DC Candidates

So then what do you do with DNich who IS the Co-DC currently?

Literally couldn't imagine choosing a DC based on retaining a LB coach who had one of the worst unit performances on the team and just in general was probably one of the stupider units I've seen. Like our LBs looked like they never knew what the **** they were doing. And the rotation made the least sense of any position group.
He has recruited well. But I would under zero circumstance be considering Nicholsons role/feelings at all in my DC search. Taylor imo is different because I just don't think it honestly matters as much retaining a DLine coach as it does retaining a LB or DB coach for a new DC.

If the new DC likes Nicholson, sure that makes it easy, but thats not even something I'd consider when making the DC hire.

Has it been confirmed that banks does not want to work with certain folks or rather, he wants to bring in some of his guys? They are 2 very different issues.

And if that’s indeed the case, I can’t imagine there’s a sacred cow on this defensive staff - even Joe/JT. All units underperformed and coordinators typically bring in 1-2 of their guys on staff.
IDK, could be more that Banks has a guy or guys he really wants and there are already coaches in those positions that are non negotiable.

Dabo just doesn't make many changes. There is one other coach their boards believe will be let go and it isn't a defensive coach.

Yeap, I believe Brown also played his last two years at Ole Miss under Ed Orgeron, so that's
another connection to Mario.
Orgeron's DL coach at Ole Miss was Ryan Nielsen, and he was the DC for the Jax Jaguars'
staff that just got fired. I believe he was the DC, so there's another connection but I don't
follow NFL much, so I have no idea how he did at DC.

Mario needs his "hard-working" good recruiters to try and stack as much talent as be can bc hes a simpleton like Richt, and he knows the only way to win is to edge them out on talent.

He also makes decisions like he's a man with no one to answer to. Almost like he knows he's got job security for __ # of years, no matter what. Never any sense of urgency or pre-planning.

I think JT is the next DC and maybe they promote some "hard-working" analysts.

Really seems like legitimate people know that Mario is a "work harder, not smarter" kind of guy, and they avoid him.

absolutely not. he has zero experience to qualify even in pay as a Co-DC. put him in the analyst room again.
Agreed. Taylors line underwhelmed this year. I get the disconnect w/Guidry and that is prolly part of the reason, but results on the field still matter. He appears to be a good recruiter - could prolly replace DSmith with him and improve relations with recruits and their parents across the board! lol

So many assumptions about how Mario is going about the hiring process yet no
one knows a darn thing and assuming the worst.

With regards to titles, do you folks realize many programs have co-DC, co-OC, Assistant HC,
so many titles on their staffs. It doesn't necessarily mean DNic would lose his title.
I do realize that. But usually when those titles are assigned it’s with a full staff or you’re retaining and promoting. Having a Co-DC on staff while pursuing an actual DC to hire is unusual to me. Hopefully Co-DC is just an “on paper” title and he has little if any say in day to day defensive gameplans and preparation.
