Gators only willing to do "neutral" site to play UM

Wherrera8,

First, congrats on stepping forward and taking on a leadership position on-campus. Trust me, leaders are made, not born.

One thing leaders do learn is a problem, like a cut diamond, has many facets. You mentioned being "Cuban," so I imagine your heritage is one of being South Florida raised, with quite a few friends going to UF. It is natural for you to want to have a robust rivalry with their school, but the realities of conference play (as opposed to when Miami was independent, which IHTP fails to mention in his lame "anyplace" crack) the ACC and SEC doing eight game schedules, and the CFP playoff SOS component makes things much more difficult. As I said before, Foley's position is weakening and rushing into a deal with a team which could be on a downswing may not be the best course for UM. Additionally, you now represent the students who are NOT Florida residents; indeed, thanks to the State of Florida's campaign against private schools in the state, slightly more than 50% of UM's undergrad population is in the out of state category. Games like the UM home and home series with Rutgers (a Power Five Conference Member now) is important to those UM students from NJ for the same reasons as you want a UF series. Keep everything in perspective and I'm sure you will be a great VP!

On a side note, funny how UF is now copying Big Ego Urban's new digs at O$Uck. Like O$Uck, they whine about not having a enough "revenue-generating" home games (8 games every other year in O$Ucks recent history) or demanding concessions when they do go on the road. A few years back O$Uck played Toledo as the visiting team...In Cleveland!

Hey that means a lot. I do have a lot of friends that go to UF and I also grew up watching us beat the Gators. Believe it or not after this year, a lot of students want us to play the Gators. Also because of Bright Futures and The Florida Resident Access Grant there are a lot more students from Florida. For us it is more about reviving tradition and spirit so that future generations can expect to always play UF just like we play FSU. They are both our rivals.

More importantly though, thanks for the positive words and advice. I really appreciate it.

God Bless!

Your Welcome; my son and daughter in law were leaders in their own ways while at UM and are better for it. In the recent discussions about student athletes unionizing, the issue of of how much time the student athlete spends outside of the classroom on sports has come up. Some of the talking heads bemoaning this issue need to spend some time with some of student leaders at a major research university like UM. I think they may learn it is not just student athletes "burning the candle at both ends."

Congratulations to them!

It really is a lot of work, but we do it because we want to make our U better for the future generations. It's worth it in the end and we do learn a lot.

We have a HC who has gone on record about wanting a softer schedule (If doesn't get much softer than the ACC) and we have people saying someone else is scared. Sure, Orlando might not be exactly neutral, but it's not like it's that far either. If it makes financial sense for both schools, it'll happen. if it doesn't, it's because one doesn't need the other or one side felt they weren't getting a fair deal. UF doesn't need us, never has, and for some reason our fans choose not to acknowledge it or just don't care to.

Link??

Miami doesn't need UF either. We have 5 national championships, our endowment per student blows them away, and we continue to beat them on and off the field. We just like to keep doing it.

To be honest we need them more than they need us, and how are we beating them off the field exactly?

yet continues to schedule FSU

UF.ag leads the series with Free Seafood U. 34-22-2. UF.ag has beaten Miami twice in the last 20 years. The Florida legislature had to intervene to keep UF.ag from dropping the Free Seafood series. I'm no math whizz, but that adds up to UF.ag being a bunch of pu$$ies.

City of Orlando is renovating the Citrus Bowl for $210M, in two years it will be completed an hopefully UM will play a game there. In Addition there is a regentrification effort of roughly a 40 block area between downtown and the Citrus bowl that is being redeveloped currently into what the city is calling "Creative Village". The Orlando Magic is are also building a $200M entertainment complex in that zone across from the $400M Arena they finished two years on church Street. The City is also building a $150M Pro Stadium in that zone as well on church street which should be finished by 2015.

I was hoping the ACC would wise up an move the ACC Championship Game to the Citrus Bowl, Orlando is built for hospitality and hosting events.

Here is a Video of the remodel currently, The Citrus Bowl will open for games this fall and be completed for 2015.

How are we not? Higher ranked school. Their fans wear jorts, and, worse yet, allow themselves to be photographed wearing jorts. Their hero/savior/greatest of all time did missionary work castrating little boys in Asia when he should've been learning how to freaking throw. They don't know the difference between an alligator and a crocodile (http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/sec/2003-07-30-florida-mediaguide_x.htm). They do have us beat in the all-time Fulmer Cup rankings, though (http://www.sportsargumentwiki.com/index.php?title=Fulmer_Cup_Dynasty)

Since UF is obviously jerking UM around, and Miami is in talks to play PSU anyway UM should offer PSU a Home and Home Plus 1 neutral site game to be played in Orlando. With the Happy Valley game to be played no later than the 2nd week of Oct of any given year, and the game at UM, plus the neutral site to be played the week of thanksgiving in Miami and Orlando.

It would be like two bowl games for them and essential gives UM a 8th home game, PSU would jump on that offer considering they have 2 more years of bowl bans until 2017. That was the main reason they wanted to play UCF in Ireland this year. But Miami vs PSU games on Thanksgiving would definitely be headliner of the week. Also PSU travels very well so Sun life Stadium would be solid out, giving UM another win fall.

Of course they never "needed" us. They never were anything, so they never needed anything. If those slims are talking to us then they need us now. Saban is making SEC take on bigger out of conference games, so the swamp scum need a bigger name for anther home game. Playing us in Orlando must be the best way for them to get it. It whey try to get a game with teams in the other big conferences they might actually have to travel out side of Florida for a out of conference game--and we all know they don't do that. I guess their fans do not have enough money for gas in the pickup for that distance AND bail money for their players. I am fine with 20 -16 Forever. They had their little spurt with Urban when THE U and Criminoles were both down, now they are done. The suck head feather people are back and we will be with the next coach. ***** the gator. I was in the OB for the flop and nobody loves beating them more than me, but I would rather just say drop dead.

I actually like that idea. PSU would probably also like exposure in central FL for recruiting. Heck, they might steal some gator recruits so that makes it better.

I never understand why people can't understand these issues. It has nothing to do with being scared, its all about money.

UF already loses a home game by having a neutral site game with UGA. In years where we play away OOC (take this past year for example) we only get 6 home games. The trend across college football is to get a minimum of 7 home games, **** some teams are even getting 8. I would love to play UM every year and I'm one who wishes the series would continue, but I understand why it doesn't.

All across college football the trends in schedules are obvious.

1 tough OOC game (FSU)
1 decent mid major (usually an upper echelon MAC caliber team)
2 OOC cupcakes
8 conference games

UF isn't doing anything any different than anybody else. UF's schedule is annually in the top 10 and yet people think they're afraid to play somebody.

You don't lose a home game vs UGA. Both teams use that as an away conf game, so that is why you always have 4 home conf games.

Basically you have 7.5 home games a year. Most teams have 7 or sometimes 6.

Their OOC schedule annually sucks. They are scared to schedule teams.

LOL ok. People have this perception that all these top teams are scheduling beasts OOC. UF plays FSU OOC who is better on average than 90% of the teams the other powers are scheduling. If you look at the OOC schedule of the power teams you'd see that. For example last year:

FSU: Nevada, Bethune, Idaho, UF (Outside of UF, 3 cupcakes)
Michigan: Central Michigan, Notre Dame, Akron, Uconn. (Notre Dame and 3 cupcakes)
Ohio St.: Cal, Buffalo, San Diego St., Florida A&M (All trash)
Oklahoma: Louisiana-Monroe, Tulsa, Notre Dame (decent Notre Dame, 2 cupcakes)
Oregon: Nicolls St., UVA, Tennessee (decent but UVA and Tennessee had down years)
Texas: New Mexico St., BYU, Ole Miss (decent Ole Miss, 2 cupcakes)
USC: Hawaii, BC, Utah St., Notre Dame (decent BC and ND, 2 cupcakes)

I could keep going. But like I've been saying the constant in schedules for the power schools all across football is one top 25 caliber BCS opponent, one Mac level school, and 2 cupcakes. UF's OOC isn't any different than anybody else's. But you'll believe what you want.
