DAY 3 PRACTICE THREAD

The other thing I'm scared about if Kaaya wins it, is that they'll put the leash on him and water down the offense.

And/or he'll get eaten alive by opposing defenses and traumatized to the level of KW (not comparing his abilities to that of KW)

Kyle Wright wasn't "traumatized," he just sucked. The guy started getting sacked uncontrollably from the second he stepped on the field, even when he had a good OL in front of him. He was pure garbage. If you're a mentally tough QB, facing some tough defenses as a freshman isn't going to scare you. It's going to make you better.

Good OL? Lulz. Wright showed balls of steel in the FSU game despite getting obliterated every series. That OL was pure garbage, as was each of his OCs.

If Kevin Olsen's name was Kevin Smith he would've been a 3 star recruit who signed with a mid major.

He's never really shown anything above average talent.

If Kaaya is the best QB, then Golden has to go with him. It's that simple

And then run whatever he's capable when he's out there.

No baby-sitting, here

i'm not crowning the dude yet like a lot of you guys, but there are 3 things that stand out from that 6 second clip. one, he sells the play action play better than Stemo did in 4 years here, he looks off the defense with a quick look to the left and then he throws the ball sharply with accuracy and with proper pace. he sure looks the part in those 6 seconds.
Dude there was no one rushing. Smh

I'm not scared of that. That has more to do with Kaaya than it does the circumstances that will surround him and judging from what I've seen of him from his recruitment to his time in Coral Gables, he seems to have a certain level of fortitude.

In short...he don't look like he scared

I agree...saying a QB gets traumatized is a hindsight thing...it's only brought up in regards to the ones that go on to fail.

Meanwhile...it's not like Johnny Manziel is the first human being to start and have success as a freshman and then go on to have a good career. The fact of the matter is you either have it or you don't....or you figure it out later. I don't buy the "so and so was ruined by early failure". He was ruined because he was simply never destined to be a good player.

The more I see of the kid the more I think he should start out of the gate. He stands tall in the pocket and actually looks off the guy he intends to throw to. That right there is already light years away from what we had in our last 3-4 quarterbacks.

I just think the staff needs to protect Kaaya as much as possible because he is going to be very very special.

Give him a year to master the playbook, mature physically, and work on his mechanics.

In the end, I truly believe it'll be worth holding off one year.

(Both Manziel and Jaimes were RS Freshmen)

I don't really recall any True Freshmen QBs starting and tearing it up.

If the comp between Kaaya and Heaps is close. You gotta go with Heaps and redshirt Kaaya

I guess you missed Wright's first few snaps in 2004. Berlin barely got sacked that year, yet Wright managed to get sacked like a madman when he was getting snaps in garbage time. The guy just had terrible pocket presence and that led to a lot of those sacks.

Not many QBs that get thrown to the wolves come out better on the other end. Happens in the NFL as well. I absolutely believe situations can help/ruin QBs. IMO we have to be careful with Kaaya, he is clearly the future of the program.

Very few true FR are ready and are successful game 1. I'm having trouble thinking of 1 off the top of my head. Baker Mayfield played pretty well last year for TTech but they didn't open up on the road vs a good team.

I don't think there's any redshirting Kaaya at this point. If Heaps is the starter, we are still gonna need a #2 guy if he struggles or gets injured. At the moment, Heaps and Kaaya appear to be the top 2.

Chad told the staff that he does not want to be more than 260. he seen what they did to chick, he not dumb.

Weight isn't the reason Chickillo isn't a quick-twitch rush end. His best qualities has always been his relentlessness and strength to set the edge. Chad Thomas has Chickillo's size, BUT the guy has a much quicker first-step off the line and is much more athletic coming off the edge.
Go back and watch chicks high School highlights. Dude was crazy fast.

There has got to be some examples but I thought that kid from Penn State looked great last year (Hackenburg?)... I only saw a couple of their games but he looked really good for a true freshman everytime I saw.

Yeah he was pretty good, very heralded coming out.

Ended year 59% 20 TDs 10 INTs.

They opened in NJ vs Syracuse

The best I can recall is Manning. It took him a few games before he started. If memory serves, he was forced into the role due to injury. And even he struggled that year, though he of course showed flashes of brilliance.
