Muschamp fits the bill of the proven P4 DC that you want.

The problem with guys with proven track records at P4 schools is that they're already employed at P4 schools.

So we're gonna have to hire a washout (e.g. Muschamp), or steal a DC from perhaps a lower-tier P4 school that's looking for a pay raise and a higher-profile job. Somebody like Bill Young when we hired him in 2008, although that turned out to be a mess.

The search should start and end with Ryan Walters. Ryan Walters is an elite secondary coach, which just so happens to be the position we struggle at the most. He had great defenses at Illinois and coached up some elite talent.
