We’ve been in it for **** every elite recruit on the DL this year and made a lot of top threes , while being “ broke “.

What’s funny our DT recruiting was god awful last year too but y’all leave that out of the “ we were balling so hard last class “ debate.

Fact is this is the first time in forever we went full on big fish hunting for majority elite guys and we’re getting our asses kicked. That’s just how the game works sometimes. National recruiting for the most valuable position in CFB and only focusing on the elite is a hard battle. Especially when there’s only so many dancing bears on the planet .

I think we get some dudes before the class is finished but to get this thing going you need to show some life on game days.

Now everyone can get back to their temper tantrums.

Thank you. Most here don’t get it. Mauigoa and Wayne are from out west and had relationships with Mario going back years. Samson was a Massachusetts kid. Oh and it was the staff’s bump year.

We’re coming off a 5-7 season and trying to land kids that would be tough to pull even if we had gone 10-2 last year

I guess some remember him showing up to Miami and having the number 60 class in the country. Then in a couple months shooting us to 16. Then the next year having a top 7 class. I’m sure Mario would tell you he’s getting his *** kicked but I don’t get the constant crying and whining. Btw Mario has been blasted on this site for his first season and now recruiting. So spare me with the “ take the blame off Mario“ bs. Find me another coach being ripped like that after one season? Especially one at his alma mater. This fan base is a vocal minority. Talk all the **** but don’t go to games or give to the program.

I have no idea why anyone would pick above that line today.

Mario’s recruiting is in complete freefall without a parachute, and a thunderstorm is rolling in.

Thank god we have the season to look forward to.

I think it’s just hard to see how close we really are. Being in the top 3 doesn’t mean it was close if we are being used as a known NIL school (last year) to help boost kids bags at schools they want to go to etc. Not saying this has happened just that for me, I don’t always consider Top 3s to be the three leading schools necessarily.

That’s been my question to a few off the board. Are we just being used as the boogeyman to up deals elsewhere and we’re not even a legit player in these recruitments?

We actually can ban you from the recruiting board if that’s what you want. I don’t recommend it though.

If we were broke the kids wouldn’t have us in his top three.He also wouldn’t keep wasting his time coming back for 2,3,4 visits. DL is the most valuable group in Cfb. Only a few programs get the best guys. That’s just the price of playing in those waters. We struck out on all the big boy dt’s last year too but y’all forgot that. If you don’t have funds you don’t build your board with all the top guys and let it be known that’s who you’re after. The whole “we’re broke “ thing is a coping mechanism for not winning the battles as much as last year.

Most coaches have a bump class. What separates the good from elite is how they recruit after the honeymoon period.

“Find me another coach” who got his *** handed to him by MTSU, duke, Pitt, fsu etc

Why would fans want to go to games or give to this abomination of a program the last 20 years?

That's when it comes down to coaching and scheme. It's how Kansas State went 10-4 last year with only 4 4* on their team.

I do both. Last year was inexcusable but so were the past two decades. Unclear to me what is going on out there but my hope is that we figure out realignment, get a better understanding what it takes to win some of the more recent recruitments (would love to eat crow if some of these big timers flip to us) and then actually win this fall. It’s clear to me that at this point it’s going to be hard to crawl out of this hole the program has dug for themselves unless we show a pulse on the field this year
 
Just ask yourselves this question: Had we played merely competent football last year and finished 8-4, would we have landed at least one or two of these elite targets? The answer is yes, and it would completely change your perceptions of this class and Mario's recruiting.

Some of you can only handle single factor analysis, if we do not land an elite recruit, local or national, it's money, it's bags. No one is saying that isn't happening, but that's not the only reason kids aren't choosing UM. That might be the only reason they choose another school, but that's not our biggest issue.

The biggest issue is we've done absolutely nothing during these kids' lifetimes. The vast majority of the talented kids who have signed here have spent 3 or 4 years losing about half their games, and then had to go slug it out at the combine or workouts to get drafted at all. We did nothing last year to show we were in at least better hands, in fact we fired most of our staff.

Mario is a good enough recruiter to talk his way into the room, but he has to win some games here, too, he isn't a miracle worker.... and I say all this as the person who has been dreading this hire since he got the HC job at FIU.
