I’ve always said a good season could make a few guys jump in late that would have a good impact on the class. Particularly SFLA kids. That’s needed to get to the 10-15 range imo. Thats why I say there’s tons of pressure on this season. We could win 10 games and we still wouldn’t have a single digit class but adding a few key guys by showing progress makes a difference.

It also doesn’t help the face of our NIL has been getting publicly destroyed this offseason by the media. I’m sure thats being used by other collectives / NIL’s. Even though he’s not as involved this go around. Kids are likely being told it’s fools gold and only a matter of time before the money stops. Imo it’s a perfect storm.

10000000%. If people don’t think the very first thing literally any and every opposing coach and fan brings up to anyone considering Miami is Ruiz, you’re out of your goddamned mind. It’s the reason I was so vocal on here that the assclown was a pulsating tumor and someone needed to shut him up. Now the staff has to spend immeasurable time and energy cleaning up his bull****, all which was so easily avoidable. Just shut the **** up. That’s literally it. Just stop running your mouth, and nobody even knows who this dude is/the demise of Lintwallet is background noise. Now we gotta assure every single kid our NIL efforts aren’t exactly what you said, fool’s gold. So frustrating.

I don't know why anyone would be surprised or freaking out over this one. It was always going to be an uphill battle as we don't typically get guys like this.

Yes, it sucks though that our DL recruiting is in the tank. We can offer money, but beyond that the recruits don't know a thing. They don't know the staff, how each unit will be used, or perform.

Hope the season works out and maybe there's a flip or three down the road. Gotta make this place exciting again when we've been anything but that.

Yeah, you’ve been up front as to expectations. I can see an 8-10 win season helping a little as you said, particularly 9-10. It just seems like a perfect storm of multiple bad things this cycle. It’s very weird.

Since LSU beat the **** out of us in the Peach Bowl in 2005, we have won more than 8 games four times.

For some context, many of the kids we’re recruiting right now were born that year.

So to me, it’s not really about low expectations. It’s about reality. If somehow we win 9, it’d be literally one of the handful of most successful seasons in Dylan Stewart’s lifetime.

You’re not wrong, it’s sad as ****. But it is what it is. The program has been in the morgue for a generation. Bringing it back to life is going to be a **** of a chore, full stop. Doing it in 2 years is probably not incredibly likely.
this makes me wish we got richt 5 years earlier than we did. we got 9 wins in year 1 of richt. 8 years of richt followed up with Mario should have been move.

makes sense.

id blame ruiz for his own mess. his company sucked and then he wanted to be a loud *** blow hard and it backfired as hes allegedly under criminal investigation. he was shady before and I guess it never left. not shocking considering hes a miami lawyer and ive. met a handful that are actually decent

the school to their credit pretty much told him to shut up and began to distance themselves so to speak but he became synonymous with miami athletics already so it was too late. it doesn't help that he gets the fanbase into a frenzy w his fake stadium **** that he clearly can't finance

Dmoney has been saying it too, but in Dmoney terms.

A lot of contingent language. “We can get these five stars, if we show it on the field” type of stuff. It an obvious thing to say about any program. Also, to me it sounded too detached from the chain of events actually unfolding.

I interpreted it as us essentially needing a miracle or a particularly overachieving season for it to happen.

Whatever. I’m gonna show up to the games regardless.

Again, most people preferred someone moving in silence but that wasn’t an option for any of us as the dude was writing the checks not us and getting us players and beating Bama and UGA and the gator for top recruits. So the price of that was the rest of it, hate it or not. That’s who held the purse strings. I’ll take the money and players every time.

The tone on this board, as respectfully and eloquently spoken on by @Rellyrell at the time was about moving in silence being better.

Others (you, CFL) were just spewing vitriol publicly at the guy on a Canes board doing the work of our enemies. That’s different. You guys went beyond telling him to tone it down.

He sucked, but fair point
I'm not gonna argue the point anymore as it's not relevant. You same guys won't say James Williams sucks when he blows coverage or blatantly misses tackles more than a blind, deaf, mute possibly could. You guys don't blame Kam for all the blown coverages he had. You guys just see a corner tugging along in the rearview mirror of a wide-open wr who walks into the end zone. Dj certainly wasn't perfect. Not even close. But he was blamed for far more than he should've been if y'all knew our coverages and assignments.

He sucked, but fair point
he improved at the end from where he was prior to. ATM was probably his best game. he always. looked the part so a team would take a shot. if he gets the right coaching, he could stick around. the point of it all was he and rique are NFL corners now (for now I guess bc rique is safe to make the cut but Ivey has to show out). we lost a ton of depth beyond that (unproven but depth no doubt) and some kids who could have helped had they stuck around. putting a lot hope into a UCF transfer and young kids. this is where losing a kid like cormani hurts imo.

Any chance you could list the non-weirdos that are currently College Head Coaches?

Shouldn't take you too long.

There are a lot of coaches and will take a lot of time to go through them all.

As an aside, [BGCOLOR=initial] I think it's interesting that after UGA fired Richt, they could have hired any coach in the country at the highest salary. They instead went with a relatively inexpensive coordinator. Smart was a top coordinator and had a reputation as an excellent recruiter at Bama. And he's got 2 rings in 6 years where Richt (who is basically a much better version of Cristobal) couldn't break through in 15+ years. Would be interested to see the thought process behind UGAs hire. Maybe we can learn something for the next time around. [/BGCOLOR]

It's been trash. If you look at the whole picture now that July is over, we just keep landing one or two guys to stop the bleeding.

It was trash, then we landed Riley to make it respectable. It was trash again, then we landed Lightfoot for some badly-needed momentum. Not a peep from another blue-chip until Trader and Jones b2b signaled to many that hey, maybe we're going to get cooking now.

It's been nearly three weeks since then. Our class is now 17th, with Auburn, Arkansas, Texas probably going to jump us at some point. Our average recruit ranking is 89.40...that's 21st. We're out here spinning Albert Einstein at center as a highly-touted pickup because he camped well at NC St and Rutgers, and yet didn't receive offers from those schools.

You guys can defend what you want...this is unacceptable under Mario. I'm not even asking for Top 5 classes - but he was brought in to recruit better than any of our predecessors...at least Top 12, preferably Top 10 classes with ease. If his recruiting sucess is also tied to winning...then why did we hire him? What would make him better than Kiffin, Freeze, Stoops, Herman, etc.? Those guys could recruit like this with a U on their chest, lord knows Freeze is the hottest commodity right now.

Better win eight games, or we're in trouble.
I feel your frustration my friend. I also expected to be inside to top 10 by the end of July. With that being said I think for Miami this year we will get some flips as the season goes on. I believe in my heart of hearts we win 8+ ( I predicted 9 wins) and when we do that will get us close to last years class. A lot of these too dudes are in wait and see mode with Miami. If we win they will come. Justly or unjustly that's how it will be with this program even if the rules dont quite apply to other programs.

This will be Cristobal's biggest season and he knows that. We stay healthy we will get the desired results. He will recruit the crap out of his targets during the season when a lot of college coaches put recruiting in the back burner. I think we will be in that 7-9 range when all it's said and done.

Smart to UGA is the OU version of Venables to OU. both elite DCs that can recruit and fwiw Smart went to UGA. either could have had any HC job in the country aside from the obvious but left for the perfect choices in their minds.

Let’s be fair, I spewed vitriol publicly at him on Twitter, too.

But telling him to tone it down didn’t work, clearly. And now we’re a laughingstock, again. Totally unavoidable and seen coming from a mile away.

Whatever, it is what it is and this isn’t a Ruiz thread. He’s just a piece of the issues that are a thorn in our side right now. But I agree with Cribby, there are several things pooling together at the moment and preventing this class from really taking off. One of them obviously being 5-7. But that can be somewhat rectified, or at least moved in a different direction, over 12 Saturdays in the not too distant future. It’s beyond imperative we don’t waste them.

I try to be a practical guy. Been around long enough to know stuff takes time. Things don’t happen overnight and I don’t like to use hyperbole.

That said I can’t remember a more important season on the field than this one coming up. Winning cures a lot of things and we gotta steady the ship.

We need people to buy into this program right now. We started it last year but gave back a lot of good will. There’s time but we can’t flop again.

Wheres your whale picture? That's why. These are absolute whales we are after. We've already landed 2. We likely lead for another in Franklin. And we still have the possibility of another in Breland, though that seems less likely than Franklin.

Seriously we landed 2 whales at the OLine last year, and Did work in the portal. Now I think EVERYONE is happy about the future of our Oline. Last 2 years we got great EDGE guys, and then this year we got a fring 5 star EDGE again, and are likely to land two fringe or actual 5star DTs. Yet people are seriously acting like that would make this DLine class considered a failure. It's a joke. If we land Franklin and just keep what we have on the DLine, you really have to have the bar set at literally the pinnacle to think this was a fail.

It is quite simple though. We gotta just win this year.
See why isn’t crazy homerism like this called trolling
He can’t be serious

Franklin will be a miss
Breyland will be a miss
A jones we’ll have to sweat out fsu till the end
Stack that with the massive 2 player haul the last two years and we’re cooking
