Final Four vs. UCONN - 4/1 8:49pm EDT on CBS

I doubt he took many wide open looks in tourney also.. He is not Walker shooting.. He doesnt take alot from outside but he has decent percentage and if you leave him wide open he will take them.. If I can watch a few games of uconn on youtube and see that, it has to be on scouting report.. Omier didnt even move.. at the beginning of game.. I can take him getting beat inside but play some defense man, cant be scared of drawing fouls from open tip that you just give up everything.. I dont get it..

He even said in presser that he waited and no one came out on him.. smh
Like I said it was a gamble and it burned him. Those 2 threes didn’t win or lose the game. The other 15 points and 10 rebounds he had did a ton more for them. Scouting report or not, Miami couldn’t make anything. You aren’t gonna win a final four game shooting low 30%. That’s the story. Part was their D and part was just bad shooting.

Less turnovers, one more Off rebound, +5 from the FT line, same % from three, transition points were close, points off turnovers were close. The game came down to making shots. UCONN did, Miami didn’t.

The shooting was bad because we had very few open looks. A lot of that was because of poor ball movement, too many quick shots, and the inability to run on UConn.

UCONN was good on the defensive end, but Miami missed some bunnies they normally hit. We were off all night. Some of it was them, but a lot of it was just us. Not sure if we were tight, nervous, or what not. Don't mean to sound like a homer here, but our lack of offense was more us than them. Lost count of how many times we missed what are normally very makable layups, short j's, and uncontested opportunities at the rim. Our offensive game tonight was the same one we've seen all season. Again, hats off to UConn and the performance/gameplan they had tonight, but they didn't kill us. We shot ourselves in foot one too many times.

I think they (UCONN) shot well because they got a TON of great looks. An incredibly high percentage of their shots were good shots.

While we took some tough shots - and their defensive strategy and execution was excellent - I think we missed a lot of shots that we would usually make. Wooga was 0-7 and most of his shots were open or midrange pull-ups that he hits at a high %.

Bottom line, we couldn’t outscheme their size and athleticism… and their screening action and perimeter shooting really stretched (overwhelmed) our defense.

Tough end to an absolutely incredible, historic, amazing season.

With the right development/additions, I think there’s a crazy good shot at being back here next year.

Miami Basketball is FUN!!!

That's it right there.

We normally shoot 50% for the year.
Today we shot 32%.

If we even shoot 10% better, at 42%, that ties us up.

UConn has a great defense and played us great but it was also just a bad night of shooting..

What a magical run! I honestly thought this squad was playing well enough to beat anyone right now. UConn played a great game and they made the shots and grabbed the boards when they needed them most.

Their defense was legit and our offense couldn’t find an answer and we played into the teeth of their D all night long with the exception of a short run at the beginning of the first half.

Props to Coach L and the team for making it to The Final Four!! That was a lot of fun and the future sure is bright for Canes hoops!

I know it’s a long shot but if Wong decides to stick around and we add some size and depth to this squad, we could make another deep tourney run. But I think Wong is gone.

It’s going to be really hard to make another deep run if we have to replace both Miller and Wong. Let’s see what the portal has to offer. If Coach L brings in a stud or 2, we could be cooking with grease again.

Unfortunately theres no way to skip the experience line and UConn showed that it was just more ready to play on this stage than anybody else.

Their defense was tough.

You've got to hit your open easies when you're playing a defense that is contesting everything. Not having an inside offensive presence hurt us here. Nijel even missed a layup on a drive that he normally makes easily.

2022 - We lost to the eventual champions by 26
2023 - We lost to the eventual champions by 13
2024 -

Just paying our dues.

If Miami plays their A game or even their B game, tonight’s outcome could’ve been different. UConn played very well, but we missed an absolutely unheard of 14 layups. Some of that was their size and length, but we also blew a ton of good looks. Just seemed like we short armed so many shots tonight.

Also, Omier was completely outplayed by Sonogo. Amazing season, but this one will sting for a while, especially knowing a super beatable SDSU would’ve been our opponent for the title.
Omeir played not to foul... that is not going to work against a team with so many bigs. He played passively not committing to many rebounds afraid of fouling.
We have to get at least one 7 footer who is strong and move Omier to a stretch 4... the good thing is there are quite a few available with NIL being a factor

I told my son before the game that 2 things had to happen for UM to have a realistic chance.
1. Omier could mot be outplayed by Sanogo 25 and 10, to 10 and 7.
2. Wooga had to have a good game

Neither of these things happened. Sanogo proved that his is a lottery pick and Wooga had the worst game he’s played in at least half a season. Against the ACC that game is down to the wire. Against a really good UConn team the game was never in doubt.

sorry if already answered - but who on the current team is likely back next season?
I think outside of Miller, Wong, Walker rest should be back.
If we get some good portal contributors, couple of others might be encouraged to leave.
The portal changes everything... one can easily plug in key gaps as long as the supporting cast is good.

Dear Miami Hurricanes, Everywhere,

What a run!

Our Men’s Basketball team has had an exciting and historic ride all the way to the NCAA Final Four. The grit, determination, and resilience with which our student athletes have played this season, and during this tournament, are to be admired. We are proud of you.

This year, our Women’s Basketball team also made history by earning their way into the NCAA Elite Eight, and by all measures, we can proclaim that the University of Miami is now among the top schools for basketball in the nation.

Coach Larrañaga, Coach Meier, Dan Radakovich, and the entire athletics department: We are grateful for all the hard work, guidance, and encouragement you dedicate to helping these young people to succeed.

Thank you, especially, to the ’Canes community both near and far, whose support for our student athletes is unending. Your spirit can be felt from across the globe.

Please join me in congratulating our ’Canes Basketball teams.

It’s great to be a Miami Hurricane!
