Derick Hunter

Hunter was on campus today. Basically said he's always loved the U, had to decommit because of grades but now he's back on track, Miami's back on top and he's as geeked about the U than he's ever been.

So we should expect an Fau commitment coming ?

Why hope Martin transfers? That makes zero sense. I hope he develops into a rotational player like Moten.

Even if we sign the max # of possible slots in the 2019 class (26-27 initial counters), we'll still be under 85 scholarships given 3-
first of all the max # of possible slots in 2019 is 28, not 26 or 27.
Secondly this isn't a 1 yr "plan". Martin straight up isn't ******* good. Neither is Bar Milo. Neither is Romeo Finley. All those guys I absolutely hope transfer out sooner than later. Sorry but we're at the point where every scholarship matters, and every guy that isn't good we keep around another season (who has no potential to develop into a starter) its an opportunity cost of a more talented player.
The benefit to him transfering is just the additional roster space. That is LITERALLY a benefit. Hes got exactly ZERO snaps last season, just like Terry McCray. At what point can we call a spade a spade?

4 guys leaving early.

There's literally zero benefit to him transfering

28 was the number for ‘18.
10 enrolled. Assuming the remaining 13 enroll and 2 GT, we are at 28 again. Sadly, this staff has been known to hand out scholarships to walkons. We also won’t know until September.

17 seniors, 82 on ships, we have room for 20 as of today. By September, that number should be close to 25. By NSD, we likely will have 2-5 NFL departures along with some transfers to get us to 27-30 spots for 28 or less counters.

if he is your 3rd or 4th best DT in the class that's fine but he cant be a guy you should count on contributing year 1.
I'll be fine with him as that as well as a 3 tech prospect. We have 2 ..1 shade/nose tackles committed in Brown and Daxon already. Sorrels, Hunter, Ingraham close out and we cooking. Just need 2 out that group

He'd be horrible to go get some food with. Could never make a decision

Curious to know which walkons you're talking about.

We have plenty of room. Kids will attrit. Some before the season, some after. The 25 man initial starter rule won't matter because of early entrants this (and prior) cycles. And the 85 man roster limit won't matter because we won't hit it. Richt will sign his usual class of 24-26 kids. If we get lucky, 27.

90s, are you counting the two GTs still expected to be here in June (Odenigbo and Boulware )? Just making sure. ... Also, while I agree we end up with more than 25 spots, I'm not sure how many counters are left in the 2018 class to backfill using early entries. I think we have at most 2-3 to get to 25 there, so max for 2019 would be 27-28 unless someone from the 2018 class doesn't show up this summer.

We probably won't hit the 85 limit, like you say. But I believe the 2018 class is close to 25, maybe a few spots left because we couldn't land those last 2-3 DL and DB targets. And you can't backfill counters into classes prior to 2018 with your Early Entrants, at least as far as I understand the rule.

I believe you are misunderstanding the rule. The '18 kids who enrolled in January mostly counted back, because we had the room (10+ spots, I think). The '18 initial counters who count to '18 is a much lower number.

Only a few of those kids counted back to 17 because 17 was a big class, too. The guy who tracks this carefully is DerekDohrman. I'll defer to him. But I'm pretty sure we can't count more than 3 to 2018 now, plus 25 to 2019, meaning we're maxed at 28. The only way we get more is if someone from 2018 never makes it to campus. Again, from my understanding, open spots from classes prior to 2018 and the 85 team cap are not relevant in this situation.

Walkons given ships:
Atkins at RB
Murray at TE

You have to track back to 2012. Every kid given a ship counts toward a class(except a walk-on given a ship after their 2nd year on the roster).

We will have no problem with the 85 spots. We will have a problem with landing 28 elite kids, Richt signing more than 26, and not having too much attrition.

Yes. I’d rather Miami stop taking GT kids until we have counters to play close to 85
