Devonta Smith Last Night

4 high rated receivers going to a school/offense that passes to essentially 1 guy a year. The front running **** riding is a career killer for some

This recruitment looked to be over back in the summer, but is it? LSU has made a big move for Smith late in the fall, and with Ed Orgeron taking over at LSU and Matt Canada coming in as offensive coordinator, the Tigers have made a move.

Alabama could still be viewed as the favorite to land this five-star, but the coaching changes have led to a different recruiting strategy in Baton Rouge (La.) and this could be another battle between Alabama and LSU for a top prospect in the Boot State.

(Say what you want about Scout, but Chad Simmons is one of the best SEC recruiting writers in the country, he's not biased just calls it exactly as it is)

Truthfully, I don't know how anyone could call a leader in this race. From what I've seen on the internet, this kid looks like he's ready to leave the state of Louisiana. And Baton Rouge is not far from his hometown.....I mention that because:

The way McMath was talking in his interview about LSU it was so obvious that he is all LSU that I'd have to think the coaches are telling him they aren't confident with Smith. There's no way you can be that vocal and not expect to turn off the other teams

I agree Simmons is all right but dude just said LSU has made "a move" twice in the same sentence, and then opined with generalities. He doesn't know **** about Smith, and that's the same for everybody else. Kid's held his cards close to the vest. I think it's us and Bama, and we make a lot more sense on paper. But, alas, Bama is Bama.

Everyone's guessing on Smith, including Simmons, based on Orgeron being a great recruiter who hired an excellent OC and Baga being Baga. Rick shocks the world.

Once Les Miles started losing games in the beginning of the year I thought that a new coach would come in and show Smith the love he wanted. I still think he winds up at LSU.

fwiw, Smith is also keen on leaving his home state for college. There are a lot of negative influences around him and his family would not be opposed to him going out of state to a more secure environment.

Do you know this for a fact? That is true for 80% of major D1 recruits these days, and if that's the case, well, Miami is the victim of massive negative recruiting in that regard. It always has been.

I mean, are we really doing this to ourselves again? This looks like a Bama/LSU battle all the way and I just don't see the latter letting him slip away.

You guys remember our conversations on SEC country and top prospects.

Serious question - is anyone outside of the people on this board mentioning Miami as a real potential landing spot for Smith? All the talk I see is around Bama and LSU

If he goes to Bama we should be able to land him in about two years once he transfers.

He called Smith to Bama 2 months ago, this was an update on what he's previously written on him...

I saw it, El. But LSU hasn't recruited the kid until Ed O took over. It's not his fault, but at the same time it's the same situation we ran into with Jeudy. Previous staff didn't recruit him. And by the sounds of it, Smith doesn't seem like your typical Louisiana kid that dreams of putting on for the Tigers as he looks like he wants to get out of the state entirely.

Now, I also don't know if he's coming here. I'm just of the mindset that I don't know how people can come to a surefire conclusion that this is a Bama/LSU, Miami/LSU, or Miami/Bama battle as this kid hasn't really been open with his recruitment; rather he's been fairly quiet about it.
