Flemingwould be solid. That UCF D always plays tough. Wouldn't mind someone from the Michigan State staff either...LB coach or something.

how about al harris? south florida guy, long career in the league, must be learning a ton as DB coach for the chiefs this year.

is he gonna pause his coaching career to watch his son play for south carolina or stay in the NFL so he has his saturdays free?

Really think NFL coaches have saturdays off during the season?

I would really like us to try and get Don Brown from Boston College he has a great defensive mind and blitz a lot and with the speed miami has it would give any offense nightmares and I think we can afford him

Lance Thompson at Alabama (has already been detailed)

Manny Diaz- has plenty of experience, was sucessfull everywhere (except texas). is from Miami and should be a good recruiter here. would be a philosophy change on defense. money may also be an issue here if other schools come looking

Travaris Robinson Secondary coach at Florida. has never been a coordinator so there would be a risk there. Florida runs a 4-3 under look like we do so he could keep Golden's philosophy while hopefully bringing some better results. Miami is his hometown and we know as a recruiter he would bring in the horses to be dominant even if he doesn't call great plays

Jim Fleming DC UCF- has been at UCF since 2011, been a DC 3x has plenty of experience, has also coached LB and Secondary. he's from the NY and Golden apparently likes those Northeasterners, they may even know each other. not sure how much of a plus he would be as a recruiter

Mike London UVA head coach-if he gets fired, was DL coach under Golden when Golden was DC at UVA, was also recruiting coordinator.

Uncle Luke-becuz he can't do any worse than Dorito

I don't even have the faith in Golden to make the correct decision of firing Doroito in the first place.

Everybody in here is ****ing in the wind.

Karl Dunbar would be an amazing hire, but I don't think we have the means to lure him. With the season the Jets D-line is having, he could get a call from an NFL team very soon.

Even if he doesn't have the coaching experience, the talent he'd bring in would trump his coaching shortcomings. I mean ****, if Shannon could field top defenses why can't Robinson?

He's been around one of the top defensive minds for years now (Muschamp) and has been part of a coaching staff for an elite defense.

I like Robinson.
Lack of DC experience worries me though, especially when the head man (Golden) is a former DC.
How much leeway/control would Robinson have as the UM DC?
One thing for sure, he is a rising star.

Tavares Robinson would definitely help with that fence were supposedly putting up in SFLA. The 4-3 under and 3-4 are interchangeable.

TRob and Coley would be unstoppable on the trail but that is an AWFUL lot of uncertainty at our two biggest positions outside of HC.

I would prefer not to go that route right now.

Can we afford to get an established name?

That's my thing. Sure, it would be nice to get a guy with a solid DC background, but can we afford that?

Robinson is making $300K right now. A $200-250K raise would be enough to lure him here. Also, he's been working around a defensive mind like Muschamp so he's bound to have picked up some things.

I would give my left nut for the CANES to get Bud Foster out of VT to be the CANES DCoordinator. Look what he does with ****** talent at VT. The CANES would have the top D forever with all of the SFlorida talent at Buds disposal. Pay that man whatever he wants to get him here!!!!!!!!!

Good question and you could be right. Not sure how the risk/reward plays out. For me, right now, I would just prefer someone with some pedigree though I know we still have to be mindful money wise. I think some would be surprised how attractive this DC job can be, especially with the talent set to come in. Maybe I am overplaying our hand though, I dont know.

it would be hard to get an established DC from a top conference. we would probably have to go a top program positional coach, a lower level DC. or someone of of work right now. possibly a NFL positional coach

Never happen but it would be awesome!

2011: Defensive Coordinator at UCLA (Neuheisel Fired - Lost Job)
2010: Holtz becomes new coach at USF so he loses his job and coaches in semi-pro.
2009: Defensive Coordinator at South Florida (Left Cincy to Join USF, Top 30 FBS defense)
2007-2008: Defensive Coordinator at Cincinnati (Moved with Kelly to Cincy, Top 30 FBS defense)
2006: Defensive Coordinator Central Michigan (Brian Kelly)

Joe Tresey - Youngstown State

Joe Tresey is good and he would be cheap, his annual contract at UCLA was for $250K and the cost of living in LA is way more expensive then Metro Miami.

He was ready to come to Miami once already to work for Randy Shannon, so you know Shannon wasn't paying top dollar if getting Mark Whipple at $300k was breaking the bank for Shannon's staff.

Tresey a surprise hire by UCLA | tresey, neuheisel, coach - Sports - The Orange County Register

In 1yr he has taken YSU from the 60th rush defense to the 4th rush defense in FCS. He also runs a 4/3 3/4 multiple front, but his is attacking. I don't think him wanting to coach DB's here would be an issue because we have a DB coach in waiting.
Joe Tresey Named Defensive Coordinator; Glenn Davis Added to Staff - Youngstown State

My money is on Tresey both from the economics of the deal an that he produces on the field immediately everywhere he has gone not to mention he wants to be a warm climate if possible. And defenses are predicated on getting turnovers, he even counts the ones in practice, and what is that old saying practice how you play. What a difference in the way he coaches from what we are hearing about current coaches.

Wow, some interesting names on that Youngstown staff, including Mark Mangino.
Looks like he lost some weight.
