Dorsett runs 4.16

The times are obviously inflated, but I expect Dorsett to be one of the fastest players at the 2015 Combine.

We must be running on VT's track. Didn't DeAngelo Williams run like a 4.0 plat there? LOL

DeAngelo Hall, but yes. That being said, there was a Falcons - Steelers game a few years back where Hall and his 4.3 couldn't run down Hines Ward, and Hines only had one shoe on. Angles, instincts, head starts, they all factor in to game speed.

Everyone questioned Dukes break away speed in high school as well, then he posted the 4.45 at the Open and all questions went out the door. Honestly Dukes 40 doesn't even matter because he has the best vision for a RB I've seen since Gore

Duke's latest post

40 times are about acceleration and top speed. Anything over 40 meters is about strength and endurance to maintain that speed.

Duke accelerates immediately, which is about explosive burst. He gets to top speed quickly, and has good football speed. But he's "only" good because he is elite at acceleration, but average at long speed. It's not a knock on the kid, as I think he is special ... But as an objective observer, who coaches track sprinters, that what I see.

Dorsett has elite long speed, and has obviously improved his initial burst to an elite level. He'll test well at the Combine, and if he runs at his Pro Day, he'll likely do even better.

I think Coley and Herb are about equal ... Coley is just a smoother runner, which makes him look faster. Coley probably has a better stride, but Herb probably has a faster leg turn-over.

As for Howard's number ... He may have to stay another year just to test at a legit 4.5. And barring a Thorpe Award and/or Consensus All-American year from him, I hope he does come back for year 4.

He has been ran down a couple of times. Someone running a 4.3 is not getting ran down once they breakaway. Freshman year I would give him a 4.4. The extra weight made him lose that extra gear needed to turn those boosters.

When did Duke get run down? (besides the Carolina game)

And don't say the Savannah State game, cause he changed direction like 30 times during that kick return.

VTECH game in 2012....not many but that's one that rings out

Don't recall that one.

However, I do know that many people mistake being "run down" with a defender simply having an angle.

I know you said, "besides the Carolina game," but my man this illustrates perfectly his incredible acceleration and 30-40 yard speed…but he doesn't quite have that strength YET to keep pulling away. If Duke was timed at The Combine last year (cause we haven't seen him this year), I'd say he runs about a 4.45-4.48

OKAY THEY WAS EVEN AT THE 30, DUKE HAS HIM BY ABOUT 3 AT THE 40, THEN HE DOESNT GET CAUGHT TIL THE 10. FIRST 40 YARDS HE WASNT GETTING CAUGHT. I EVEN GIVE DUKE THE BENIFIT OF THE DOUBT HE NEVER GETS CAUGHT FROM BEHIND HE MIGHT HAVE LET UP WITH THE ENDZONE SO CLOSE

Don't care what the times were, I know speed when I see it run through and away from one of the ACC's best secondaries.......on a wet field. Effortlessly. Boy is smooth.

You can generally add a full second to any hand timed time you see, but I'll say this: Teams do not use the numbers from the Combine, they use their scouts' own hand-timed times. The Combine counts a rolling start, a movement with your hand, everything starts the clock.

Personally, I don't care about the 40 times anyway. I can see for myself on film if a guy is fast or not based on his play speed. It's when the numbers do not match up that I'll go back and double check what I think I see on film. Like if a guy runs a 4.7 and he looks fast on film, what am I missing? Am I overstating something? It works for vice versa as well.

Dorsett isn't fast, he's elite fast. Film fast. Timed fast. Hand held fast. Just really ******* fast.

Add a full second? I'm pretty sure you mean tenth of a second...
But I get what you are saying about game speed. I personally think they should run their 40s in their pads and from their positional stance. Same reason I like that Manziel did his pro day in his shoulder pads. I also think receivers (or any skill position) should do drills with their pads and helmet on
An example because Argentina won today is Messi. In a straight sprint without the ball he is not even close to the fastest. But if you make them dribble a ball while running he is top 5 in the world.

Easy dude. If you knew that easily I left out "tenth" no need to call anyone out.

Puts his left foot in the ground, sinks his hips, and it's absolutely, positively...OVER!!!!

The south florida athlete is a sight to behold.

The it factor burst happens at 0:08 on the 31 yd line. Elite.
