Precisely this. There's no way we're going to act like he didn't lobby himself for the position as soon as he knew Richt was on the hot seat.

We really want to push the narrative that admin just walked in and said the "job is yours"?

Regardless of the administration lack of diligence, he still sold himself for a job he wasn't ready for. It almost ruined his career. He saw 1st hand all of the issues that come with being HC here and still decided to say to himself " I can do it".

This is Mario dream job too and he could've easily had it before now but he knew the current state of affairs was career suicide and chose a lesser program with lower expectations to cut his teeth.

So Manny couldn't humble himself to do the same and now I'm supposed to be empathetic because he bit off more than he can chew and decided to add a few more years to the misery that is Cane football the last couple decades?

Come on playa. Don't do me like this!!!!!!!

No one forgot, most are just smart enough to understand that recruiting is different when you have NIL money available. I suspect if Diaz had the financial backing that Mario does, his recruiting would have been better.

As for his scheme, IMO I don't think the players were as big a problem as trying to be both HC and DC. Being HC and DC was too much for a first time HC learning on the job. He couldn't adequately game plan on D and do all the HC functions at the same time.

Dont get me wrong - Cristobal with NIL money would smoke Diaz with NIL money. 1 month ago I felt we were getting Diaz level coaching and recruiting but paying 3x more- but my, my, have the turntables turned. Now Cristobal is really proving why he's an upgrade and I'm glad we made the change.
