and it's our biggest need which is why we gotta capitalize and close strong with flips of Pickett/Hanks. The strong season will make the portal shopping so much easier for us next year.

Yeah the portal has been getting better and better as our roster has improved. Hopefully we just keep stacking the wins and Mario won’t have to work as hard to land certain guys

Derek Cooper RB for Chaminade

Are we recruiting him and how good is he?

I think he had 180 yards on 11 carries including an 80 yd td run against STA tonight in Nade’s win 29-22.

Arguably the best player in FL in next years class, which is loaded in SFL.

I agree but going to have to convince a QB to come with no returning starting WRs and possibly without starting TE

Moore and Sanchez would be top 10 in any year you chose.

But I was told you don’t use calculus in real life and my pottery sits nice on my front porch 😂

We’ll see. Very possible Horton and Brown are back. Plus I strongly suspect we’re also going out to the portal for a #1 even as Horton is starting to flash as a possible anchor WR in his own right.
