The fake death threats is what got him fired
I agree with you both, but there has to be more to this story. This guy got them 2 consecutive SEC East titles, and then he gets fired all of a sudden in Year 3? Don’t forget that UF had just given him a raise and a contract extension over the Summer.
So to Rell’s point, what the **** happened so quickly to warrant the fast firing? OK, they underachieved this year but you would think that the suspensions give him an alibi for at least another year.
Must have been bad blood somewhere between him and the athletic department because it just doesn’t add up.
Either way, it’s going to make potential candidates think very long and hard about walking into that $hitstorm knowing they could face the same quick hook.
There have been comments on their board recently that he wasn't liked within the Athletic Department or by other coaches from other sports. Apparently, he never participated in things with the other sports' coaches which rubbed his counterparts wrong.
First, the comment about other sports was about Urban (and even if it was also true of McSharkfvcker, it was DEFINITELY true of Urban).
Second, there is a very good article on SI.com right now about the firing of McSharkfvcker. Andy Staples is a UF alum, so I think he is pretty dialed in about this. More importantly, he pinpoints when this all started to unravel, and it was a year ago. I'm from Orlando and I specifically remember this, because Bianchi writes for the Sentinel, but essentially Bianchi asked McSharkfvcker a question after the bowl game win about "momentum" heading into the next year. McSharkfvcker then turned it into a comment about waiting to see what level of "commitment" would be offered by the UF administration.
Now, you need to understand why this comment started to destroy the relationship. For one thing, the AD was brand-new at the time, so to act as if he was not fully committed is just crazy and premature. For another thing, UF was doing all kinds of stuff for McSharkfvcker that they had not done before, including an Indoor Practice Facility and the contract extension that we all know about.
So when people wonder about the motivation of the UAA statement (about talking with the Corch about death threats and him not offering any further information), you can see that the UAA did to Mac what Mac did to them (i.e., involving a bus and throwing and whatnot).
The stuff has been going downhill for a year. I believe that the AD still gave Mac the extension under the thought that the post-bowl-game comments were just a one-time aberration. But the Corch continued to ramble during his press conferences until the press was treating it like a Howard Stern show...
