FYI ... Duke ...

Wasn't that what Miami always did? Recruit guys, bulk them up and move them up to a different position? Isn't that how our speed advantage was born?

And why are people letting Golden off the hook when pointing to the "JAGS" on the defense? A lot of them listed are his recruits.

The first year of recruiting he was in scramble mode so I think he is getting a pass there. The Corey Kings of the world should never have been forced into being here.

Golden has a different philosophy and if you take a closer look at our recruiting you will see why people are letting him slide a little bit. Dude is building some real deal classes, on paper anyway.

I should add to that the type of recruiting that people are talking about is the "Alabama" recruiting that we used to get away with.

The huge, glaring difference is those teams had upper classmen talent on the 2 deep. You could bring in the young guys, coach them up, bulk them up and not have to worry about putting them out there immediately.

We are not in that position. We need to recruit guys that can play right now, and that's tough enough, let alone sanctions and Golden really only having one full year of recruiting.

If we are going to blame Golden for certain deserved things, the roster and recruiting are two things that aren't fair IMO.

With as bad as the DE play has been where the **** is Rico Williams? Is he still on the team? Can dude even get a rep?

Rico is one of those dudes that fits in to the older philosophy that we are trying to get back to. We are supposed to have guys holding down the line while guys like Rico have time to develop, and develop more naturally rather than forced (just my personal opinion).

Golden is going to be linked to this 2011 class the way Randy was linked to the 08 class. In 2-3 years this class SHOULD be the backbone to the team while the young guys who are ready, contribute, and the young guys who need time, are given time to develop.

Just gotta hope and wait and see. I feel optimistic though seeing what we are doing on the recruiting trail so far.

Golden better be able to make all those d linemen from this past class develop FAST.

Dukes ma says its Turf toe and she said hes been fighting it for a couple games now

FAAAAAAAAAAAACK ME! That could ruin the rest of his Frosh season. Best to just let it heal up and sit him. Let Mike James get into a rhythm and raise his draft stock.
He could probably hit the weights hard now and be ready for Spring ball...turf toe can be a pretty serious injury.

Not only is Green a LB playing DE,Chick is not much bigger. Both are around 245-250 and Green is playing on one knee, has to always sit out practices to let the knee recover, back to back acl surgeries.Would have been smart to sign at least 1 JC DE in last years class and we should sign 1 this year too.

Not surprised at all to hear about Duke in a boot. Last couple weeks he seemed to not have that extra burst. I didn't know if it was because the defenses were a little better or he might be a little banged up.

I thought he looked slower last Saturday. Just wasn't getting to the hole quickily.

Another factor that is unmentioned in this thread is how we uses them. We recruited lbs converted them to end but it worked because we ran a one gap attacking scheme. We lined up wide and had them attack downfield and wide of the OTs.

Our undersized guys are getting mauled in control, read and react.

Cain is also a "linebacker" playing defensive end.

However, in college, LOTS of "linebackers" play defensive end. It shouldn't be an excuse. I mean, UF has Lerentee McCray playing defensive end now and he's no bigger than Cain and Green. Its just, Cain is an FCS talent and Green a low-level FBS talent while McCray is a legitimate BCS talent.

It is because of the scheme. If we ran a one gap scheme those players would be outstanding.
