Dmoney question.

They knew OU was likely. Mateer told people he didn’t want to follow in Cam’s footsteps.

Mateer is a really good player, so it’s a setback we couldn’t change his mind. But they haven’t put all their eggs in that basket.
They’re still set on landing a portal QB? Hoping the plan wasn’t mateer or roll with Emory

I posted this November 22 in the QB portal thread:

Biggest problem with Mateer is his OC is going to be a hot name this offseason for bigger programs looking for a new OC.

Unless the OC isn’t hired away until after the December portal window closes, I would put my money on Mateer going wherever his OC goes

Please tell me I’m not more plugged in than our coaches. Because I’m not plugged in at all. So if they didn’t know what I knew, to the point that it is a “major setback,” massive changes have to happen.
Sir the decision on who the portal QB for the 25 season was made 2 months earlier in September….and it wasn’t Mateer

Really hoping they have talked to Sawyer Robertson

I don't know why I'm surprised or hoped that it would be any different. Mario is an idiot and is incapable of making staff changes quickly. He's shown us this over and over at all of his stops. He claims that he cares about what's best for the university and yet consistently puts us behind the 8 ball with his insisting that his coaches find landing spots before letting them go. The only person/people that helps are those coaches. We just have to get used to it apparently and understand that he's not going to change on this.

He didn’t want to follow the footsteps of an Heisman finalist and a top 5 pick in the upcoming NFL draft, LMAO.

Not smart, hence why he will fit well in Norman.

Reality is we hired a coach that is a great recruiter. We knew CB was incredibly important and all year it was we needed to land one of hanks or pickett. Missed on both. Needed a qb. Pretty much all of them are off the board. Just like last year in the portal we needed cornerbacks. We got dyoni hill. This year We basically missed on all of the good ones.

So Lately our recruiter has been losing recruiting battles. Venables in particular seems to stuff him in a locker for all the too guys we want. So now we’ve got a recruiter that is struggling to recruit. And we know he’s not a good coach.

Hard not to be negative right now
People keep bringing up Pickett. Yes, he would have been great to have, but he is not an early starter. Most evaluations of him are about how he's a freak athlete who could potentially play multiple different positions but he is raw and needs development. He would not be a solution for next year anyway. Antoine is likely an earlier starter at QB than Pickett. Hanks is a legacy who isn't going anywhere but UF. We also got two other 4 star CBs on signing day.

We need ready to go, experienced CBs from the portal right now, and the portal is still open and we're apparently in communication with a number of them

Following someone else's footsteps is the best way to survive a minefield.

Mateer reminds me of the guy at work who does his own research and ends up with off brand versions of the good ones everyone else has, then when it turns to ****, he defends his logic.
