Dawson sucks too

This. On the 3rd TD we have that outside run/sweep we haven’t seen all year with 6. Were rolling. 21 comes in next series and loses a yard. 6 yarder to 84 and then 11 drops it. Punt.

Next drive starts out with 25 yard pass. Cam scrambles for 2, Lyle runs for 2. Incomplete.

The offensive script was top rate. 3 TDs on 3 drives. Then he opens up his playbook and it looks like he just randomly pulls plays out. That and the personnel groupings leave me scratching my head. Martinez ran at will. You’re battling for a conference championship and playoff appearance so why not sit him for the 2nd and a good chunk of the 3rd. All they had to do was keep going with what worked. I missed where Syracuse sat Gadsden, and their two receivers for big parts of the game to try other stuff.

We were COOKING WITH GAS in first, and I wanted to see why 2nd we struggle so I was interested to see what we do, even later when it was clear game was too big for Bell they gambled season and kept playing him burning season to give participation.

That 2nd qtr we literally burn the season to get Lyle first half reps. Martinez was rolling and he only touched ball what 10 times running?!

He doesn’t need to be fired.

He did a good job.

I just don’t think anybody will be freaking out if he gets a HC job at a G5 school somewhere.

I thought Dawson was solid, but my one gripe was the lack of creativity in the run game.

I fully expect this offense to regress massively next year. Likely falling in the 30-50 range in terms of scoring offense. Even with a decent transfer QB.

But that obviously hasn’t happened yet. So no, you don’t fire the OC for the #1 scoring offense because you predict the offense will regress next year.

But I do wonder if he takes a G5 type role when one opens up figuring it may be his best shot at getting a HC gig. Didn’t seem like he was serious about Rice but if a mid level G5 role like Tulane opens up?

Agreed. He can be creative he just chooses not to. That might change next year. Yesterday when we were near red zone he had Fletcher lead block on a sweep for Martinez. No one touched Martinez for ten yards. We need more of that creativity.

Yep. Almost no perimeter runs all year.
 
Same scheme that turned TVD into trash. Cam just hid the crap play-calling, route trees, and run game. Hopefully he takes a HC job elsewhere and we can bring in somebody with creativity.
 
Again, fix the problem. Why play Brown when we needed a catch? Why was Lyle playing when Martinez was cooking? Why does George continue to cost the team with 15yard penalties without someone (player or coach) holding him accountable? Bell at LT vs speed isn’t the answer as of now so Rivers should have gotten 100% of the snaps at LT.

Dawson did just enough to get out of the way most games. He knows the game based upon the first drives. Much of the other success was despite him not due to his play calling.

Defense was much worse but Dawson absolutely should not get a pass. Name one game that you can say we were so lucky we had Dawson. How many were Cam bailed us out.

This should have been a historic offense. It was excellent.
Great players across the board. But there are 50 OC that could have done just as well. And at least 30 that would have done better.

Fire Dawson. If not next year we will regret it.

Fire the OC that had the number #1 offense and good luck getting ANYONE that's worth a **** to take the job.
Regardless of how you feel about Dawson that's just the reality.
If having the #1 offense gets you fired why would anyone take the risk to their career to work there?

Phantom Hold kicked us in the ****. Also our coaches can’t do math and didn’t run the ball enough against the third worst rushing defense in the conference
 
People laughing, play calling trash. I knew all year if we basically didn't push the issue on offense we would lose multiple games. I even knew when got stopped up 21-7 what was coming. I knew it.
