Pathetic that we took that gift from Wisconsin and wasted him all year. He was good enough to make a lot of plays there and win conference accolades, but he couldn't do a **** thing to help us in a position where we are so supposedly so bereft of talent.

Do the "we have no talent" guys see how stupid they are when we have a guy like Gilbert on the team, yet we can't get anything out of him?

Gilbert came out of retirement after having major surgery. I think our expectations for him were out of kilter (there's a big ******* surprise).

If he was ready to contribute in a big way all season then he would have.

STOP IT!!! Green > Gilbert ALL DAY! No question. Both on and off the field. Some of you guys have never been in a locker room at the collegiate level. Shayon has been a great leader for this squad. We all wish he possessed more talent but he's the best we have at this point. Get over it.

This kid was playing great at Wisconsin and then comes here and rides the bench? Our scheme isn't hard to pick up. Put a LB on the guy in the slot and then get gouged for 5-6 yds every carry. **** shame they wasted his last year of eligibility

He was coming off surgery for torn tendons in his foot. He had retired from the game of football. I agree that the scheme is trash, but it isn't because they refused to play Gilbert more.

But he said he then learned to “check my ego” and realized this “is Shayon Green’s team.”

Maybe his ego got in the way too much. Perhaps the mind was willing, but physically he was not 100pct back to Wisky form.

I respect Barry Jackson quite a bit but he makes a low level mistake in the column linked atop this thread. Jackson names the wrong favorite in the Duke/North Carolina game. The Tar Heels are -5.5, not Duke.

That's the type of gaffe that simplistic sportscasters often make, seeing a number and assuming the team receiving all the press and praise is the favorite. Weeks ago I was hoping Duke would be favored in that game but North Carolina's recent form has shoved their power rating way up. In fact, if we played at North Carolina right now we would be the underdog, in the range of +3. In October we were -9.5 when we played them.

But he said he then learned to “check my ego” and realized this “is Shayon Green’s team.”

Maybe his ego got in the way too much. Perhaps the mind was willing, but physically he was not 100pct back to Wisky form.

Perhaps he knows he should put comments out there like that and not speak his true feelings, or he will end up in the dog house. See Tracey Howard trying to stick up for Duhfrio as an example. He learned his lesson
