from @Cribby report, there seems to have been a gulf of disconnect/disagreement and animosity between what the DC wanted for the DL and what the DL coach wanted for the DL, which could explain how poorly the DL played. i, therefore, do not blame the DL coach for the DL's woes this year.

Yeah but I think apples and oranges here.

Jason Candle was (and still is) at Toledo and wanted out (based on reports) because of his desire to be HC and saw moving to higher level as OC as viable route

A Henry is already a DC @ Illinois in a power conference though they’re mid.

Again I’m not advocating for Henry, I’m just questioning that strategy you put forth that’s all.

Mario whiffed AND went cheap with Guidry and Chevis Jackson, they’re now paying out the *** for DB transfers

My point is, Mario needs to hire a legit top 10 DC and pay whatever it costs and get the F outa the way. If it works as planned it’ll be money well spent on multiple fronts

All this talk about “making a splash” and “adult in the room” for a guy that’s been a DC for 2 years at a mid P4 school.

If Mario was serious he’d hire a top notch DC ANNND hire Henry as the DB coach. Dude makes $725k a year. Pay him $1mm and get the DB room back on track

Who should Mario hire, someone like Steele? I think he should hire the younger super ambitious guy who has a great resume and great references.

I know that, but the impression I get is that the powers that be are trying to manage our expectations.*

We had a "management luncheon" on Friday and this phrase was repeatedly used by our sales team or "account managers", as they prefer to be called now. It was an issue because they were promising things we don't even do just to get the signature.

2023 (henry) - illinois is 83rd in scoring defense

2024 (henry) - illinois is 40th in scoring defense
