2025 Flip Watch 2.0 Fong "Mario Cristobal Has Been Relentless and Miami is Going to be Swinging a Big Spatula" (2025 Version)

Let’s say UM gets an elite transfer QB like Mateer, who has 2 yrs of eligibility. Compare that to landing a top QB recruit out of HS, giving him a RS his freshman year and starting him next year. If he is the goods, he is the QB for 2 years before going NFL. Either way you get qb production for only 2 years. Difference is with Mateer, you know with 100% certainty what you are going to get. With even the most coveted QB out of HS, you might get DJ Ugalelei.

I won’t get too bent out of shape for the recruiting class until the roster for next year is finalized. Could get a bunch of players with multiple years of eligibility in the portal. Let’s say Miami doesn’t get a top WR in the class but spends money in the portal and gets Jeremiah Smith- was the class a failure?

I haven’t watched much of Mateer but that’s gotta be 10-15 posts I’ve seen you talk about him and honestly that’s good enough for me

Go get him

Larry was one bad call away from being a two time natty winning coach. The fact that he didn't really do anything after Miami tells you everything you need to know. He was a token coach.
This is the bedrock example of never letting players pick the coach or hiring a coach to save a recruiting class.

Remember our players wanted Manny after Mark right. That turned out well. I am of the belief that a school the pedigree of Miami should never have a first time coach again if the administration is invested in athletics.

Agreed...college kids are immature and emotional, ADs need to be cold and calculated

Mateer over a top QB Hs recruit all day long

Dont ever want to be playing a true freshman QB

Too much growing pains at that position

How did Clemson, LSU, UGA, Michigan win the nattys?

Anyone here think Dabo, Ed O, Kirby are all genius football minds that scheme it up? Or was it because they had:

Trevor Lawrence
Deshaun Watson
Joe Burrow
Jamaar Chase
Jordan Jefferson
Christian Wilkens
Dexter Lawrence
Brock Bowers
Nkobe Dean
Jalen Carter
Nolan Smith
Travon Walker
Jordan Davis
George Pickens
Tyson Campbell
Travis Etienne
A.J. Terrell
Tee Higgins
J.J. McCarthy
Kris Jenkins
Mason Graham
Will Johnson

Talent means much more than Coaching to win at the highest level.
I will agree with you that a mediocre coach with top end talent is more likely to win it all than a top end coach with mediocre talent, but then I will counter that argument with Miami the last 20 years who has had more talent than the vast majority of our opponents but has still ended up with a very mediocre record. The reality is that you need both with talent being more important, particularly at the higher levels.

Also, your examples of head coaches... I think the head coach can get away with not being an X&Os guy much more so than the coordinator/position coaches.

Some moron tried saying it was 80% coaching, 20% players

🤣🤣🤣🤣

I get a kick out of folks that need either Viagra or Xanax before NSD.

The extremes are both on display
