FYI ... Duke ...

Larry, understood. But, we can't hide undersized players on this defense. For example, add a stud DT in the middle and suddenly Green on the outside doesn't look so bad. But he's playing alongside Earl Moore, a true FR, Corey King, true sophomore (?), and a bunch of JAGs (Smith, Robinson, Grimble, Pierre) and it don't look so good.

Larry used McCray who is starting alongside a two deep at DT filled with high school stars.

We got Corey King, Green, Cain who may have two BCS offers between the 3 of them.

But we are venturing into one of those threads again.

Yeah, I don't know much about Florida's D (other than that they're good), but I know that both Floyd and Easley were monster recruits that could have gone anywhere. Our guys ... not so much.

I guess the boot expalains Duke's last couple games. I know the UNC game is just as important ACC wise, but I want Duke as healthy as possible for FSU so I kinda hope he just doesn't play this week. UNC's D is nothing like FSU so I'll roll with James and OT for UNC. I was thinking until now that this would be Duke's "Sammy Watkins" type game where goes ape****. I know he did vs. BC, but they just lost to F'ing Army.

As to the guys playing out of position like Shayon, I think Golden will make it a thing of the past for the most part. We just have to give it time. We will have some hybrid types but that's a different story. I think Shayon is doing a commendable job out there too, considering the DT's are playing out of position. That position being Division 1 football player.

why do people keep saying they want duke as healthy as possible for FSU? as if he's a difference maker. he hasn't proven to be that yet against the big boys (ACC comp and i'm not counting BCC and BC)

Shayon Green has one leg. He moves poorly for a DE, let alone a LB. Love the kids effort and story, but , unfortunately, you are going to have a defense like we have if you have a one-legged LBer starting at DE for you

Cain and Green are bums in their own right...not simply as a result of the hodge podge of guys in the middle.

Noone can argue that.

Some people that dont follow recruiting dont really understand the level we are working with here though.

It takes a special athlete to play DE at 6'1 250 lbs. Not many out there with the burst/strength/skills to get it done every play.

Boy we really need to hit a couple of homeruns with some JUCO Dlineman this year in recruiting

Not sure if serious. If you are serious, you're seriously retarded like that post. There, I attacked the post and the poster.

Did you even read the post? He's probably been playing hurt the last few games and he's a TRUE FRESHMAN.

Yeah, we don't want our most electric player healthy for our biggest rival. Are you actually a Cane fan? Jesus. SMH.

So who gets the carries of Johnson doesn't go?

James/Clements/Crawford?

Probably James and Clements. Maybe use Crawford as a receiver out of the backfield but we haven't seen him on offense yet this year. He is playing well on STs from what I've seen.

those LSU ends are 240-250

So its weight, not talent, that's important?

LSU DEs are super explosive and train under the best strength coach in the biz.

Biggest difference to me in our down years has without a doubt been strength and conditioning. And when I say strength I'm talking explosive, hip drive power.
I could give 2 ****s less about some bench press numbers (you don't play football lying on your back).

I would love to hear our squat, clean, and jerk #s.

Truthfully the issue isn't that we have a "LB playing DE." Jimmy used to utilize those kinds of conversions all day on defense. The issue is that we have a guy who lacks the ideal size to play de (height and weight) but because of injuries/lack of talent/whatever you want to call it, he ALSO lacks the explosiveness to play linebacker. He's basically position-less, but we simply have no one else.

As for Cain, his problem, as it has always been, is that he isn't very good at football.

It'd be one thing to say we have a LB playing DE, because then at least we'd get quick feet, speed, agility, good burst etc. But those guys simply have none of those qualities, and on top of that their technique is years behind from lack of coaching at the position, and neither of them are capable of owning the line of scrimmage. Yeah some of it may be what they are being asked to do, gap control yadda yadda, but if you just watch what happens when they engage anyone from a TE to a tackle, they just lose the battle more often than they win it.

Wasn't that what Miami always did? Recruit guys, bulk them up and move them up to a different position? Isn't that how our speed advantage was born?

And why are people letting Golden off the hook when pointing to the "JAGS" on the defense? A lot of them listed are his recruits.
