Yes, he was the DC is Seattle. Do you know how he did in Seattle while he was DC? His defense ranked bottom 5 in both passing and rushing defense in both 2022, and 2023.
So again, why should he be the DC for us again? If he didn’t go to UM, would you even know who he was?

Bruh 🤦🏾‍♂️. It’s so frustrating that people think like this. “But he was an NFL coordinator!!” So what? He sucked at it. He wouldn’t ever be brought up as a candidate if he didn’t go to UM. That is 10000% fact. Just like Dorsey, who has now been fired from both of his NFL OC jobs.

But he looks really good now with Carter Davis Sweat Smith Dean and Trotter up front 7.

Haven't looked at any of the data pertaining to Illinois defense since he been there but I know the Illini db's have been good last several years and having to coach in the B10 vs OSU, Michigan, and PSU with a talent disadvantage says a lot about his ability to coach. Nothing counts obviously until we close on a quality DC but I like the type of coaches we're targeting thus far.

If the DC and whoever they hire as position coaches (especially DB if they are a LB coach) gets our LBs and Safeties to have great tackling, pursuit/effort, and play smart and instinctually, then all you gotta do is just hit on talent at CB, EDGE, DT - which after this portal period I think we probably have all three of those. Thats kinda why I don't really mind the Pat Fitzgerald type of hire. Like Idk it just doesn't seem all that complicated to me. With the CBs we just brought in, IF our young DLine is ready to produce (and Bain returns to frosh form), then it's literally just all about getting our LB and Safety room to take a major step and get the best performances out of them possible.

This will allow us to compete for ACC championships, but take a look at DCs of the playoff teams. Not overly complicated systems but the strategy and tactics go beyond what mid-tier DCs do ....

Watching the NFL play musical chairs with the same dusty *** coaches every year reminds me of reading these boards when people bring up James Coley

Exactly.

What is the Hurtt fascination on this board? He’s done very little to improve the Eagles defense as that’s 99% Fangio…

His defense was the only reason why they were in the game vs PSU. Their offense left the defense hanging

Bummer. Interested to see the other names over the next couple of weeks. Feels like this hire is important enough where hopefully MC isn’t haggling over a couple hundred thousand dollars or which coaches the DC can hire.
