Fernando Mendoza

He's good enough for Georgia, but not CIS commenters haha
Schools whiff on prospects all the time. If you’re a fan of Mendoza’s game that’s fine, but using this as a “gotcha” is ridiculous. Hope you’re pounding the table for Emmanuel Karnley at corner, too.

I'm so lost if that happens. So basically we've only went after Mateer and thats it so far

Just a reminder that very few, if any, people on this board know who we’ve “gone after”, but it’s a pretty safe bet the staff hasn’t just been sitting in a corner with their head in their knees once Mateer went off the board.

Need the OF version now

I think offering and pursuing your likely starting quarterback as a transfer is fundamentally different from recruiting a player at a position where you might have three others on the field at the same time.

It's a lot easier to take a flyer on a corner, safety, DL, OL, etc than it is to say "this is the guy that I want leading my team to another title."

Wasn't using this as a "gotcha" moment lmfao. You have people on here (like yourself) who thinks Mendoza is not good enough to play here. There is a reason you guys are commenters and not coaches at the college football level. Mendoza would immediately elevate our room and put us in a position to keep this thing rolling. There is a reason scouts across the country view him as an NFL player.

DawgsHQ has confirmed that Mendoza was in Athens over the weekend for an official visit after checking out Missouri and Indiana last week as well.

Along with where he visited, Miami and UCLA are in the mix. However, talking to multiple sources, this thing is likely to come down to Georgia and Indiana.
2 playoff teams there too, this staff is playing with fire don't know who they could be waiting for at QB

Mendoza just got 10x better without throwing a pass

There just aren’t that many great QBs running around. Bama wanted TVD, I was desperate for Howard after Ward declared for the draft.

I believe both Ewers and Beck are better than Mendoza, but I’m willing to concede 1. They played within a lot better offenses and 2. They are most likely off the table for Miami. TOC makes some compelling arguments for Mendoza. So why we’re not all in on the kid at this point makes no sense to me unless we have another guy up our sleeve. Just hope it’s a Tyrique Stevenson and not a Mikel Jones situation.

If Mario wants Mendoza, it's hard to believe he wouldn't come to Miami. But if UGA is guaranteeing a starting spot and Mario is saying you can come and compete with Emory, then that could be the difference and I'd be ok with that. I think he'd make us better but I'm not sure if he's worth a guaranteed starting spot.

It's not about the "school" whiffing, it's more about how MULTIPLE CFP teams are recruiting Mendoza, while the PlayStation All-Americans of CIS are swearing that Mendoza is terrible and inferior to a UM backup QB who has played in 1.95 games previously.

As for Karnley, can you show us the threads filled with anti-Karnley hatred? I don't think anyone on CIS has said that UM should pass on him.

A year from now, certain porsters will suddenly switch from "Mendoza is a statue" to "Why didn't Mario recruit Mendoza".

Happens every year.
A year from now some of you will also try to say you never said he was a statue and the next QB who can’t move unless he’s running in a straight line is totally different, same as Will Rogers.

I’m just not to the point of giving Indiana benefit of the doubt yet lol. Same thing happened when FSU wanted DJU last year, and big surprise, he still sucked. (I would take Mendoza over Emory, to be clear. It’s the allocation of funds that even makes it a discussion imo)

As for Karnley, you serious? I don’t remember which of the threads it was in since they’re all so **** off subject now lol, but yeah most people wanted zero to do with him. Especially when his PFF grades and some highlights of him getting cooked got posted.

I can’t say too much because I haven’t watched Beck, Ewers, or Mendoza enough. Mendoza eating us up does nothing for me and I watched him against Syracuse and I realize that was a bad game to watch him

I’m not sure if Dawson is sticking around or what happens there but if he’s angling for a head coaching job (or heck even staying here for a nice salary) then he’s not gonna wanna give up Cam Ward and do nothing about it. We will see how it shakes out I get the vibe like Cribby was saying (Mendoza but also a name not in yet) I think the absolute lowest odds scenario is Emory/Nickel/Judd

Even though Ward wasn’t an “eval” we’ve gone after a QB once in the portal and hit a grand slam. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt here until proven otherwise

I don't remember us playing any 3A teams. Back then we were 1A and played Ransom and Coral Shores who were 2A. I don't think we played Marathon in 94. Anyway I was a starting corner for PTS '92 and '93.

I was at Ransom from 94-97 (football seasons). We played Palmer every year and we were 3A. Our district was us, Coral Shores, Marathon and Archbishop Curley. We played 4A teams like Gulliver and Belen and 2A teams like Florida Christian, Dade Christian, Palmer and Westminster Christian and Miami Country Day.
