Tears Gator Tears

It's not that they're particularly bad or anything. Their biggest issue is parts availability or lack thereof. They're really big on dealer support which is great if you're a dealer but not great if you're a consumer. Almost every part outside of minor stuff like belts is only available through their dealer network. So if you need to buy replacement parts or have any service done, you pretty much HAVE to take it to a dealer, who in turn, can charge whatever they want since they're usually the only place in town. Their commercial units even use specific models of Kawasaki engines that non John Deere dealers can't access. I'm a Kawi dealer and if I try to plug one of their model numbers into the parts lookup for Kawi, I'll get a blank screen on the web site. It's crazy.

As for residential Z-turns, there's some good ones out there. I have customers that use the Toro residential models commercially and even though I don't recommend it, they seem to hold up fairly well. I always tell people that whatever brand they choose just make sure that the local dealer is someone you don't mind dealing with. You might find the best mower in the world but if you have to drive three hours just to get a set of blades, it's not worth it.

Ha, I may need to give you a call! I was kinda thinking about picking up something used at the end of the year. Once I get the yard tamed this week, it should get a lot easier, it's just more area than I'm accustomed to. Still mostly flat, like Florida, but a couple of mild inclines, nothing major. My brother lives on a river in Orlando, though, so he's got some elevation to contend with.

This is my new back yard. 😭

I've got a 2004 L130 that's still mowing 2+ acres on the regular.

I'd love to hear your recommendation for my next mower though. I'm thinking zero turn.
I’ve never owned a rider. Never had enough yard to justify one. My mother-in-law has a Cub Cadet zero turn with a steering wheel. She’s had it about 5 years with no issues. My wife loves it. As DTP mentioned, gotta take them to a dealer for service which is common for any brand.

Hold off until winter or fall at least, if possible. Used equipment sells for pennies on the dollar in the off season

So far, I've done all the service on mine except when the PTO clutch went bad and my brother in law did it while I was at work. Last year I had to rebuild the deck as is was chewing up belts because someone hit a very large log and bent the spindles.

“Someone” needs some driving lessons.

I never recommend them unless you have a huge yard. The turning radius on non zero turn mowers is pretty bad and if you have a smaller yard or lots of trees/landscaping, it may take longer to cut. I used to have a rider at my old house. Mostly I used it to pull my boat trailer around the yard but I would occasionally use it to mow the back yard. Between crashing into the picnic table and trying not to hit tree roots, it was faster to use my 21” walk behind. Obviously if you live on an acre or some huge plot, there’s no real other option besides paying someone.

It’s considered a zero turn even though it has a streering wheel instead of the double arms. I’m sure it’s turning radius isn’t that of the double arms but I was surprised at it’s turning radius. MIL only has a little over an acre that’s pretty straight forward.

This mo-fo thinks he invented IPTAY (compare what $10 was 100 years ago).

Regardless, he would be lucky if 1/3 of all living Gaytor alums care about Gaytor football. A lot of those alums only went to UiF for a grad, law, or med degree (like me).

I'm one of those 470,000 living Florida alums, and I'm never giving a penny to Gaytor football, let alone $100.
That is a critical fact regarding both UF and FSU. Being an alum doesn't mean that you are a fan of their football programs. I have friends who graduated from FSU, now a CPA, diehard UM fan and season ticket holder. Same with UF. If you're a state resident it is a heck of a deal on a quality education for $7500 a year.

Agree ... do not buy a zero turn or any major mower from a Big Box store. No service from them and generally the BIG BOX models are special models and not as well built as the models sold in the tractor / landscape supply outlets. I have a Hustler Raptor, 42" (only have 1.5 acres) that is going on 9 years old. Bought it at a Landscape Supply company that sells mowers to landscape companies and has a full time maintenance staff of 4 mechanics that service all of the equipment they sell. Take a mower in for service and frequently it's ready the same day.

Or $0 if you get Bright Futures.

You know they’re really digging when they start going after attendance or “rented stadium”. They’ve got nothing substantial so they go back to their playbook. They have 17,000 allotted seats for students at their home games. UM doesn’t even have 17,000 students.

It’s a shame nobody wins the attendance national championship because that’s literally the only thing they still have to cling to.
Like a kid picking a school cause the stadium doesn't have cheer leaders or it's a far walk. It's a cope excuse the copium is real. The better college town bs excuse. If this were true no one would go to Bama. Kids pick cause of the HC and the relationship between them and the HC and bread. That's it.

Most of the people I tailgate with went to UCF. I have friends that went to UF and FSU that are Miami season ticket holders. I would have loved to have gone to private school in Coral Gables but my family doesn’t have it like that so I went to public school in Orlando. The thing these gators don’t get is that when you’re a Miami fan from birth, you don’t just change your allegiances because you took some classes. They’re fans because they went to school there. I was a college football fan way before I ever went to college
