Finally Admit Lanning > Mario

7 wins to 5 wins and we switched offesnive philosophies for no reason and then mario went back and self corrected back to what we have been running.

this is the problem. youre justifying losing to MTSU bc "Talent" but that same talent was good enough for 2 more wins the year before. nah, its ****** coaching. its been ****** coaching forever now.

also, if youre not paying attention, THIS roster is *** too and were in year 4 now.
I just have the same take DJ Williams had. If you playing man and the player runs a go and we can’t create pressure you in trouble, they one a lot of their one on one matchups but I was ok with that with the way the roster was. It wasn’t some omg it’s impossible that this is happening moment for me, it was highly possible when I saw them on the field together. Maybe not before the game but when I saw the actual same players on the same field I said this could be trouble. LOS was weak

If Mario is as bad as some in this thread think, then he wouldn't have won at Oregon and he did. So, the logical conclusion then is that it's easier to win at Oregon than Miami, which also means that Lanning probably isn't as good as his 35-6 record suggests, and Lanning would likely suck if he were here. So, the final conclusion is that whether you love or hate Mario, join CanesConnection because we can all agree that more money makes it easier for Mario to do his job.

he took over a 4-8 team in Oregon and went 35-13, won 2 pac 12 titles, national recruiter of the year and pac 12 coach of the year.
That's misleading. Every time Mario says "we" took over a 4-8 team he means Willie Taggart took over. From Mario's perspective he continued Taggarts success.

I'm not disparaging the solid job to did at Oregon. I just think it should stand on its own merits rather than someone else's for the sake of PR.

Very selective and completely ignores my original point which was the state of the program when they took over.
Mario followed Helfrich (never coached again) and Taggart (😂) and the program was 20-18 the previous 3 seasons.
Mario rebuilt the program, majorly upgraded recruiting, won 2 P12s , a Rose Bowl and beat OSU in the Shoe his last season without the aid of the best NIL and without unfettered college FA.
Lanning then took that over, didn’t win a P12 in 2 seasons where he had a 1st round QB and a big talent advantage over every single team he played not named UGA.
Now in his 3rd year he did win the B10 and deserves credit for a great year.
But your “point” is completely missing context and ignores the state of the program. See Lincoln Riley at OU vs USC.
Oregon wasn’t in that bad of shape. Helfrich had 1 bad season. Mario did improve recruiting from Helfrich & Taggart though. But prior to Mario, UO was plagued by bad defense and QB play. Vernon Adams was injured early in 2015 and Herbert missed like 4 games in 2017.

Yes he took over a 7-6 team that potentially wins more games if Herbert doesn’t miss like 4 straight due to injury.

So why not just say that instead of pretending that he built the team? Per your apt analysis that team is built for 11 legitimate wins in year one for Mario. With pointless assertions like the 4-8 mess it leaves him open to being a liar by building himself up to be what he is not.

He fielded some good teams at Oregon and there's plenty of credit for him to have.

I totally agree with you. I was surprised people actually said he rebuilt a 4-8 team. He didn’t. You can’t just skip a year and credit him for it.

Yet somehow Helfrich never got another shot at a HC job despite being the “whiz kid” heir apparent to Chip? Meanwhile Frost is on his 3rd HC job? He crashed OU and that’s why he was fired. And Taggart followed🤣
I love how excuses are made to fit a narrative.

It’s b/c after UO, Helfrich came to my NFL team & absolutely sucked. I think he’s now in broadcasting or some ****, but yeah that NFL stint put an exclamation point on his career.

Mario is about as average as it gets.

The question is whether a 54 year old HC with 160 games under his belt can still improve.

I think he's improved slightly since he arrived here. I didn't think he'd allow us to be so pass-happy this season. But his hiring decisions have been underwhelming, his recruiting seems to be trending the wrong way, he already hired a game management analyst, and he's not suddenly going to become a schematic genius. I'm not sure where the growth comes from.

Maybe he'll figure out a way to avoid the late season collapses?

This board is hilarious because literally all you will see is kirby is a corch, day is a corch, lane is a corch etc..

The minute someone says something about our coach its oh you guys always slander our coaches and hype up everyone else's lmao we gotta pick one side man, just the one that’s favorable.

With outside coaches the context or excuses dont matter but when someone says something about ours everyone has a reason why its different. I swear if we held our own to the same standard as the guys people hate on, the conversations on here would be different

None of this has anything to do with Oregon not being in as bad of shape as some on here would like to add.
