DC Candidates

I sometimes wonder what the super rich donors think of Mario just ****ing money away doing horrendously dumb **** with their money.

I would 100% dictate exactly how my money could/would be spent if I was donating massive amounts of money to Mario/Miami.
99% don’t care. It’s like you and me dropping off **** at the Goodwill. We dont care what Goodwill does with it, we just want our receipt for taxes.

You said “If Josh gsttis [sic] hired his own staff I don't believe our offense would of all of a sudden been good”.

You don’t see it as a problem that Mario hired Gattis, Guidry and Steel and he’s trying to force staff from his previous failed coordinator on a prospective upper level DC hire? He had guys that didn’t mesh together previously when he forced them on coordinators.
No because I see it work every year with numerous teams in college football. The problem is he hired them in the first place NOT that he didn't let them hire their own staff. Gattis and Steele hiring their own staff wouldn't of changed anything we saw on the field in my opinion. I mean your looking at it now with our offense, there are no shannon dawson guys on this offensive staff and we were still successful this year

It’s fine , with some people it’s great and thumbs up if it’s positive but when I post negatives it’s nonsense. It’s all good. I’m not saying fire the guy but he does some silly as **** and then Miami throws money at it to make it go away. I guess we should be fortunate , he’s a big reason for the backing.
If he's gonna force position coaches on Coordinators he might as well make them CoDCs and let them pick the staff because either way what could possibly go wrong lol. I'm kidding but partially

You keep going back to Gattis and Steele or whoever hiring their own staff and how that wouldn’t have helped and you’re right. Because those guys sucked and they were hired by Mario and put with people they don’t mesh with too.

I’m good here dude. Nothing personal against you but I’ve got nothing more to add. I understand that you don’t get what I’m saying and I don’t get what you’re saying. 💁🏻‍♂️

Or you can’t get what I’m saying because Mario can never do wrong in your eyes. Two of three absolute abortions of staffs and a third that was just bad ( Steele) should be all the proof you should see something is off with hiring. Then the drama should be more. Most coaches don’t get the chance to fix two bad defensive staff hirings and one horrible offensive staff. Thank god for all the financial backing. Just pay for the mistake and move on.
Good points. Also need to consider that college and NFL franchises often tweak staffs, even successful programs. Miami isn’t the lone program cleaning up messes or upgrading. Ohio State brought in Chip Kelly and Penn State also upgraded OC. Georgia is likely tweaking staff.

My point is very rarely does a coordinator get to hire his own staff. Oklahoma just hired Ben Arbuckle who brought Mateer with him and how many coaches did he get to hire at Oklahoma? Zero ...i get what your saying but that still doesn't change the fact that coordinators hiring their own staff pretty much never happens on any level. If you don't understand that 🤷🏾‍♂️

Yes teams do clean up but legit programs don’t make three horrible coordinator hires in three years then have to fire them. That’s unheard of for any coach worth their salt. It’s almost hard to do. But that’s part of the deal when you have a CEO type that doesn’t have his hands on one side of the ball.

Every insider has been preaching about the need for an adult in the room. This is a 35 year old with two years of coordinator experience and one of them was terrible. He is not like some protege of a great defensive coach. This move would make NO sense.
aaron henry would be a weird and very underwhelming hire

he inherited literally one of the best defenses in the country and it's gotten significantly worse in most categories over the last two years

ryan walters left in December 2022 and henry was promoted to DC.. this is what it was:

were also 2nd in YPP defense in 2022

Henry era:

2023:

36th in ypp defense
83rd in scoring defense

2024:

60th in ypp defense
41st in scoring defense

if it was a bigger school than Illinois, he would have been fired... so why are we even considering him?
Agree that Mario needs an adult on that side of the ball that has shown multiple years of high level evaluation, development and coordinating a defense at the top level of football.

Just pointing out with the sample size that everyone has on Henry, everyone is assuming how high or low his ceiling can be.

Regarding the year to year, you generally will see this at a developmental program that doesn’t recruit at a high level. I believe the year he took over they lost three starters in the secondary. Not sure what else could’ve contributed, but you also see significant improvement going into his second year.

I would expect Mario to shoot higher, but we will see what the end results are.

The frustrating thing is that it’s not a money or resources thing, it’s a Mario problem

I do not trust him or whatever process he thinks he has to hire the right staff to get us to the CFP

He’s gonna continue to waste money and **** off the fanbase

Ok thats not my point, this whole conversation is on Mario allowing coordinators to hire their own staff. For the record while I do believe Mario's hiring here has been a problem i think Mario's biggest problem is his inability to build a culture in which players develope and thats going back to his days at oregon but thats a different conversation
Building a culture in which players develop STARTS with the HC and the coaches he surrounds himself with to develop those kids, bc Mario himself is not teaching anything but OL.

But you have to build a staff of guys who are willing to work together as a unit. He's been failing miserably at that very important piece. The amount of turmoil and turnover of this staff thus far in 3 years cannot be ignored.
