Devonta Smith Last Night

This recruitment looked to be over back in the summer, but is it? LSU has made a big move for Smith late in the fall, and with Ed Orgeron taking over at LSU and Matt Canada coming in as offensive coordinator, the Tigers have made a move.

Alabama could still be viewed as the favorite to land this five-star, but the coaching changes have led to a different recruiting strategy in Baton Rouge (La.) and this could be another battle between Alabama and LSU for a top prospect in the Boot State.

(Say what you want about Scout, but Chad Simmons is one of the best SEC recruiting writers in the country, he's not biased just calls it exactly as it is)

Truthfully, I don't know how anyone could call a leader in this race. From what I've seen on the internet, this kid looks like he's ready to leave the state of Louisiana. And Baton Rouge is not far from his hometown.....I mention that because:

I saw it, El. But LSU hasn't recruited the kid until Ed O took over. It's not his fault, but at the same time it's the same situation we ran into with Jeudy. Previous staff didn't recruit him. And by the sounds of it, Smith doesn't seem like your typical Louisiana kid that dreams of putting on for the Tigers as he looks like he wants to get out of the state entirely.

Now, I also don't know if he's coming here. I'm just of the mindset that I don't know how people can come to a surefire conclusion that this is a Bama/LSU, Miami/LSU, or Miami/Bama battle as this kid hasn't really been open with his recruitment; rather he's been fairly quiet about it.
I've never argued that he was going to LSU, I've said Bama from the jump...

What the debate is who's in 2nd LSU or Miami... Every single recruiting writer who covers LSU or the SEC has Smith to Bama with LSU making a late push.

Meaning that Miami maybe has a chance but it's as slim as it was for Jeudy & Holloman... The only people that ever mention Miami in regards to Smith's recruitment is, well... Miami people lol

Unless its just location I don't get it. LSU and Bama are loaded at wr

"relationships"

He committed to Richt at UGA though that has to mean something

He did but I don't think that was the main reason he committed - he committed to his recruiters which were mclendon and the bagman from his hometown who is now at bama. Besides, Smith decommitted after those two guys got let go by UGA (a couple months after Richt was canned).

Serious question - is anyone outside of the people on this board mentioning Miami as a real potential landing spot for Smith? All the talk I see is around Bama and LSU

No, they pretty much think it's a bama-lsu battle.

Absolutely mind blowing that a team that averages 225 yards per game passing, returns their top 2 WRS is going to add Shavers, Jeudy, and Smith. And they got Trevon Diggs last year.

And we are striking out at WR.

They also lead or are at least in the top-2 for 2 4* wrs from the state of Alabama.

Henry Ruggs and Nico Collins are both highly rated wrs...

They're about to win their 5th NC in 8 years, all these kids want to be part of that.We all know half of them will be transfering the next couple years.

I really hope Saban drops dead from a massive myocardial infarction so the rest of football can get back to signing some top recruits.

Disclaimer: I'm not attacking you.

But what you just said, I don't know how people come to these conclusions when this kid doesn't even really float any other information out there. And yes, I'm not saying he's coming here. I also don't care if we come in 2nd or 3rd, I want to come in first. If he doesn't come here, then I don't care if we came in 8th where there were other schools that no one even know of that were in the thick of things.

Oh no worries fam... We're just discussing.

With Smith, he's done interviews with people over the last months...

While we may be used to people making up **** & just saying anything for clicks with Fermin, Shodell & the likes, but I don't see the same with writers from elsewhere.

Chad Simmons, Bill Embody & even Jimmy D, have all written & said that Bama leads for Smith, those 3 guys aren't making up stuff & pulling **** out of thin air.

Does that mean that Miami has no shot? No, not at all... In fact, I really hope they're all wrong & Richt pulls the upset on his OV in January.

I've only stated from the beginning of this whole thing that basically everyone who's covered his recruitment has him going to Bama.
Maybe they're wrong... Or maybe, they're not. Idk...

IMO our chances will come down to how the OV is

I think it comes down to how bad Bama wants him. A great OV is unlikely to defeat the machine that is Bama. The Rusty Pelican and a great opportunity to play at Miami can't defeat Saban da gawd.

We did it with Richards

Bad example, Richards was committed to Miami for a whole year & wanted to play for Miami.

Smith is only interested because of Richt.

Our only chance is to "guarantee" early PT......He said that's his top priority...If not....It's time to move on!

If Smith was in play we wouldn't be offering new WRs like we are.

Kid is going to Bama and the kids that don't play year one will be looking to transfer

I'm afraid, you're right dude. I pray that you're wrong, however.

Would love to have him, and for so many reasons his coming here makes sense, but I'm guessing he goes to Bama if no other reason than front running is so trendy. I think LSU is too late to this party to win him mover, but in recruiting you never know.

We got Haitian voodoo and santeria in the 305, why am I not seeing any chicken sacrifices to land these kids?

Black magic > bagmen

Don't be fooled when these kids say EPT will get them to sign, especially a skill position guy. Everyone recruiting them will promise it.

I don't know much about recruiting, or this player but the logical answer would be Miami If he wants EPT
