I agree with this wholeheartedly. You need BOTH the national elite kids and good evaluations. Nothing wrong at all with bringing your own recruits into the pipe from your network. But there's a reason we were/are going after nationally recognized recruits like Scott, Stone, Franklin, Breland, A Jones, J Jackson, McCray, et al. along with all the other top P5. They're really good football players. Hopefully our staff has also evaluated them athletically and mentally to conclude they're capable of playing at a high level, be leaders on and off the field and take care of business in school.
We're very thorough on evaluations now. Also national or not we simply want the best FOOTBALL PLAYERS anywhere. It's not about how they test out in all instances. We don't care about your viral clips of a one handed Moss in flag football. We want kids that excel at what they are being brought here to do. This Harvard kid potentially is the perfect example. The kids a center. Besides a QB a center is the most responsible person on offense for success PRE SNAP. You don't want some athletic physical freak of nature who just so happens to be a moron for those spots.

Yeah the one thing I’ve said about Mario from Day 1 is that guy is gonna get the time and resources to execute his plan his way. Probably the first coach in my time as a fan here that will get that luxury

I don’t know if his plan will mean championships or not but from evals, to scheme, up and down the board this will finally be a team and program that is on the same page

What ill say with Mario is he's gonna get us the talent that we need and the culture we need to become a factory again(just like Kirby has done with UGA)whether or not that translates into championships will come down our coordinators and development. Personally I feel this is a staff that is pretty well filled out. Where I believe we still have room to grow is continuing to fill out the support staff with quality individuals and trim some of the fat left behind. All of that by the way is lil Nicky's way (that he learned from Butch and refined)and what Kirby took with him to UGA and you'll notice both have proved out exactly what they can accomplish.

It took Kirby what, 5 years before he won the big one? And UGA was MUCH further along than the last 20 year disaster down here. The reasonable fans won't even think about judging where things are until the end of year 3. It's clear that MC still has tons of work to do to get it where he wants it. And guess what, the guy's not perfect (Gattis and Steele for example) so it won't be a hockey stick upward either.

While Steele in no way belongs in that assessment as a miss I get what you're saying and overall one hundred percent agree(besides Steele)

Lol everyone on that list that has a ring is a CEO type that is involved with a certain position.
Nope those guys have a certain offense or defense their OC or DC HAVE to run. They’re not just involved with a certain position although they’re the best coaches for the particular positions.

Fair enough. You know much more about how the day to day goes than we do but that defense was hard to watch last year. Maybe there were just a thousand things that went wrong over a season that caused the mess we saw. I'll take your word for it on Steele. As you said, you get my point though.

Everyone except Riley. Riley does everything on the offensive side of the ball with his teams. Day calls the offense but that is his particular script. No one else fits the mold he's saying.
I dont even count those two. They are suchave won ccessful, but the other guys on his list have won championships and they are the CEO types.

None of them have a certain offense that has won a championship. Saban and Smart and Dabo have all hired different types of offensive coordinators just within the last few years.

I hear you. And I don't have a problem with any of Mario's takes except Judd, tbh, because I think their eval capabilities are top notch.

But my primary point was that we still need to be going after top 50, top 100, top 250 kids because there's a strong correlation between those national recruits and Top P5 success. So the short list should include a high proportion of those kids, properly evaluated of course, to sift out the pyschos, criminals, undisciplined, morons and character weak.

Said another way, the class can't only have coach-hand-selected recruits in it like the Harvard kid, Minaya, Russell. I'd go so far as to say those types should be the significant minority of commits.

I'm pretty sure you agree with all that. So sorry if beating a dead horse here.

I'll even walk you through it. #1 linebacker unit it was a room left completely bare due to the ineptitude of our previous head coach & his inability to recruit competent linebackers(& last season their play as a unit was improved under previous years) #2 right back to our previous coach who recruited based on the needs of his system. His system required box safeties with length.

Now based on linebackers we moved the safeties as a whole closer to the line. Problem with that is when box safeties who don't have the coaching or the understanding of basic coverages outside of the previous scheme are now counted on to play on their heels as opposed to playing what's in front of them. That resulted in constant blown coverages and missed tackles. End result he still made a first team all American out of Kam and put Lt in position to become a first round pick if he follows up last season with another comparable season. Plenty of overall improvement out of the defense as a whole. But unfortunately the rest of the **** show of last season became an avalanche of ****ery and he became collateral damage.

I'm consistently astounded at how much I don't know about the game of football even though I've been a fan for 30+ years.

I'd assume even the most disgusted of fans would agree we are most certainly targeting the vast majority of top recruits. Does that then mean that's all we should want? So people here might not remember what led to Larry cokers demise is he did exactly that. All Coker went after was the top rated kids & he pushed away and did no due diligence on back up plans. When those top rated kids went elsewhere we simply filled the room with any options that eventually became available. While I agree on judd, the problem with him is people make the assumption we aren't after other qbs(top qbs) & he's supposed to be the class embassador. I know we feel he has a high upside but lord knows how long it will take to get there. Strongly doubt he ever takes a snap here & we are after several top qbs. But who knows how it plays out. The problem people are having now is they aren't content with the RESULTS that they SEE & they aren't content to simply put some trust into Mario about the one thing he has NEVER failed at. Everyone here talks about this class in past tense like they know the work being put in and the end results of what this class will look like. What I'd say to that is not many do... Patience is a virtue not granted to all. But should probably give it a try. Otherwise just stay miserable & get egg on your faces when it's all said and done. If the bar is constantly moving than atleast get good at the limbo.

Ummm we are…And also, I remember on the Lance Rofflers study…Wasn't OL the position that co-related least with HS ranking? And that's where a lot of lower ranked players are this year the OL
