It's been trash. If you look at the whole picture now that July is over, we just keep landing one or two guys to stop the bleeding.

It was trash, then we landed Riley to make it respectable. It was trash again, then we landed Lightfoot for some badly-needed momentum. Not a peep from another blue-chip until Trader and Jones b2b signaled to many that hey, maybe we're going to get cooking now.

It's been nearly three weeks since then. Our class is now 17th, with Auburn, Arkansas, Texas probably going to jump us at some point. Our average recruit ranking is 89.40...that's 21st. We're out here spinning Albert Einstein at center as a highly-touted pickup because he camped well at NC St and Rutgers, and yet didn't receive offers from those schools.

You guys can defend what you want...this is unacceptable under Mario. I'm not even asking for Top 5 classes - but he was brought in to recruit better than any of our predecessors...at least Top 12, preferably Top 10 classes with ease. If his recruiting sucess is also tied to winning...then why did we hire him? What would make him better than Kiffin, Freeze, Stoops, Herman, etc.? Those guys could recruit like this with a U on their chest, lord knows Freeze is the hottest commodity right now.

Better win eight games, or we're in trouble.

Bruh I'm mad disappointed with the way this was set up as the goat DL class to now I'm like meh. Their some pieces but I wanted monsters on some space jam sh. I'll wait till the class and season is over to officially complain or celebrate.
There’s some dudes like Stewart, Stone etc that I didn’t think we really had a chance at

However Scott should have been ours. I don’t care if momma thought it was too far for him to go that’s why it’s called recruiting

And Franklin. Losing Franklin and Scott to me those are a few examples of guys that we need to be getting

I understand it is not as good as last year, but I firmly believe if we roll out a solid product on the field this season, you will see flips. It is August, not convinced this guy, or multiple others will stick where they are "committed" to currently. I think we can improve significantly, or on the flip side, another 5-7 season could destroy what we have......but I am not throwing in the towel yet.

As I’ve been saying about Scott and Stewart “ I never bought it “
@Cribby are you worried about our recruiting right now or do you think we’ll be fine and business will pick up?

I know you’ve said top 5 was unrealistic but are you staying with that 8-12 range or so?

Yea Beamer has been cooking on the low down there
to add to this:

if he starts to win 8+ games over the next few seasons; he's going to turn them into a PROBLEM. The DMV era is gonna love him off the strength of his dad (recruiting wise) and he's showing he can go head to head with Clemson for South Carolina kids.

Mack Brown not going to be at UNC forever either so they'll reach into North Carolina for top keeps as well....just keep an eye on them. Spurrier showed they can be a player if everything comes together

Getting late early on DL recruiting.

Lightfoot is a tremendous prospect, borderline legit 5-star IMO on the edge.

Jones is much of the same inside, an excellent prospect by any measure.

But we all know we need several more kids at these spots. Those 2 and Russell are not gonna cut it.

Of the kids we were significantly in play for:

Stewart now off the board
Scott off the board
Rudolph off the board, but maybe there is a potential for a flip?
Gilmore off the board
Kendall Jackson off the board
Jayden Jackson off the board

So who is still in play?

Kam Franklin is probably target #1 right now, but after 6 visits, still no commitment
Collin Simmons uncommitted, but unlikely
David Stone, looking like OU
TJ Lindsey, not coming
LJ McCray, unlikely as of now
Aydin Breland still in the realm of possibility

So unless we flip some kids, which of course is unlikely, our best case scenario is adding Franklin and Breland to the 3 we have committed? That would be fantastic, but that's adding probably both of the only kids we have a shot with. Unless I'm missing something?

There's a real chance we end up with Lightfoot, Jones, Russell, and then some lower ranked kids who were not priorities this summer. That's not good enough, IMO. And that's with holding onto the commits we do have, which we know Jones has at least somewhat flirted with Five Stars Undrafted.

Who am I missing? I'll judge the class when the ink dries, but as I said, getting real late real early here with what we all wanted to be one of the very best DL classes in the country.
You show a lot of guys off the board that haven't signed a thing. Still got some time until early and National signing day.

Not really shocked or bothered by this news. Didn't have this kid as an option in our class for almost two months. However, just goes into a common theme for this cycle. We are not getting it done. It's even worse that our HC's strong suit is supposed to be recruiting and we are struggle mightily there.

We all need to check our expectations. We went 5-7 while fielding the worst offense in school history and we expected to land this ridiculous DL class full of out of state kids.

Any coach can recruit when the team is winning. An elite recruiter is supposed to be able to recruit even with a losing record. If he can't, then why hire him instead of an elite game day coach? A[BGCOLOR=initial]t least with the latter you can reasonably believe he can take average talent and overachieve, then a good record leads to a good class and you have an upward slope. If a poor game day "recruiter coach" doesn't get the talent he needs early on, then it becomes a death spiral. Bad class leads to bad record leads to bad class. Fortunately NIL (or in the past, the bag game) is t[/BGCOLOR][BGCOLOR=initial]he one thing that can save a recruiter coach from the death spiral. But if that's supposed to save Cristobal, where is the money? [/BGCOLOR]

[BGCOLOR=initial]I expected Cristobal would easily land a top 8 class despite the record because UM was going to boost N[/BGCOLOR][BGCOLOR=initial]IL to pay the suck tax. The good class would lead to a good record, and then another good class, and put the coach on a upward trajectory. That also eventually lowers the price for players (no suck tax). It only has to be a 1 or 2 year NIL boost, and then it can go back down. It looks like Cristobal didn't get the NIL boost. I am a little surprised because I believed the people who said UM was going to invest heavily in football. If that's not happening, then UM is choosing death spiral (again). [/BGCOLOR]

This kid was a pro all recruiting process. Barely talked to the media and didn't hype anything. A true throwback. Glad it's not OSU and kinda cool seeing South Carolina create some real momentum in the SEC.
South carolina is my alma mater and I root for them any time as long as they aren't playing us so I might be biased but I have a hard time thinking of SEC schools Miami fans should prefer doing well. A good SCAR messes with UGA, UF, Clemson, UNC, TAMU and the other powers that be in that conference

#1 guy on our board and we lose to.....south carolina.

LGC

I expected him to commit to USCe the whole cycle. Beamer is a tremendous recruiter, the family has had a stranglehold on that area for a long time, and most importantly, the kid gets to stay relatively close to home and play in the best league in the country. There are many, many factors that play into recruiting. DO NOT sell short the one about where our kids get to play. This is the worst P5 league in the country, period. There are no debates. The SEC is bar none the best league in the country, period. There are no debates. If you wanna talk how annoying they are about it, how they ride the coattails of the upper echelon teams, etc...save it. I know all that. But they get the most kids drafted, period. When you play in that league, you play against more NFL players than any other league, period. It prepares you for the league better than any other conference does. For about a zillion reasons, we MUST get out of the ACC and join a real conference. These absolute top of the line alphas, they wanna play against the best. You don't do that rolling into Atlanta or Blacksburg or Charlottesville or Durham week after week after week.

Just making a point. Doesn't excuse anyone. It's Mario's job to sign elite classes, end of story. But don't sell teams like USCe short. Beamer knows what he's doing, and there is an attraction there for top ranked kids.

Because then you get Dan Mullen.

Its freaking USC EAST.. Its not like they have a track record of long time success, this is a top 5 player across the board so yea I get it..

They dont have a history of getting talent like that but this is a unique situation for them, Beamer doing work..

You do gotta keep in mind that historically SCAR has had a lack of support for football and has always been at a Disadvantage being independent and whatnot. Finally, when Spurrier was brought in, the jumped forward a bit and you saw what they could be. Today there are similar increases in support to push for FB success starting more recently similar to what we are seeing at Miami.

No reason they can't do what Clemson does. They are in a decent recruiting area, have alumni and bigtime donors, have spent a ton on facilities, a stadium that has a decent atmosphere despite it's ugly appearance, and a fanbase that still shows up after multiple losing seasons. Columbia might be a small city compared to Miami, but in the SC/NC/GA areas it is certainly one of the bigger areas around

Whats really disturbing:

You have an NFL Hall of Fame DL guru on your staff and guys would rather play with a consistent 7-5 or 8-4 SC team rather than visit this dumpster fire.
