Well you used the most noticeable one yourself. Im not trying to everytime he breaks in open field someone ten yards away runs him down. Imo, a 4.3 beats some of the angles I have seen Duke get caught on.Dorsett ran a 6.8 in the 60M. 40 yards = 36 meters, or 60% of the distance. Not saying the time would be linear (he's probably faster in the last 20 of a 60M than the first 20 of a 40), but 60% of 6.8 seconds is 4.08. Under 4.2 is not outside the realm of possibility if he kills the start.
The time that surprises me would be Duke under 4.4 with that new weight. He's never been a burner.
I never understood the "Duke has never been a burner" comment... The guy may not be Chris Johnson or Jamal Charles but he always had great speed... As a freshman most of all his long runs came from outrunning his opponents on the outside... He is also extremely quick... I do agree it seemed like he lost a step last year... But I always saw him as a 4.4 type player...
Duke is fast at about 30-40 yards…he is above average at 50+ yards for a skill player, but certainly not elite. You saw in the high school all star game and you've seen it here. He does get caught from behind.
He has been ran down a couple of times. Someone running a 4.3 is not getting ran down once they breakaway. Freshman year I would give him a 4.4. The extra weight made him lose that extra gear needed to turn those boosters.
When did Duke get run down? (besides the Carolina game)
And don't say the Savannah State game, cause he changed direction like 30 times during that kick return.

And I have been saying his acceleration is elite, but his overall speed is pretty good. A 4.4 is nothing to be upset bout though.
The times are obviously inflated, but I expect Dorsett to be one of the fastest players at the 2015 Combine.
Lets look at past combines:
2014: Only 7 guys ran in the 4.3s. Dri Archer with a 4.28 was best. 4 CB, 2 WR, 1 RB
2013: Only 12 guys ran in the 4.3s. Marquise Goodwin with 4.27 was tops. 5 WR, 5 CB, 2 RB
2012: Only 7 guys ran in the 4.3s. Josh Robinson with 4.33 was tops. 5 WR, 2 CB
The times are obviously inflated, but I expect Dorsett to be one of the fastest players at the 2015 Combine.
You can generally add a full second to any hand timed time you see, but I'll say this: Teams do not use the numbers from the Combine, they use their scouts' own hand-timed times. The Combine counts a rolling start, a movement with your hand, everything starts the clock.
Personally, I don't care about the 40 times anyway. I can see for myself on film if a guy is fast or not based on his play speed. It's when the numbers do not match up that I'll go back and double check what I think I see on film. Like if a guy runs a 4.7 and he looks fast on film, what am I missing? Am I overstating something? It works for vice versa as well.
Dorsett isn't fast, he's elite fast. Film fast. Timed fast. Hand held fast. Just really ******* fast.

He's fast but not that fast. Wonder what the times were though for the rest of the guys.
The combine shows that we inflate our player's numbers a lot.
Orlando Franklin was like 6'8" when he was here.
Brandon Linder did like 40 reps on the bench. (did low 30's at the combine I believe)
Our 40 numbers are usually pretty close though.

VTECH game in 2012....not many but that's one that rings out
Don't recall that one.
However, I do know that many people mistake being "run down" with a defender simply having an angle.
I know you said, "besides the Carolina game," but my man this illustrates perfectly his incredible acceleration and 30-40 yard speed…but he doesn't quite have that strength YET to keep pulling away. If Duke was timed at The Combine last year (cause we haven't seen him this year), I'd say he runs about a 4.45-4.48

We missed him a lot last year because he is such a threat deep. I didn't like the spots we used him at times though but it's hard to ***** about getting a kid that fast the ball when you can. He just isn't much of a change direction guy, but Coley and Dorsett are gonna be ******* problems deep, and that should create lots of opportunities for the TEs and underneath stuff, if the QB can find it, it should be there.whats with all the doubting on Dorsette? he gets open allot, his speed and getting open was never a question. His catching needs some work but he is that deep speedy threat that the 4.3 .2 or .16 actually matter
This, 1000x, this.People always confuse "speed" and "acceleration" when discussing Duke Johnson.
I'd say Duke has elite acceleration and "decent" to "good" speed.
