Finally Admit Lanning > Mario

Recruit consecutive classes w/ +93 avg rating.
Make CFP.
Mario 35-13 4 years
Lanning 34-5 3 years
Very selective and completely ignores my original point which was the state of the program when they took over.
Mario followed Helfrich (never coached again) and Taggart (šŸ˜‚) and the program was 20-18 the previous 3 seasons.
Mario rebuilt the program, majorly upgraded recruiting, won 2 P12s , a Rose Bowl and beat OSU in the Shoe his last season without the aid of the best NIL and without unfettered college FA.
Lanning then took that over, didnā€™t win a P12 in 2 seasons where he had a 1st round QB and a big talent advantage over every single team he played not named UGA.
Now in his 3rd year he did win the B10 and deserves credit for a great year.
But your ā€œpointā€ is completely missing context and ignores the state of the program. See Lincoln Riley at OU vs USC.

That is a lot of doesn't matter. What has Mario done at Miami?

Mario has actually been strong in top 25 games, he even beat Louisville at FIU. his problem has been the stumbles against lesser teams.

his last year at Oregon, those Utah loses were more last of focus because after Manny lost to mich st, Mario and Miami begin talks.
we are not excusing his Utah losses away with that BS.

its funny. you guys are all so far up marios *** that you downplay the only guy on this site knows about Oregon on a personal level and more than anyone.

hes explained Oregon in detail plenty of times.

Your MDS is messing with your reading comprehension. I commented on @DMoney post which was specifically about Lannings advantages and added more context. You seem to keep ignoring the facts which are Lanning, while clearly a good coach, had every single advantage a coach taking over could ever possibly have and finally won something in his 3rd year only to get destroyed when it counted.
Thats my point.

He's gone .579. Manny went .583 and Richt went .667.

Lanning has gone .854 and Mario went .729 at Oregon.
in fairness, Mario inherited a mess at Oregon and a mess at UM. Richt was very good but golden left richt more talent than Manny left Mario.
Golden actually had a good eye for talent and could develop kids into NFL players.

And Mario had every advantage a UM coach could (and has) ever had and Manny still has a higher winning %. Works both ways

LOL this has been disproven by @Rellyrell before. He literally turned the roster immediately. he didnt want the majority of marios guys which goes back to his evals

Now let's add NIL into the mix.

I'm still of the opinion that Lanning is a better game day coach then Mario.

Removing FIU from his resume (& Iā€™m one of the rare fans that doesnā€™t count his time at FIU against him), Mario at the P5/P4 level is now 8-13 vs. top 25 teams. For context,

Lanning is now: 10-6 vs. AP Top 25
Day is now: 22-9 vs. AP Top 25

Hereā€™s why Lanning stands out: Lanning has coached 4 yrs less than Mario at the P5/4 level, yet heā€™s **** near faced the same amount of Top 25 opponents in that time frame. Yet, heā€™s a +4 while Mario is a -4. So if u couple that + Marioā€™s propensity of losing to inferior opponents, u have a recipe for not qualifying for the CFP.

Also, we need to stop the Utah beat UO due to a lack of focus narrative, b/c that narrative doesnā€™t work for UO losing to Stanford who went 3-9 that yr. Utah flat out beat the brakes off of Oregon b/c Utah was the better coached team. That Utah team had OSU on the ropes in the Rose Bowl, but coaching + talent was too much for Utah to sustain.

Itā€™s OK to admit right now Lanningā€™s trajectory is at a far exceeding pace. I would also like to debunk this theory that Lanning is only where heā€™s at b/c Mario left him in a better situation than Manny left Mario.

Hereā€™s the thing champ: Mario did leave Lanning in a good spot, but it wasnā€™t perfect. The majority of Marioā€™s players wind up shipping out w/ a good portion of them either not finding a home or dropped down to G5 levels. However, I donā€™t want to focus on that vs. this ā€œwoe is meā€ narrative that Mario came into this pitiful state of football.

Since 2004, The University of Miami has grossly underachieved going a combined 136-90 during this time frame b4 Mario took over, including 7-5 in 2021. Not great obviously, but explain the following:

Since 2004 ASU: 128-104 since 2004, & 3-9 before Kenny Dillingham took over w/ no prior HC experience gets them to the CFP in year 2. Did he not inherit a much worst program?

Mario left Lanning with a full cupboard.

As to championships? Well, Lanning got his *** kicked by Taint when it counted, not during the season when it didn't.

We can't tell about Miami and Cristobal, because we never got the chance to see Cam Ward and his team perform in a playoff environment. Given the horrific defense we saw this year, that's probably a good thing.

Losing to Taint in a shootout would not have been good for morale around here. And given the fact that they have Jeremiah Smith against our Pop Warner Secondary, I'm fairly certain that that's how things would have played out.
So let's play devil's advocate what would Miami have done against Oregon or the fcukeyes. They both would've made Miami assume the position.

this is not even remotely true about the cupboard being full. DL didnt want marios holdovers.

its amazing this board will go all out to defend Oregon's HC. lol
Weirdest **** ever. Theyā€™ll tell u they donā€™t give two ***** about lanning but i guarantee they were fuming when they saw that box score cause it weakens their argument when tryna hype him up to **** on Mario šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚
