Martinez was a bust at his last gig, I doubt were going to bring him in. IMO the most realistic option is going to be someone that runs a 3-4. Golden seems wedded to the scheme, and realistically, we have been recruiting for that type of defense and teaching it for the last several years. If we scrap all that and bring in a whole new system, we are looking at a few years of adjustment. Im not as anti the 3-4 as others here seem to be. I would PREFER the 4-3, but if AG is **** bent on the 3-4 and weve put this much work and recruiting into it, then we might as well try to run it right.
Get the best DC out there that runs a 3-4, have Golden hand the whole thing over to them, open up the checkbook, lets get a REAL pro here. And let AG be the CEO of this team. I SUSPECT, part of the problem we have now, is that Golden is messing with the defense himself, and making it worse. Too many cooks in the kitchen. I dont see us getting Chizik, we dont have the money for that. And Leavitt is probably a pipe dream. Would be a great DC, but Donna is not going to bring someone like that in. I mean we just got out from under the NCAA mess and are going to technically be on probation. The last thing they want is a coach with anger management issues and someone that could bring bad press on the program. Id be very surprised if they went in that direction. Same thing with Ed Orgeron. Guy is a ticking timebomb, and he didnt exactly leave here on great terms the last time he was here.
